#Chapter 70: Defended by Her Mate
AVA
“Be my lover and the part is yours but if you refuse the role will immediately be given to others and you will be blocked from any other production in this industry.”
His words keep repeating in my head.
I needed to get away from him, I left the restaurant in a hurry as soon as Big Brother left. I did not want to have the displeasure of him confronting me outside the restaurant.
Before leaving my meeting with Big Brother I knew that I would have no choice but to agree to his demand. He had knowledge on me that I had been sure would be locked up for years to come. But in this industry I found that if you were high enough on the chain of command you could find just about anything on your next target.
He wanted me to give my body to him for a role. And even though I was going to say no to the bastard, he had backed me into a corner. He would make sure that I never worked as an actress again.
I honestly do not remember driving home. I felt numb to everything around me. I tried to keep everything together and not show my anguish in front of the children. As I opened the door I saw Elijah sitting down in the living room on the couch.
Elijah.
For a moment I was so receive to see him, that was until Big Brother’s words rang in my head again.
“Be my lover and the part is yours but if you refuse the role will immediately be given to others and you will be blocked from any other production in this industry.”
I closed my eyes almost forgetting that my mate could feel anything and everything that I was feeling. I had no doubt that he could feel my emotions in full throttle. Our mating bond was still fresh.
Mate, come to me.
Elijah was leaned against the count with a glass on whiskey in his hands. I could smell it as I entered the foyer, but there was another smell that hit my nose.
Blood and none of it belonged to him.
Elijah’s first three buttons on his shirt were unbutton. His sleeves to his white shirt were rolled up showing his tattoo and his watch. But what puzzled me the most was his tie had been not only loosen but it was hanging on his shoulders.
As he looked at me a chill of fear ran down my spine. I could feel his power engulf the room. This was the power of a very angry Alpha. My mate was pissed off.
‘You are home early,” I said trying to make conversation.
Elijah took a swig of whiskey. “I let the children stay with Melissa for the night in the pack lands.”
He held the glass in one hand and rested his chin with the other. He tsked as he looked at me. Holding my gaze.
“Sarah told me that you had a meeting this afternoon. With Bromski,” He growled.
Shit.
I looked down to see an unconscious man laying at my mate’s feet. I could see blood on his collar. There was a knot on the side of his head and blood dripping from the side of his face. Even though I could not see that man’s face I recognised that gaudy polka dot shoes.
I looked up to see that Elijah took another drink from his glass. His gaze had never left mine the entire time I looked at Big Brother.
“Why is he here,” I questioned my mate. I was generally scared for he man that was laying at Elijah’s feet.
“Imagine my surprise that you would still be up to your same dirty tricks, Gerald.” Elijah said as he pressed his black dress shoes on the man’s neck. “And with my mate nonetheless.”
“How did you,” I began to ask.
“I am your mate, the Alpha of our pack and I have been running a company in the entertainment industry for years. I know grimy bastards like Bromski try to get their hands on fresh talent.” he closed his eyes and brought the rest of the drink to his lips and drank.
I could not help but gulp at his actions. The protection that Elijah was showing to me had me wanting to run from him but at the same time let him have his way with me.
I had never felt Elijah’s power like this. Not when he found out that I was a wolf. Not when he fought against Jacob. That was when I realized that he had been holding back all this time.
He had been hiding his power from. He stood up and crossed over the unconscious man and made his way to me. As Elijah stalked closer I felt myself backing up against the wall and bracing myself for what ever would come my way. But there was nothing malicious about his touch; at least not towards me.
He brushed his hand across my collar bone where he place the mating mark. I let out a deep sigh as he bent down to kiss my neck. He readjusted him self and stared down at me.
“I called Bromski over for drinks so that we coud talk about him requesting a meeting with my mate and actress without consulting me. Grayson and I also got a unregistered IP trying to access old data from your career that I had stored as well as your criminal record.”
My eyes grew big at his words. “You saw.” I said as I slumped down. Elijah gripped my chin with his hand and tilted my head up.
“Ava, I didn’t need to read the file because I was there that night when it happened. You hid your scent using your mother’s magic and possibly dyed your hair.”
“I wore a wig that time,” I said. I could not stand the smell of chemicals when I was going through my transforming phase.
Elijah chuckled as he continued, “but when I saw the file again I knew what Bromski was looking for. I knew that he was going to try to pull a stunt like this.”
He looked down at the man that he had been beating before I had arrived.
“I will never allow anyone else, wolf or human, to hurt you and that I will make the miserable old prick compromise in his own way.”
I knew that it was Elijah’s job to protect the human hierarchy and oppose all violent and coercive acts of werewolves against humans. He was now breaking his oath and rank for me. And I could not lie I had mixed feelings.
“Elijah, if you were there then you know that this is the third time that I had acted against laws and harmed someone. You cannot keep looking the other way like this.” I said.
Elijah looked at me and shrugged.
“First time you attacked a human it was ruled self defense. That was a ruling handed out by the Alpha at the time, whom was my father. The second time you did not attack a human, I found out that you were a wolf hiding here.”
He sat down on the love seat and pulled me into his lap. He took my hair out of heh bun and brushed my hair out of my face.
“And the last time you transformed you were answering a challenge to a she wolf that wanted to harm you and the children. If I bring these charges before the council they would be thrown out.”
“What about him,” I gestured to Big Brother laying on the floor. However looking at him now and comparing him to my mate his might as well have been someone’s Little Brother. He could intimidate me and other women in the industry but will men like Elijah even human men, I doubt this wold continue on.
“Well while you get some sleep and rest for you next audition. I am going met up with Grayson and dump him somewhere. And when he comes to he is going to have a friendly reminder of not to touch what is mine.”
All the fear and anxiety had left my body. Especially when I saw Elijah sling Gerald across his shoulders and carry him out of our house. That fear was replaced by joy and anxiousness, because I was going to be able to audition for the role. I was going to get the chance to be the potential Queen.
I made my way upstairs and began to get ready for bed. I slept so peacefully that I had almost forgotten that there was blood on the floor in the living room.
