#Chapter 29: More Wolf Than Dog
AVA
The second day watching Eyolf and Connor was very relaxing. She had finally texted Elijah telling him that the dogs were really easy going and she was going to take them the the park.
[SMS from Elijah👿] I am glad they are enjoying your company. The park is fine, just make sure Eyolf is not near any smaller dogs. He is scared of them and will bite if backed into a corner.
[SMS to Elijah 👿 ] I agree with Eyolf, yappers are intimidating.
Ava snapped herself out of it as she loaded both dogs into the truck Elijah told her would be easier to transport them in. She had been absentmindedly flirting with him again. It was as if she could not help herself.
The truck was almost as nice if not better than the truck that Jacob and the pack used to buy supplies from the town. Unlike Jacob’s the tailgate was not as long but the backseat was large enough for both furry companions to fit and lay down while the driver could relax.
Elijah must have had these dogs throughly trained. They did not even lift their heads up when I rolled the windows down. I was tempted to send him a message scalding him about it. Dogs needed to be in their nature even if they were wolf bred.
As they made their way to the park, Ava noticed that there were not other dogs in sight. It was gated so Eyolf and Connor could run as much as they wanted. Before letting the dogs out of the truck she glanced at her phone for any updates on the scenes.
The director told me that I could report to the set on the next day and we would be filming until the night. That meant I might have to stay the night at Elijah’s tomorrow. His place was closer to the set and Sally did tell me to pack an over night bag just in case; it was to dangerous to drive on the countryside where Elijah stayed.
Sally was worried about my dizzy spells too. I regretted telling her when she dropped me home. She was a worrywart, this she admitted, but worry and overbearing was a thin line.
I decided to make sure Elijah was alright with me staying at his home. Courtesy and what not.
[SMS to Elijah 👿 ] Hey Elijah. I was wondering if it was okay if I spent the night at your house tomorrow? The director told me that filming would be all day.
[SMS from Elijah 👿] I have no problem. It is dangerous to drive there late at night if you are not familiar with the paths. You are welcome to anything you need in the house.
I tried to hide my smile at his approval. He was my boss. He was in charge one of the strongest packs in all of North America. He was the second strongest Alpha next to the Wolf King. That information alone should have terrified me, but it excited me.
Elijah was natural leader and was very respectable. Despite our first encounter he has treated me with nothing but respect. Part of me wish the lies that Lily had been spreading held some truth, but I know that I was reaching.
Just like Jacob, Elijah was a pureblooded wolf. I seriously doubt he would be with me if he knew I was a half-breed. I doubt that he would have any feelings for me if I was a human.
Most were wolves denied the mating bond if they found that their mate potential was a human. Most did not want to risk bringing a half born into the world. My parents ignored that prejudice.
But there was also the fear that the human mate would be challenged by a werewolf for the chance to take their place. When that happened most humans would be killed in combat, it was considered a fair fight even when the were shifted and attacked the human.
My attention was focused on my thoughts that I did not realize that Eyolf and Connor had laid down next to me relaxing underneath the shade of the trees.
“Are you guys finished playing?”
Eyolf got up and shook his fur and pushed his muzzle against my neck. Connor yipped as he got up and nudged his paws into my thighs.
“Alright, alright, let’s pack it up. I got to head to home for lessons before it gets dark.
I loaded the pooches into the truck and drove back to the manor for feed them before my classes online started. I would have stayed and studied there however I left my material and computer at home.
I told the wolves goodbye before leaving the house. I locked the door to the house and headed to the sports car that Elijah entrusted me with.
As the woman left the house and locked the door behind her, someone made their way through the back door. It was fortunate that there were no cameras in the house or even outside was lacking security.
The intruder had guessed the Alpha was confident no one would break into his home.
Everything had worked in the intruder’s favor. Elijah had gotten a call for business, he asked his little actress to dog sit for him.
Ignoring all the expensive possessions was like forgoing the crown jewels. So tempting. But the interloper had a mission to complete. The intruder enter the closed door that was homed to the beasts that Elijah cared for and loved like family.
The intruder pulled out a extending pole from its knapsack. It took three extending parts to connect to reach the wolf-dogs. Even if they were asleep for the moment, the invader did not want them to wake up at any time that the drug was being administered.
Breaking in was the easy part. As the intruder sat down in the middle of the floor, they pulled out a case and opened it. Inside of the case was several vials of purple colored liquids.
The intruder pulled out two syringes and extracted the contents from the vials an into the syringes. While the wolf-dogs slept the intruder gave the stimulates
to the dog that had “Eyolf” on its collared tag. The animal began to shuffle its feet as if it was running in its dreams. Then the intruder screed the second syringe to the pole and leaned froward towards the “Connor.”
While the dog was asleep it began to growl and twitch in frustration. The drugs were not fast acting but it would work through the animals’ bloodstream quickly while they sleep. The intruder disposed of the empty vials in the bag.
The intruder tiptoed out of the room truly frighten to wake up the monsters from their dreams or nightmares now. As the intruder backs away from the the kitchen the intruder bumped into furniture. That caused the furniture to knock over a statue.
“Shit.” The intruder swore as the stature fell to the floor. Even though the statue did not break the sound woke up the dogs. There was a sudden bang coming from behind the intruder.
The intruder started to panic. That was not apart of the plan. Hell looking at the layout of the house that furniture was not on the blueprint. Before the intruder could think of who’s fault it might be there was furious growls and barks coming from beyond the kitchen.
The intruder was relieved that the statue was still in one piece. They were not too worried about the dogs not only because of the cages keeping them in but also because the stimulate takes hours before it becomes activated. They were being guarddogs for the moment.
With no further sound the barks and growls cease completely. The intruder puts the statue back as if it was never disturbed and leaves the same way they entered in. Nothing is stolen and as soon as the intruder leaves the dogs quiet down and fall back to sleep. The medicine coursing through the veins of the wolf-dogs.
