Chapter 11 Charles' Party

Audrey could not believe what her father was telling her currently. It appeared that she could no longer confide in him anymore. Ordinarily, she planned to spend time with her family, especially her father, before she moved abroad to start her new school, but it was currently seeming as if she would have to leave earlier than planned.

When Leopold Demp heard that Audrey was going to leave for abroad immediately, he had no objection to it. He was delighted with the decision.

''I heard that we can leave whenever we want, right?'' Leopold asked Audrey.

She nodded.

''Yes,'' Audrey replied.

''Okay. But we would attend Charles Baman's birthday party tomorrow night, right?'' Leopold asked again.

Charles Baman was Audrey's classmate in the former international school she was in.

He was the son of Jeremiah Baman. The CEO of the rival company to the Turnah family company in Bullen. Although the relationship between Peter Turnah and Charles Baman was not very good, the kids related pretty well with themselves. Charles had chased Audrey before, hinting at a romantic relationship, but Audrey rejected him. But that was not enough to make them fall out, and Charles continued to be friends with Audrey Turnah.

Thinking about it, Audrey knew that as soon as she left for her new school abroad, there would be hardly any time to see Charles again, so she decided to attend the party.

At dusk, a lot of young people were gathered in the lobby of the Baman family villa. The lights in the house shone so brightly that, one could get confused and think it was still daytime.

Charles was leaning at the edge of the white dining table, talking to a couple of his friends that were all stylishly dressed. He was in high spirits.

As soon as he sighted Audrey and Leopold from a distance, he dismissed his friends and started to approach them.

''Both of you are highly disrespectful. You switched schools to Bullen high, and did not tell me about it,'' Charles said.

Leopold scoffed.

''You are even behind in the recent news. Well, the latest news is that Audrey and I are going back to study abroad. We are no longer students of Bullen high,'' he said with his hands in his pocket.

Charles' eyes shone in disbelief.

''Are you kidding me? I have been working hard so that I would come and join you people at Bullen high. My dad just agreed to transfer schools for me, and you lot are already on your way out?'' He asked.

''Well, we have already booked our ticket, and in a week, we would fly to the United States,'' Leopold said with a cool shrug.

''A week?'' Charles yelped.
''What the hell is going on, Audrey?'' Charles suddenly turned towards her to ask.

''Are you expecting me to answer that question?'' Audrey replied.

''Of course, you don't need to explain anything that you don't want to. But it is a bit unfair to take Leopold with you to anywhere you are going to, and not me,'' Charles replied and scratched his head nervously.

''What are you talking about? Audrey is my sister. Who are you to her?'' Leopold asked. He picked up a nut on the table and threw it into his mouth.
''Tell me who you are, please. Why should she take you?'' He added.

Charles suddenly became furious and gripped Leopold's neck.

''You are getting overly excited, right?'' He asked Leopold furiously.

Leopold was taken aback, and he started to wriggle free from Charles' grip.

''Dude, don't you dare get excited,'' Leopold said to Charles as they both struggled with themselves.

''Okay, both of you beat it. Don't misbehave here. Please,'' Audrey said with a light smile, and both of them stopped fighting immediately.

The housekeeper soon came and whispered something into Charles' ear and left.

''My cousin just arrived from the outer state. I have to go and pick him up. I will catch up with you guys later,'' Charles announced.

Many of the guests at Charles' party were old classmates of the international school he used to be in with Audrey and Leopold. Audrey had no intention of socializing, so she sat at a corner on a sofa, sipping orange juice, and Leopold went to join her.

Both of them were chatting, when suddenly, there was commotion from another side of the lobby, and everyone hurried there to see what the problem was.

Because the place was jampacked with onlookers, Leopold had to rely on his height.

He climbed onto the sofa so that he could catch a glimpse of what the commotion was all about. And soon he saw it.

''What the hell is Elizabeth Coker doing here?'' He asked Audrey in surprise.

Audrey's eyes widened.

Indeed. What was Elizabeth Coker doing there?

Elizabeth had provoked someone called Mercy Cun.

Leopold hopped off the sofa.

''There is a good show to watch now,'' he announced.

Mercy Cun was also Audrey and Leopold's former classmate at the former international school. She was domineering and troublesome, to the extent that even Audrey tried her best to stay away from her.

It was not that Audrey was afraid of her, but she considered Mercy too annoying to deal with.

If Elizabeth looked for Mercy's trouble, then she would pay for it a hundred percent.

Audrey tried to pull Leopold away from the commotion, but it was too late.

''This soda I just poured on you is a small thing compared to what I will do to you if you don't stay away from Charles,'' Mercy glared at Elizabeth savagely and warned her.

Elizabeth was currently a mess. Her hair was wet and dripped with soda. Her white dress was stained with soda, and she just stood there at a loss, not daring to go close to Mercy or resist anything she said. Her eyes were red with anger and embarrassment.

Audrey made her way to Elizabeth and pulled her to a corner.

''Leopold, give her your coat,'' she said to Leopold.

Leopold understood Audrey's actions, but he was a little bit reluctant to give Elizabeth his coat.

''Audrey, my coat is very expensive,'' he replied.
