Chapter 13 Eavesdropping
Audrey Turnah clearly remembered that Elizabeth Coker's father, Marcus Coker, had outrightly announced in front of her brother, that they wanted to do business with the Baman family.
Unknown to anyone that Marcus Coker, and the Baman family were distant relatives.
''So what is going on between you and mercy Cun?'' Leopold Demp asked, feeling a little bit gossipy.
''I have just been joking around with her. Who would have thought that she would be such a demon?'' Charles Baman replied.
Thinking of how he got attached to Mercy Cun, Charles Baman regretted every bit of it.
Two days ago, him and a couple of other school friends were playing a game. The lot fell on him to buy an outrageous number of roses for Mercy Cun. Charles was drunk, and before he knew what was going on, he had brought one thousand roses for her. Quickly, Mercy Cun broadcasted the news, and it was too late for Charles Baman to correct the supposed mistake he had done.
''Why do I even have to explain this to you?'' Charles Baman suddenly said when he realized that he had told Leopold Demp too much.
Leopold Demp sneered.
''Me and Audrey, we are not surprised to hear that you fell into a ditch as a result of drinking too much,'' he replied to Charles Baman.
Charles Baman instantly became angry.
''Shut up. You don't have to say what you don't know. I'm not that sort of person, and I have my principles,'' Charles Baman replied.
''Well, if you have eyes for her, then there is nothing wrong with that. But since you insist on it being a mistake as a result of a game, then...'' Leopold Demp said.
''Oh, come on! Spare me the chit chat. You have done worst,'' Charles Baman replied defiantly.
''You think you can be like me? Going through the eye of a needle, and coming out unharmed at the end. What were you thinking, playing that game?'' Leopold Demp asked Charles, and laughed at him with scorn.
''You really make me laugh. You think you can get away with what you did, all in the name of having drank too much...'' he added.
Audrey shook her head, got up, and left for the bathroom. She was not interested in listening to the two boys argue in front of her so intensely.
She was not so familiar with the Baman family villa, so she was only able to find the bathroom after walking around the house for a long time and searching for it.
When she came back, she happened to over hear a voice from a room beside the one she was in, talking about the Turnah family.
Audrey's heart quivered slightly. She tiptoed closer, so that she could listen to what was being said clearly. She listened through the crack of the door.
The two people having a conversation were Jeremiah Baman, Charles Baman's father, and Marcus Coker, Elizabeth Coker's father. They sat opposite each other, discussing.
''Mr. Baman, I am really sorry, but this is the situation on ground,'' Marcus Coker said to Jeremiah Baman.
Marcus Coker looked disappointed and ashamed as he spoke to Jeremiah Baman.
''Henry Dank is stubborn, and I cannot convince him to tow our line. But not to worry, because even if he doesn't do the business with you, he most definitely will not do it with the Turnah family,'' Marcus Coker said.
''But I heard that Peter Turnah helped Henry Dank to look for the best doctors out there to help operate on his wife for free,'' Jeremiah Baman said.
Jeremiah Baman had a smile on his face, but looking at his eyes, one could tell that he was gloomy.
''If Henry Dank's wife is eventually treated and she becomes healthy again, I am afraid that Henry Dank would have no choice than to do the business with Turnah,'' he added.
Marcus Coker shook his head.
''I have known Henry Dank for a very long time. Once he has made up his mind concerning something, he would never go back. Rest assured that you don't have anything to worry about. The business will not be done with Turnah,'' Marcus Coker said to Jeremiah Baman with assurance.
''Henry Dank is not interested in any third-party investment. All he is interested in is expanding his brand. So, believe me when I say that he would not do any business with Turnah,'' Marcus Coker said. He hated to sound this desperate to convince Jeremiah Baman, but he had to.
''Really? Then, I am hoping on Henry Dank to do the right thing. Right now I don't consider him a serious person,'' Jeremiah Baman said.
His eyes flashed a subtle smile.
''But, as long as he doesn't give the business to Turnah, then it would not be so bad,'' he added.
Audrey Turnah's heart was beating violently as she listened to this.
She didn't want to listen to such vile words anymore, so she left with her aching heart.
When she got to the living room, Charles Baman and some others came in too. Elizabeth Coker had changed her clothes and was now looking presentable.
''I have to leave. I have something else to take care of, so I will leave early'' Elizabeth announced with embarrassment.
''Okay. Do you want me to call your dad?'' Charles Baman immediately asked her. He didn't waste time.
''No. It's fine. I'll leave by myself and send him a message,'' Elizabeth replied.
Marcus Coker, Elizabeth's father, had told her that he had something important to discuss with Jeremiah Baman today, so Elizabeth didn't want to bother him.
''Okay then. I'll arrange for a driver to take you home in one of the cars,'' Charles Baman replied and started to head towards the housekeeper.
''I'll drop her off. It just happens that I am also headed out early,'' Audrey Turnah said.
''How about that?'' Leopold Demp and Charles Turnah said in unison. They were surprised at Audrey's decision.
