#Chapter 31: The Secrets Out
Just as planned I was working on the set from the sun up to the peak of dusk. Whatever that meant. Before heading to the set I stocked up on anything and everything that could help me get through the hours.
My dizziness and vertigo symptoms had not fade, even the slightest. If anything they had gotten worse. I went to the medicine bag that I had purchased along with ginger chews to help with my sour stomach. I had aspirin and a travel compress just in case I got a headache.
During the break I went to the bathroom to relieve myself. As I entered I overheard the girls talking about different subjects.
“I went to that party and it was a total bust.” The girl that was playing the sister to the lead character. I think her name was Linana.
“I told you, sweetie you should have went with me and Shawn we had a blast at the bubble party.” The makeup artist named Brooklynn said. She had been talking about that party for days and I was glad she had fun.
“Does anyone have any pain meds?” An actress walked into the bathroom. Without hesitation I handed her my bottle. “OMG, Ava you are a lifesaver. I have been miserable the entire shoot. The idea to shoot the entire day is completely insanity.” We laughed at the young girl. She was saying what we were all thinking.
“YOu having a migraine too?” I asked.
“I wish,” she said as she popped two pain pills in her mouth. She turned the water faucet on, cupped her hands like a cup and filled it with water.
As she drank the water from her hands everyone around us conversed to different topics.
“No, I am having bad cramps. My menstrual cycle is about to come soon and the cramps have been killing me for the past few days. Thanks so much for that.” She quickly left the bathroom.
Cycle? I thought as I looked into the mirror. I had been so busy I did not realize that mine should have been due.
Wait when was mine usually? I took out my phone and looked t the calendar in my phone. I had pair an app with the phases of the moon.
Even though I could not shift in the human world it gave me peace to bask in the moonlight.
If my memory was correct I was usually due three days after the crescent moon. As I looked at my calendar and I began counting I started to panic. I had missed two crescent moons, which means I missed two cycles.
I was pregnant! With that thought, I felt bile coming up from my throat. I ran to the bathroom stall and empty the contents of my stomach.
I was pregnant. I slide to the floor and put my head against my knees. I had to be calm because my fear would lead to anxiety. Anxiety would lead to panic and I could not panic.
I could not panic right now. I was worried about my career, I had signed a contract that controlled my life and relations. Even though I told Elijah that I was not seeing anyone what would he say when I broke the news to him.
I was scared for my life, because I was carrying the child of an Alpha. There was no doubt in my mind that Alex would want me and my unborn child gone. And there was no telling if Jacob would come to my rescue. I was as he called me an half-bred mutt.
I didn’t even know what was inside of me. Since I was half human and half were the child’s chance of survival were slim. But I could not think of that. I had to get through the shoot and get home.
I would figure out what to do next, but I was certain my baby had nothing to worry about. I would protect this child to my last breath.
*
The shoot was over. Finally! I could rest my feet and my nerves. It had gotten later that the director had planned so I was leaving the shoot at almost seven-thirty. By the time I pulled into Elijah’s driveway it was close to eight.
At least Elijah had not made it her yet. I groan internally, when I remembered he wanted to talk to me. I thought of pulling out of the drive way but it was late and I did not trust the darkness or the roads back here.
I sighed as I grabbed my bag and walked up to the door. I put the code into the key panel and grabbed the key to let myself inside. I dropped my bag by the door and walked over to the kitchen.
My throat was parched and I needed to drink a glass of water. But before I could get a drink I stopped dead in my tracks. The door that held the kennel to Eyolf and Connor was taken off the hinges. I peered inside to see that the cages had been smashed open.
“What the—- but before I could speak I felt something slam into me. I slammed into the bottom cabinet door. I looked up to see Eyolf on top of me snapping at me. “Calm down, Eyolf,” I said to the raving dog.
He was suppose to be the calm one, but he was determined to bite me for some reason. As I fought to kept Eyolf away from my throat I tried to use the Luna call to calm him down. It had worked on Connor when he went after me so it should subdue him too.
But it was not getting through to the berserker wolf-dog. I could not find nor could I see Connor anywhere and that left me on edge. I tried to call out my wolf to take over but nothing was happening.
I tried to push Eyolf off from top of me and doing so I had to push my hands in front of him. In that instant he bit down on my arm and tried to yank me forward. I screamed as the pain spread through me like fire.
“Ava!” I heard a voice yell out. I felt a weight lift off me. Eyolf was no longer on me. Hell he was no longer in the room. I heard more barking and yelling. After that there was a growl and silence.
As I tried to pick myself up I felt myself falling. But I did not hit the floor. Elijah was in front of me holding on to me.
“Ava, are you alright?” He asked. There was blood on his wrist but no marks and scratches.
I would have said something but I could not process what happened. Eyolf and Connor were fine when I left them yesterday but for some reason I had been attacked by the dog.
“Ava, what happened?” Elijah said as he picked me up and carried me to the living room.
I could not get any thoughts out of the events that took place.
“Not the couch, I’m bleeding.” I could laugh at myself, I was worried about bleeding over his expensive furniture at the moment then my wellbeing.
“Screw the couch I can get another. Stay right here I’ll get the first aid kit.” Elijah said as he left the room. As I looked around dazed I still could not process what had happened.
“Alright I have the first aid kit right here. Don’t worry both dogs have their shots so you don’t have to worry about rabies or any—-”
As Elijah began to clean the blood from the wound I noticed that I did not feel any pain. I looked down at the wound. It was clean. NO it was not clean; it was gone. My bite wound that Eyolf had given me was completely gone as if it never happened.
I had healed myself. I looked up to see Elijah face. I could see him clenching his jaw. His eye met mine and all I could see was fury.
Elijah knew my secret now and there was nothing I could do at this point.
