#Chapter 69: The Role of a Lifetime
AVA
Making the announcement about my relationship with Elijah not only got the media and tabloids to halt their onslaught of my character, but it also made it easier for our relationship to flourish.
After dropping the twins and Asher to Melissa I decided that I would message Sarah about my upcoming meetings. My career as an actress has progress further than anyone could have anticipated. Sarah messages me about a meeting for a role that I would have not been possible.
I settle down in my Aston Martin DB11 that was given to me by Elijah as a gift. I smirk as I feel the power of the engine at my finger tips. I press the on call button on the steering wheel and have a speed dial open the line to Sarah.
After a few rings I hear the click that registers she is picking up. I only use the in call function when needed and I never talk on the phone with the children in the vehicle. The music is enough entertainment for us to drive to our destinations.
“Good evening, Sarah,” I smile into my speaker phone. Speaking with her is like a breath of fresh air. It funny that at one point we were at odds.
“Hello there, Ava.” Sarah greets me in her professional tone. “Well I have news that the producer Gerald Bromski aka Big Brother would like to meet with you for a filming opportunity.
I cannot hide my glee as I slam on the brakes. I am pushed forward for a moment before readjusting myself back into my seat.
There is a faint sound of a horn blaring behind me.
“Ava, what was that! Are you alright?” Sarach asks. I can tell by the pith in her voice she is frantic.
“I am alright, I got a little excited and I guess I was going a little faster than I expected.” I giggled.
“I curse Mr. Connery for buying you that thing. Are the children with you?”
“Relax, Sarach, the children are with their godmother. I am fine and so are they. Now tell me about this meeting with Mr. Bromski.”
I look at my rear view mirror and notice that the person that honked at me had got tired of waiting and went in front of me. I shrugged my shoulders in indifference. I have time on my hand and refuse to get into an accident. If I am late than I am late.
“He wants to meet at the Area 789 to discuss you starring in one of his upcoming films.” Sarah says. I hear a ping for my notifications. “I sent you the details so you can head straight there. Let me know how everything goes.”
The call ends and when I approach the next red light I lean forward to connect the address to my navigation system. Area 789 is few blocks away from my location. So I have enough time to head to my condo and change.
Elijah and I decided that I should keep the condo just in case I needed to prep for a role. I was easily detracted by the children and Elijah pointed out that as a mother I did not hesitated to drop everything for the twins and Asher.
As I looked pass the mirror in the front of the restaurant I could not help but to give myself a once over to make sure everything was perfect. I was wearing a beige off the shoulder dress that stopped to my knees with black stiletto heels. I pulled all of my hair into a bun with a few hairs loosely hanging around my face.
I put my rose gold clutch purse underneath my armpit and walked to the stand in the front of the lobby. I gazed in amazement at the view. The sky was at its peak of twilight to the moment that the awn and dusk bid each other a good night before shifting positions in the sky.
I took a deep breathe as I made my way to the table. Sarah had already told me the table and who to look for and Mr. Bromski was already waiting for me. He was sitting towards the entrance and as soon as he saw me he lifted his wine glass.
He stood up as I approached the table and went to pull out my chair for me. Gerald Bromski was a stout man that stood a little taller than me at 5’9 while I was average height of 5’5. He had a round face as if he never lost any baby weight. Gerald wore a black pin strip suit with white and black dress shoes.
“Ah Miss. Ava, how glad I am that your secretary took my call,” he said as I sat down in the chair. He gently nudged me to the table.
“Actually Ms. Pierce is my agent and manager. I do not have a secretary.” I did not want Mr. Bromski to get the wrong idea about me nor the people that I work with.
“Nethertheless, I am glad that she set this meeting into motion. I have been a huge fan of yours since your debut in the South Bayou series. You brought life into your roles no matter how small they were.”
I could tell he was buttering me up, but having someone as bug as the man sitting next to me give me compliments truly meant something.
“Thank you Mr. Bromski—
“Call me Big Brother, Mr. Bromski was my father and his father before him. Its why I coined the name Bro.” Before I could engage him in thanks he snapped his finger and two waiters quickly followed suit.
One was holding two short chilled wine glassed while the other had a bucket of ice in one hand and the wine in the other. From the looks of the display the wine had already been opened. In my opinion it was early to celebrate anything.
“Now to business, I want you to star in my next big feature. I want you to play the Nubian Queen as a biopic and you will play opposite to Evette Cole.” I could feel tears forming in my eyes. This was a role of a lifetime and I was going to be along side the movie star that idolized since she was a child.
I could feel my heart pounding.
“The role is yours for the taking,” Big Brother said with a disgusting grin.
“Oh Big Brother this is a dream come tru—-
“If you are mine for the taking,” he said cutting me off mid sentence.
“Wait do you mean that…
“Right now everything is in the air you know. All conditional…If you want the role you have to show me how badly you desire it. And be my lover.”
“Y…you can’t be serious.” That was all I could say. There was no way this was happening.
“Be my lover and the part is yours but if you refuse the role will immediately be given to others and you will be blocked from any other production in this industry.” He took a swig of wine and swished it around his mouth before swallowing.
The action and his intentions left my throat dry and bile rise in my throat.
“I mean I doubt people will want to work with a wanted criminal,” he added.
“What did you say,” I said as I glared at the man in front of me. There was no way he knew about that. Those records were sealed. This was a more serious form of consequences. How did he know about that?
While I tried to ponder everything, Bromski stood up from his chair and tossed a few bills on the table next tot the check. Surpirsignly I never saw them bring the bill.
“I will give you until tomorrow to decide. Give me your answer tomorrow night I would like you to be my date for dinner. To make it official.”
I became dazed and confused. I remembered the incident ten years ago, that halted my life further than I had thought possible. When I tried to audition for a role after my mother had passed away. I was backed into a corner and pressured into preforming in front of a commercial director.
With all his advances that I tried to wave away he had cornered me. In defense I had unknowingly SHIFTED and when I tried to push him off I slammed him into the wall. He had suffered a mild concussion and bruising. What made my files seal where not only the action of the human police but the Enforcers as well.
I had an alias name that neither side bothered to check. The human police thought that I was protecting a boyfriend of male partner that had walked in on the attack. When I told them that I pushed him and that the director had slipped they sealed my records. They could not wrap their minds around a young woman as small as me putting a man three times my size in the hospital.
However with the Enforcers, they knew the truth. They knew that I had shifted and defended myself against a possible sexual assault. This current deal was like a replay of that time, and I but this time it seemed that I had no choice.
