Chapter 17 You Don't Owe Me

In fact, a lot was going through Audrey Turnah's mind.

She was the sort of person that cherished her life so much and would not be close to any means of harm getting to her, if not she would not have given up her love for Jerry Dank just because she had a nightmare.

If not that it was Elizabeth Coker, Audrey would naturally have called her family driver to come and help the situation, but because she knew the relationship between Jerry Dank and Elizabeth Coker, and imagined that it could lead them to become husband and wife in the future, she hurried to help Elizabeth by herself.

Audrey reasoned it this way. If she always helped Elizabeth like this, in the future, when Jerry Dank became a prominent business mogul, he would have bias for the Turnah family because of this incident and more incidents that Audrey will display her love for Elizabeth. That way, he would not harm the Turnah family.

Of course Jerry Dank had better not find out about this ploy of hers.

Jerry Dank stared at Audrey without saying a word.

In Audrey's eyes, Jerry Dank's gaze carried a lot of scrutiny in it. It made her heart leap, feeling that he would stare at her like that and find out the little mischievous ploy she was brewing in her heart.

Eventually, Jerry Dank stopped looking at her and opted to continue walking to the police station. Audrey didn't know if it was her illusion, but she was looking at Jerry Dank starting to reduce his pace so that he can walk side by side with her.

The orange street light stretched the figures of the two of them long, the surroundings were very quiet, and the insects neighed in the grass in the green belt.

''Jerry, there's something I have always wanted to tell you for clarity's sake,'' Audrey suddenly said.

She hesitated for a moment, but then she mistered up courage to say her mind.

''You can totally forget about that confession I made to you earlier. Please just disregard it as if it never happened,'' Audrey Turnah said to Jerry Dank.

Then she lowered her head and continued to tell him.

''Since I was born, I have always being handed everything, and people have always followed me and have being at my beck and call. I guess I just wanted to feel what being rejected feels like. Now that I have experienced it, trust me when I tell you that I am over it. Forget about what I did,'' Audrey said to Jerry Dank.

Her words were euphemistic, but Audrey was sure that Jerry Dank understood what she was talking about. She didn't like him, she was just being curious and was naturally feeding her curiosity, thus she did what she did.

She dared not to look at Jerry Dank. Besides, she was sure that he didn't mind. She had said what she had wanted to say to him for a long time.

''My dad wants to help your mother because he met your father and he really wants both of them to be friends. And it's not a big deal for my family to have access to the best medical practitioners around, so you don't have to feel as if you owe me anything, let alone agree to study with me at the same school just because you are trying to thank my father. I am not my father, and I have nothing to do with his decisions,'' Audrey explained.

The key majors of each foreign school were different, and there was a big gap between universities and colleges, and between their majors.

She majored in medicine, and the school she applied for was relatively authoritative in the medical field, it was in the top twenty in the comprehensive ranking of international universities.

With Jerry Dank's ability, he could attend a better-ranked university like Harvard and Oxford.

Jerry Dank raised his eyes to look at Audrey carefully.

''I won't jeopardize my future all because I am grateful to someone,'' he replied with a gentle voice.

Audre heaved a sigh of relief.

''That's lovely to hear. I have been afraid that you would listen to my dad and attend the same school as myself,'' Audrey replied.

The soft street light illuminated her porcelain-white and beautiful face, her eyebrows and eyes were curved, her long black and curled eyelashes were fluttering, and there seemed to be stars shining in her eyes.

It was obvious that she was happy to be in a different school from Jerry Dank.

Jerry Dank didn't say anything. His eyes fell on the ground instead.

He saw their shadows under the light. Their shadows had overlapped each other and they were practically on top of themselves through their shadows. They were just discussing naturally, but their shadows had gone close to each other, and were now intertwined.

Jerry shifted away and created an obvious distance between them and their shadows.

When they arrived at the police station, a police man came over and led both of them to separate interrogation rooms.

By the time Audrey finished penning down her statement and stepped out of the room, Jerry Dank and Elizabeth Coker came out as well.

Even Marcus Coker, Elizabeth's father, and Henry Dank, Jerry's father, rushed over to the police station.

Marcus Coker hurried towards Elizabeth with a few intentional steps.

''Elizabeth, are you alright?'' He asked with concern.
''I heard that you had an accident, and all of us were scared to death. Are you okay?'' Marcus Coker asked nervously.

Elizabeth's eyes were red after crying intensely for a long time.

''Dad, the police man said that the drunk man was seriously injured. Will I go to jail?'' She asked her father, crying profusely.

Elizabeth smashed a flower pot on the man's head and he had lost a lot of blood before he got to the police station. He had to be rushed to the hospital on emergency, because of how much blood he had lost.
