#Chapter 79: Ceasing Fire

(Elijah’s POV)
I woke up to find my mate in my arms. I leaned into her body to make sure it was not a dream.
The scent of cinnamon and vanilla filled my nostrils. It had been three days since we took down all of the bases of the Syndicate. However there were still reports of humans trying to form groups to assault werewolves or people that they believed were werewolves.
I was optimistic that we could put an end to this.
I rose out of bed and took a deep breath as I got dressed. I pulled out a black suit with a blue shirt and black tie. Today was the day that we had been waiting for.
I received word that the high commanding officers of the humans were looking to bring me in for questioning. Word was spreading that a faction of wolves had lead an attack on a militia that was eradicating humans. Since Ava and I were known to the public as werewolves naturally they would suspect us first.
Good luck proving it. My wolf scoffed and laughed as he laid down and covered his body with his tail. I ignored his egotistical thoughts and continued to get dressed.
I heard movement behind me and as I turned to see my mate looking at me I could not help but salivate at her body partially covered by the sheets from our bed.
“What time is it,” Ava said as she stretched her body.
“It almost time to get ready. You have a speech to give, kitten,” I said as I fixed my tie. I looked at her from the mirror and smiled as she sat up in the bed. I knew I was a lucky wolf to have her by my side and after today the world would see what I saw.
A strong being that pushed passed every obstacles that stood in her way. A beautiful creature that was completely humble and modest to everything except her talent. Talent that would open doors and build bridges for years to come.
Ava pushed her feet to the floor and walked past me. I quickly grabbed her by the waist and turned her body towards the wall. I locked lips with my mate. I growled as I felt her leg slowly curl around my waist.
I could feel the pants of my suit grow tighter with each push and kiss I planted on her body. She giggled as she gently pushed me off.
“I have to get ready, you said it yourself. I have a speech to give. Broker peace and what not,” Ava said as she grabbed the bag that held her outfit and headed to the bathroom.
I quickly put on my gold watch and tighten the band.
“Ava are you re-ady,” I said as I saw the door open. As she walked out of the room I swallow the words that I was trying to form.
Her hair was wavy and falling down her back some was hiding half of her face. She was wearing an off the shoulder pantsuit that hugged every curve. Around her neck was a cord necklace that disappeared into the valleys of her chest.
My eyes followed her as she sat on the bed and slid her matching heels on her feet.
“How do I look,” she asked. I could smell fear and doubt clouding my mate’s mind.
“You look gorgeous.” I said as I planted a kiss on her forehead.
As we left the house I held her hand the entire time. I could tell that Ava was nervous to be out in front of the public. The last time she was in front of people she had transformed into TIde, her wolf and the world attacked her.
But her fans celebrated her and rallied to her defense. I was hoping that they would continue to do so.
When we reached the venue I saw all of the guards that I had hired both human and wolf lined up in front of the building. I also saw a tank and Hummer vehicle parked on the other side of the street.
I knew that the Second Lieutenant had his concerns but this was outlandish. I thought this even more so after I saw the twenty plus soldiers that were standing at attention on the opposite side of the street a few meters away from the Hummer.
“That is a little excessive,” I muttered. I looked down when I felt Ava squeeze my hand. I lifted her hand to my mouth and kissed.
“I promise that I will not let anything happen to you. I swear as Alpha of the Harbingers and as your mate.” I said as I kissed her.
I heard someone clear their throat in the front of the car. Ava broke the kiss and turned her head away from me. I restrained myself from two things: continuing the kiss between us and growling at the wolf in human form that interrupted us.
I opened the door and extended my head for Ava to be helped out of the car. I escorted her to the building. I stopped at the top of the stairs. I could see the confused look on her dace.
“Are you not coming with me,” Ava said with a wine. I gave her a peck on the cheek.
“No kitten, this is were we part for a while. I have to stay out here and make sure that none of them broker this agreement. You will be fine. Remember what I said,” I said as I let go of her hands.
Ava took a deep breath as she turned to see the Twins Tiene and Ash extend their hands out to her.
“We know that Alpha Elijah cannot escort you inside but,” Ash started.
“Hopefully the two of us can be half the man that our Alpha is,” Tiene finished.
“May you gentlemen escort me inside,” Ava said as she put each of her hands in the crook of the twins’ arm. I watched as my men lead my wife into the building. They opened the door for their queen as I watched them disappeared inside.
I turned around and stalked down the stairs. I stood in front of the building with my wolves and human bodyguards that supported my mission and Ava.
I saw both Lewis and Grayson’s wolf forms along the formation. I saw the soldiers look up to the screen that was displayed on the top of the building.
“After weeks from being away from the public eye she is finally making her appearance for all to see: Ava,” I could hear Sarah announce her on the stand.
I could hear cheering and applauds from fans from both the outside of the building and the inside. Before I could give it a second thought I saw both of the twins on the stage one on each side of the podium. I saw Ava slowly walk in front of the the microphone.
“Good afternoon everyone. First I would like to thank you all for attending to this conference.”
I looked away from the screen to see the Second Lieutenant make his way over to the buiking. Grayson growled at the man’s action.
“Calm down Beta,” I commanded. I hated using Grayson’s rank but I knew in this manner it would get everyone’s attention. This made Grayson qualm himself.
“Lt. Maverick,” I said.
“Mr. Connery, that is a fine companion that you have there.” I glared at his comment. “She would make a damn good solider.”
“She is nothing short of a queen Lt. and I would like you to give her your attention and respect.”
