#Chapter 44: Confrontation and Calm Waters

AVA’s POV
I was waiting up for Elijah in the front room when he came home. It seemed weird to wait up for him considering we were only companions but I felt compelled to see him. My inner wolf wanted his touch, my hormones were confusing my mind.
The door opened and Elijah entered in. I smiled at him but it suddenly fell when I saw the look in his eyes. The look of authority.
The look of the Alpha that demanded respect. I had seen this a few times with Jacob but Elijah’s aura hit me harder than anything that I felt with Jacob. Clearly the power and strength difference in these males was staggering.
I bowed my head down in respect kept my tone leveled. I did not want Elijah to think I was challenging him in any way shape or form.
“Good evening, Alpha Elijah.” I kept my head down and my chin tucked in my neck.
“Seems being here you recovered you ability to respect your superiors.” Elijah growled at me. I knew now was not the time to backtalk him.
“So I am only going to ask you one time kitten: Is there anything you want to tell me about your past? Your family?” The aura that Elijah was putting off into the room was almost suffocating. I felt my throat tightening up and drying out.
I coughed for a moment trying to regain my composure. “I have told you everything there is to know about my family.” I said. I saw him sniff and inhale the air around us.
Now that we are in the were world all our abilities are at our disposal. Elijah could time if I was lying by the scent in the air. He could tell a lot of things just by my scent.
“So I guess you did not know that your the daughter of a witch.” Elijah’s tone changed drastically. I could tell that his wolf was fighting for dominance.
“What are you talking about? My mother was a wolf and my father was a human.” I said.
Were’nt they?
I tried to remember seeing my father but nothing came up. I tried to remember a time that I ever saw my mother shift into a wolf. Or ever what color her wolf’s fur was.
But there was nothing.
I paused as I sank into the couch. I began to whine a little. I was sure that my mother was a wolf. That was the only explaination that she was able to go back and forth to the human and were world.
“Did she lie to me?” I said looking up at the Alpha. It seemed that he knew more about my family than I ever did.
“I’m sorry kitten, but I had my wolves analyze your DNA. You are not human at all. You are half wolf and half witch, it makes more sense that you and your mother were able to travel under the radar. Your father was a wolf.” Elijah said as he sat next to me.
He wrapped his arm around me as I placed my head in the crook of his neck. I took in a deep breath of his scent to calm myself down but I was only met with sadness.
My mother was a witch.
My father was a werewolf.
I am a half wolf but not human…
“I did not know. I always assumed that my mother was not full wolf and that’s why we could not stay in the werewolf world. She gave me the impression that my father has a mortal and that he passed away before I was born.” I said trying to hold back my sadness and anger.
“They probably hid his identity from you just in case my pack wanted to interrogate them both. But that does not explain why you and your mother were are able to travel between worlds without detection. Our detectors warns us anytime there is a magical items or articles being used.”
That’s when I realized something; Elijah did not really know how I was able to travel.
“Elijah I don’t use magical items. My mother never used them either. She told me that the incantation she taught me was the best way to travel with out being detected. We used an incantation and chalk nothing else.”
Elijah had calmed himself down when he sat nestled to me. I look into his eyes and see only the clear blue sea. “Show me how you do it, kitten.”
At first I was reserved to show him. This was in fact a spell that would get myself in a lot of trouble, but I remembered what I promised myself and Elijah.
No more secrets.
“Can you lead me to your attic?” I said as I looked at the ceiling.
The attic was empty on one side of the wall. The other three walls had boxes and chests stacked neatly against them. I looked at the blank wall I would be using as a canvas.
All my fear had disappeared.
I moved to the center of the wall and drew a full circle on the wall with the white chalk that Elijah had given me. I took a deep breath to clear my mind and drew a crescent moon inside of the circle. Just like the last time I would be creating a doorway between the worlds.
“Image the place you want to be. Knock three times and enter here.”
I stepped back and extended my arm. I balled my fist and rapt on the drawn out symbol.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
It started slower than last time but a purple vortex began to form in the crescent moon inside of the circle.
“Well I’ll be damned.” That was the respond I heard behind me.
I could not help but smile at his reaction.

