#Chapter 40: Invasion of Privacy

Elijah’s POV
Ever since the breaches on both of my lands I have had the pack on high alert. I could not afford to be careless. There was an enemy that was looking for a weak spot in my authority.
The thought made my wolf growl and snarl in my mind. Neptune was conveying his thoughts and feelings about endangering the pack. I kept him at bay ensuring that I could handle whatever was coming after my pack.
At my requests, Grayson has been giving me daily updates to discuss the status of the grounds. We have agreed that he and the other members of the pack are to alert me immediately if there is any type of disturbance.
After the chaos that took place around my home in the human world I started to become a handyman fixing and repairing everything that was given a patch job. Connor had practically destroyed the head board in my bedroom. It was replaced and tossed out today.
The door frame and door that he and Eyolf broke down was made into firewood and replaced with a stronger wooden door. As I installed the solid frame and door, I doubt my wolf could break it down without walking away from an injury.
Not that I would try.
I had the door to Connor and Eyolf reinforced and put with an access code. I could not take any chance that whatever had happened to my hounds happen again.
I was waiting impatiently on the samples that I sent back home with Grayson and the sample vials that I had given to Martinez. Hopefully I will hear something back by the end of the day.
I would be out of the office until later that evening and to be frank I was not in the mood to deal with the qualms of mortals at the moment.
Ava had left when the sun rose to avoid talking to me, but with her staying here for the time being I was not going to pester her. She needed time to adjust and sort of things.
Later that day Dr. Martinez contacted me with the results of the samples I had delivered to him.
“So what did you find, Martinez?” I said in the speaker part of my phone.
“Well your suspicions were correct, Alpha. Both dogs were drugged.” Martinez said over the phone.
“What were they drugged with, my friend?” I asked. I could feel myself tremble with rage.
“Both Connor and Eyolf were injected with a neurotoxin designed to send them into a berserk stage similar to that of rabid dogs. The dosage that they were given was slow acting that worked its way into their bloodstream. But looking at the drug it dissipates in the body after 24 hours. So the hounds should be fine now.”
I could not believe what I was hearing. My dogs were drugged. Someone had broken into my home and attacked my dogs. That person was the cause of Ava getting hurt as well.
After the conversation with Martinez I hired a crew to set up a surveillance system and security cameras around the property. I never believed in coincidences not since I became Alpha of my pack. The timing of everything was too convenient.
The perimeter of the pack’s lands were infiltrated leaving no trace evidence of breach. And while I was gone to look into said breach, someone broke into my home and drugged my dogs with a toxic made to make them attack me as soon as I got home.
I made my way to the company office when I received a phone call. Looking at the caller id I saw that it was Grayson.
“What do you have to report, Beta?” I asked. With everything going on I could not find a joking matter with the jokester I dubbed my Beta. For the past few days since the breach he had been on high alert.
“Well I have news to report, but to be honest it is not something I can share over the phone.”
“Why is that? Is everything alright with the pack?” I said more eagerly than usual.
“The pack and everyone here is fine. I just think you would want to look at the matter with your own eyes, sir.” Grayson said.
I knew this was serious because Grayson hardly used chain of command towards me or even manners. So for him to call me “sir” I had to see this matter with my own view.
“I will be there before the end of the week.”
“Looking forward to it, sir.” Grayson said before hanging up his side of the line.
The only thing left was to consider bringing Ava along. Since she was pregnant I did not feel comfortable leaving her in the human world by herself. It would be a good thought to let her talk with the pack’s physician and look at what she needed in terms of her condition.
With her shot beginning to wrap up I could clear her schedule for the next few days. Stress and strain would not be good for her right now. The only problem was: Ava.
Ever since she told me her secret she has been guarded lately. I know she is keeping more from me but at this point I do not want to use my authority as Alpha to force her to tell me.
It would be better if she came to me of her own fruition and confided with me anything that she has been through.
I sent a text to Ava stating that he needed to see her in his office after the filming.
Even though there was no indication that Ava saw the text or not Elijah knew that she would respond to him in some way.
