#Chapter 19 - Audition
Sally told me that the success and buzz I created at the pageant led to two script offers. I was excited to hear that the pageant did pave the wave for not only two new roles for myself but also to build my fanbase. It had me thinking how big I could have been it I had never left the human world.
I asked Sally to explain the roles in getter detail, however she could only give me the premise and general idea of both roles. One was a female guest on a big hit series, Sally speculated that it could lead to a reoccurring role in the future. The other was a supporting actress role in a small budget movie.
I told them that I wanted to look over both scripts before making my decision. This was the first time I got a look at the full script for a film. Elijah had pulled some strings to get the full script in my hands.
He had given both to me in his office away from prying eyes. No one besides myself and Elijah knew about the full scripts, and I wanted to keep it that way. I did not even bother to ask if he told Sally if she knew.
He did tell me not to expect this every time. “Thank you so much for this.” I exclaimed my gratitude to the boss.
“You are welcome, Ava, just do not expect it for every part you play.” Elijah stated as I left out of his office.
When I was not attending acting or modeling classes I worked on the scripts in my free time. Whether I was in class or at home I focused on which script would be beneficial to me for my career. I did have a tendency to go overboard when I set my mind out.
But I had a clear inclination in my mind. Both features would be good for me as a starting role, but I wanted something that would not only pose as a challenge but also be entertaining for both me and the audience.
Today I was meeting with Elijah and Sally to go over my decision and moving forward with my choice. I wore a pantsuit that was also exactly like that pantsuit that I wore in the talent portion of the beauty competition, however the color was a cream with the camisole being white. I decided to go with black flats instead of heels, just incase modeling class went over in time like it did last week.
As I entered the elevator, I did one more check of myself in the mirror. My hair was pulled into a high ponytail, and I let my face be clear of any makeup. While this was a business meeting, I never felt the need to add product to my face; it did not seem necessary.
As I entered the meeting room, I saw that Elijah and Sally were already engaged in a conversation. I do not know why but I felt a little jealousy towards the moment of intimacy that they were sharing.
Focus Ava, the last thing you need is to get involved with their relationship. Whatever it is. Focus on your role and your career.
“Good morning, everyone.” I said as I entered the room. Neither of them jumped away from their positions. As I looked down at the paperwork, I could make out that it was outlining any possible debuts and contests that I could participate in or even judge.
I was jealous for nothing; I felt like a stupid teenager with a crush on her teacher.
“Hello Ava,” Elijah said as he motioned his hand for me to take a seat. I took a seat across from Sally to be able to see her face and Elijah’s in my peripheral.
Good morning, Ava, I trust you were able to go over the scripts at your leisure.” Sally asked.
“I have.” I said to both of them.
“That is good to hear. Sally and I were just talking about your dedication to everything that is put in front of you.” Elijah said. It almost sound like he was bragging about me like I was his pride and joy.
“Quite, now that everything has been reviewed I would like to know what you have decided on. Which role would you like to pursue?” Sally said wanting to get down to business.
“The small budget film is what I would like to cameo in. I feel that the potential there can do wonders for me.”
“I think that the guest appearance in the big hit series would be more compelling because of the great deal of exposure.”
I could tell that she was not happy with my choice. I also noticed that Elijah had stayed quiet through our discussion. It would be nice for him to interject and offer his opinion.
“While that is true, I think doing smaller budget films would be a good start.” I said countering Sally.
“Why?” Sally asked.
“I took all the time I needed to watch all the works of the writers of the big hit series and small budget movies. I felt that this screenwriter had a very solid foundation and that if this film was made, it might work very well.” I did the research on this, and I stayed firm on my choices. Even though there could be a chance to make future appearances in the series there was no certainty. Also, if it did happen, I did not want to be focused on the series to pass up movie roles or be type cast based on a series that I cameoed in.
I was confident in my decision, but I knew that Sally would disagree with me. Sally insisted that it was more prudent to do a cameo of a big hit. Our opinions were conflict ting one another and neither one of us would budge on the decision.
Suddenly Elijah cleared his throat and gained the attention of the room. For a moment I felt the tense dissipate as well.
“If I may give a thought.” Elijah said as he grabbed his glass of water. He then took a swig no doubt to give everyone a moment to clear out heads. “Both of you make very good notes of why the role would help boost Ava’s career over the other.
Sally, you are right this role could be good seeing as the series is already a hit with networks. But I also see Ava’s vision and would like to see were this film could take her.”
“What do you think, Mr. Elijah?” Sally said. I was too terrified to ask.
“Make the calls and go with Ava’s idea.” Elijah stated. “Tell the series that we may have a secondary to take the cameo slot.”
I was ecstatic to hear that we were going to go forward with my decision. I had to fight the urge to hug that man. He told me over and again that at the end of the day the company, Moon Entertainment made the final decision with their actors.
I was afraid that he would not give my idea a chance. I had also heard that Lily was happy about me giving up the role for the series. Apparently, she wanted to make a guest appearance on the hit show.
I kind of felt that she just wanted roles that I did not want out of spite. But I did not let the bother me. I read the script carefully and became completely immersed in the world of the character. I really enjoyed the complex, three-dimensional script.
Although, it didn't seem like the role was going to be a hit. A week after the role was cast, Sally told me that the film crew was broke.