Elijah’s Pov
Well I’ll be damned. That was running through my mind the entire night after Ava showed me the incantation.
She explained that both she and her mother used this spell to travel under the radar. They must have been doing this even when my father was Alpha. I waited for the detection measures that signaled the pack when magic was being used. But it never happened.
Even though I had given Ava the guest room to sleep in, she asked me if she could stay the night with me. After everything she found out today I was not surprised that she needed comfort.
“Are you sure,” I asked as I opened the door to my bedroom. After washing the chalk off the attic wall, she went to change for bed. I had volunteered to help but she said that she had to be the one to wash aways the drawing.
“Leave no traces.” She said with a smile. She explained that after the first night she arrived in the human realm she slept at the closed lot and washed away that chalk to make sure no one saw it.
My heart broke for he knowing that she was without anything for the first few days until the competition.
When she walked into the room I could feel my wolf purring at the sight of her walking towards the bed. I assured both my wolf and myself that this was only for comfort and nothing more.
I had to be sure that this is where she wanted to be. “Ava, are you sure you want to stay here for the night?” I asked.
She wrapped her arms around her silhouette and nodded. “To be honest with you Elijah, I don’t want to be alone tonight. Everything that you told me is still playing in my head and I just want peace.” She said.
I could tell by her tone that she was holding in her emotions. I gestured to the bed letting her get in on the left side and I on the right. As she slid her body closer to mine like instinct I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her body into mine.
She turned and looked up at me. As I looked down at the beautiful woman I felt her brush her fingers tips against my face. With my free arm I loosened my grip and gently grabbed her hand from my face.
I let her hand slid across my palm as I brought her fingertips to my lips. She laughed at this action and tried to move further away but I growled playfully at her daring her to budge. She laced each finger into mine fitting almost perfectly into my hand.
I brought my head down to her shoulder and planted a kiss between the junction neck and collar. I kissed up to her throat and rolled her over to where she was facing me once again.
“Do you hate me since I am half witch?” She said. I could hear the sadness in her voice.
I kissed her lips and gripped her tighter against me.
“I don’t care what you are Ava. I care about you.” I said as I heard her chuckled against me.
“That’s the last thing he said before….” I heard Ava muttering in her sleep before she drifted off.
I knew there was no way to convince her to believe me. There were documents going back generations of the war between witches and werewolves. The Moon Goddess herself had placed a curse on one of the creatures for trying to turn a wolf guardian into a pet. Or at least that is what the legends were told to us as pups.
But if it were true how did Ava’s parents end up together despite the feuds between the races? Where was he when Ava and her mother were captured? Where was he now?

JACOB’S TERRITORY
“This is such bullshit!” Alex screamed as tried to storm out of the room. But once again Jacob was blocking her way. This had been the third time in a week that she was flying off at the mouth.
“At this rate you are going to wake up our child with your raving.” Jacob said. He knew he had to be the voice of reason.
“Fucking hell, did Ava and I get into any arguments like this.” He thought as Alex continued to stomp around.
“It’s not fair Jacob. I am your rightful LUNA and everyday I have to fight for my right. I don’t even have my title to fight for, because you let that bitch leave with it!” Alex screamed at his face.
That was it, Jacob’s eyes flickered from brown to yellow at his subordinates accusations.
“Shut the hell up, woman!” As Jacob used his Alpha voice, Alex began to whimper. “Thats better.” He growled.
“I did not let Ava leave. Ava escaped when you mind linked with me that you had to see me. She left and we have been combing the area for that half-breed mutt bitch for months now.”
“We only started to fight after Alex came back.” Jacob thought to himself.
“And look how that is going. And while you are out play hide and go fuck with that slut, none of the pack members truly respect or fear me because they did not see me as their true Luna. So what am I suppose to do, Jacob?” Alex shouted again.
This time the baby started to cry. Jacob closed his eyes and began to rub his temples. “You are going to listen to me carefully. I have a plan to find Ava and when I do I will strip her of her status. That will make you my mate and give you the rightful title.” Jacob stood up and grabbed Alex by her forearm.
“Now go in there and calm our son, now.” He growled at his mistress. She left the room and went to calm down their child. Jacob was on edge now more than ever.
Since he filled out the application he began to grow impatient with everyone around him. He hardly left the pack manor because he could not take the talks and rumors about his leadership. He could understand everyone’s misconception about the situation.
He had replaced a functioning Luna for a spoiled brat just because she gave him an offspring. However there was little he could do now. Jacob still loved Alex but his mating bond with Ava made it harder to function. He could not tolerate his mate being berated without her being able to defend herself.
He needed to separate Ava from his bond and reject her in front of the pack. With any luck he would be able to get the Harbingers to assist with that issue. Jacob knew that the Enforcers did not take unauthorized travelling between worlds, so Ava would be punished.
Alex returned back to the run and stood in front of him. Jacob stood up and enlaced his arms around her and tried to kiss her neck. But Alex moved away from Jacob’s touch.
“What’s the matter now,” he said. He was exhausted with Alex’s cold shoulder routine.
“I don’t really feel up to it since we are not truly mates. I came in to tell you that your Beta dropped this off.” She handed him the envelope and walked out.
Jacob rips the envelope open and quickly grabs the letter inside. Jacob reads it and smirks. This is the letter he has been waiting on. It states that he has been approved to travel to the human realm. He is giving a location to report to. Jacob is able to assigned one person to accompany him if he wishes. He is only permitted to stay one month in the human’s realm and must show proof of his endeavors.
Jacob pulled out a cellphone that he only used for emergencies.
“Hello Trevor. Yeah it's Jake, I am calling to cash in a favor. I need you locate someone for me in the human world.”
