#Chapter 34: Roundabout of Suspicions
ELIJAH
As I showed Ava to her room I could see doubt in her eyes. She had been looking over her shoulders for so long I am surprised she was trusting me with the truth now.
“Stay in the guest room, tonight. You need to rest.”
I could feel my role as Alpha push authority on her. Now that Neptune and I were sure she was a she-wolf, we made sure that she followed the rules laid out for her.
“What about you? Where are you gonna sleep?” Ava asked me.
Her concern for me was touching but I had other things to worry about.
“Don’t worry kitten, I can sleep in one of the rooms that did not get destroyed.”
I assured her that I would be fine. I needed her to be well rested.
My decision to let Ava continue to stay the night was a logical decision. Atleast that is what I keep telling myself. There was no point in having her leave at this hour.
Truth be told I wanted to keep an eye on her, because of the attack and her pregnancy. I was still upset about her lying to me, but after hearing some of her past I could understand.
I went into the kennel room where Connor and Eyolf were resting. Since they went mad and attack me and Ava; I wanted to stay up and make sure nothing else happened.
“Hey there guys, how are you two feeling?”
I cooed at them. Both dogs were resting on a blanket inside their kennels. I pulled out two vials with needles to extract blood from the wolf-dogs.
“Easy guys, I promise it will only hurt for a moment.”
I took blood samples from my dogs and labelled them with their name on each vial. But as I finished extracting the samples I noticed a small track mark under their fur. I almost missed it, if I had not petted Connor to soothe him back to sleep.
I did the same thing to Eyolf and found the sample marking in the exact same spot. I began to sneath, because while I was gone both of my dogs had been drugged. This was not a coincidence.
I made my way back tot he kitchen closing the door to my sleeping pups behind me. I grabbed my phone out of my jacket pocket that was hanging on one of the chairs.
“Hey Martinez, its Elijah. Yeah its good to hear from you to. Look I hate to call you so late but I need a favor.” I spoke quietly and quickly.
I called an old friend in the were world community to see if they could analyze the samples on both Connor and Eyolf.
“Thank you Martinez, and whatever you need I will make sure it happens.” I said to the other end of the phone. “Hmm, you would like to meet her,” I sneered at the request. Of course Ava was making a name for herself in our community as well.
Martinez was a werewolf that was allowed to travel freely between realms due to his doctrine and keynotes. He was a late bloomer and it would have been hard to completely take him from the human realm. So he traveled for his research and studies, but kept communication between himself and humans to a minimum.
I laughed at the thought when he discovered the actress he wanted to meet was actually a were just like him.
“Again thanks, Martinez. I’ll make good on our deal. Have a good night.”
I ended the call and began to backtrack. I looked at the island in the middle of the kitchen and my eyes landed on the plastic that caught a little bit on moonlight. I had Ava leave her water bottle on the kitchen cabinet and I would dispose of it.
“Grayson, its me.”
“Boss…” there was a pause. “Its 3 in the morning….” I could hear my Beta grumble in the earpiece.
“I need you to come and pick up a sample and run it through the database.”
I heard a yawn at the other end.
“I have Ava’s DNA for testing.”
“I’ll be there in twenty.” The call had ended. That got him out of bed.
I bagged the bottle to have Grayson investigate Ava. It would also help to initiate the paperwork if Ava’s DNA was in the database.
Seeing as Grayson could use the same portal that I used to travel back and forth I knew it would not take him long to get to my house. My phone vibrated and the message read:
[SMS from Grayson:] I’m at the kitchen door.
I let my Beta in and he began to make himself a pot of coffee. Even though werewolves did not need the stimulate, Grayson got a taste for it when we settled into human realm.
I handed him the plastic bag. He looked at it for a moment.
“I should be able to get her prints and DNA from this.” Grayson said with confidence.
“When you run her DNA also look for anyone with DNA that matches. I spoke with Lewis earlier. Apparently Ava was using the same teleportation spell that her mother used years ago.”
Grayson grabbed a mug from the cabinet and turned to me. “That’s impossible! Witches stopped aiding weres transport between the realms before you took the role of Alpha. How is that possible?”
“She probably kept the spell all this time and then passed it down to her daughter. It would make sense.” I said as I leaned against my marble countertop. Hard to believe that hours ago there was blood on the tops and the floor.
“Also, that alert you got about the perimeter I think it was a bait to get me out of the human world.”
“What makes you say that?” Grayson questioned. He took a sip f his coffee.
“Because when I came back Connor attacked me and Eyolf was down here biting Ava’s wrist.”
Grayson spit out his coffee and began to cough and heave.
“What the shit, Alpha! I think you should have lead with that. Wait…is that how you figured out—” Grayson’s eyes grew wide.
“Eyolf bite Ava’s wrist but when I went to give her first aid the wound healed itself. She is a she-wolf.” I confirmed it to my Beta.
“Well, shit, I had my convictions but to hear it out loud. Wow!” Grayson said taking another sip of coffee.
“You are cleaning that up before you leave. Took us hours to get the mess the dogs did on this place.” I said.
“She’s still here?” Grayson asked. I could tell he was in disbelief.
“She’s asleep upstairs in the guest bedroom.”
Grayson set his mug on the counter and looked me dead in the face. “Not to question your decision, but why is she not being toted back to the otherworld.”
“She’s pregnant.” I said bluntly.
“You work fast.”
“It’s not mine, idiot.” I said as Grayson barked out a laugh.
“Sorry boss I could not help it.”
“Ava and I made a deal and her ability to continued staying in the human realm depends on her telling me the truth.”
Grayson looked at the bottle I had given him. “So if you told her to tell her the truth, why run her DNA through the database?”
“I wanted to get more data on the woman in the taping and on Ava’s mother. I know they are the same woman, but I feel like there were some things that even Ava does not know..”
“Like what?”
I was not sure how to answer Grayson’s question because I did not have the answer, but I was determined to find them.
