Chapter 18 He Is Not Involved

According to the police, if the drunk man died, or became incapacitated, Elizabeth's actions for defense would be considered to extreme, and she would most likely be held responsible.

''Of course not. You hit a bad guy, how can you be held responsible?'' Marcus Coker said and comforted his daughter with a loving hug.
''Don't worry, nothing is going to happen to you,'' he said.

On the other hand, Henry Dank was surprised to see Audrey Turnah.

''Why is Miss Audrey Turnah here?'' He asked.

Jerry Dank explained what had happened to his father, and Henry Dank was grateful that everything ended up fine between the kids.

''Fortunately, you have been of help to us today. In the future, Marcus and I will bring Elizabeth and Jerry to your doorstep to thank you in person,'' Henry Dank said with an appreciative smile on his face.

''Jerry, it's getting really late. You can send Miss Audrey back, so that Mr. Turnah does not become worried,'' Henry Dank spun around and said to his son.

Audrey Turnah replied hastily.

''No, no don't worry. The driver is outside waiting for me,'' she said.
How dare she allow Jerry Dank to deliver her back home? Of course not.

However, Audrey's refusal did not phase Jerry Dank.

He glanced at her lightly and then darted his eyes away from her solemnly.

''Let's go!'' He said to her with a gentle tone.

He escorted Audrey Turnah out of the police station, and watched her until she entered the car with her driver waiting for her in it.

''You had better go to the hospital and check that wound on your hand,'' Jerry Dank leaned in and said to Audrey Turnah when she entered the car.

Audrey was slightly startled, and then she thanked Jerry Dank.

She appeared to be a bit hesitant, and then she let go because she knew she had to say what she wanted to say by all means, if she was to secure her future.

''If Elizabeth needs any help, she can tell me so that I will ask my father to hire the best lawyers for her,'' Audrey said to Jerry Dank.

Jerry Dank nodded.

He stood at the side of the road and watched the car drive away, disappearing into the night, and then he turned back and went into the police station.

Marcus Coker was discussing with Henry Dank, and he appeared to be passionate about whatever the topic was.

''In this case, the Turnah's are behind the scenes...'' Marcus Coker was saying to Henry Dank.

Henry Dank appeared to be amused and taken aback by what Marcus Coker was saying. And he laughed lightly at Marcus Coker.

''Marcus, how is that possible?'' Henry Dank asked.

"Earlier today was Mr. Baman's son's birthday, and he specially invited me and Elizabeth to come over. I had not talked with Mr. Baman for a long time, and Peter Turnah called me and asked me how my injury was, and asked me not to drink too much,'' Marcus Coker said to Henry Dank.

Marcus Coker didn't believe that Peter Turnah was so kind.

"If something happened to Elizabeth, maybe it was Peter Turnah behind it. He was deliberately showing me his color!" Marcus Coker said to Henry Dank.

''This issue has nothing to do with the Turnah family,'' Henry Dank said with a deep voice.
''If the Turnah family actually intended to hurt Elizabeth, then Audrey would not have been there. Moreso she would not have been injured,'' he explained to Marcus Coker.

''Is Miss Audrey injured?'' Marcus asked Henry Dank.

He had been so concerned about his daughter, Elizabeth, he did not even have the time to look around him.

''The girls face is red and swollen and her palm is badly injured,'' Henry Dank replied.

Henry Dank looked at Marcus Coker very seriously.

"Marcus, you can't be so unfounded so as to doubt people," Henry Dank said emphatically.

''Dad, this was nothing but an accident. I assure you,'' Elizabeth came around and said to her father.

''The drunk man was strangling Audrey so much. If not that Jerry came around to save her, she would have been in a bad scenario,'' Elizabeth explained.

''Urgh! I was in such a hurry and I was confused. Peter Turnah's call confused me all over the place,'' Marcus Coker said and smacked his head with his palm.

How could he not have been suspicious when Peter Turnah happened to call just in time with when the horrible scenario was going on?

''It's likely just a wild coincidence. I think we should wait until the police are done investigating. We shouldn't make speculations because it is an intense crime we speak of here,'' Henry Dank warned Marcus Coker subtly.

''For now, we should handle Elizabeth's affairs first,'' Henry Dank added.

Audrey Turnah got back home very late. It was already after eleven o'clock at night when she arrived at her house. Her father, Peter Turnah was waiting for her anxiously in the living room.

Peter Turnah knew that Audrey went to Charles Baman's birthday party so he didn't scold her too much. He only felt that she was a little too late.

Audrey also didn't dare tell her father about her injury and the event that happened to her and Elizabeth. She let her long hair cover her injured forehead, and hid her injured hand behind her back.

In the morning, Audrey received a text message from as early as 5 AM.

The text message was abrupt and straight to the point.

''Elizabeth is fine!'' the message said.

Audrey looked at the number and she could identify it even though she had deleted it from her contacts list earlier. She could recite the number without reading it.

It was Jerry Dank's number.

Elizabeth Coker was lucky because even though the drunk man was seriously injured, it was not life threatening. So she was free to go about without expecting to be led to jail soon.
