#Chapter 55: Doubts Setting In

AVA
I could not be happier to have days off from shooting. Do no get me wrong I love filming but it is starting to become rigorous on my body.
Back and forth. Day in and day out. At this point there are days I wish I would have taken Elijah up on his offer to take a break until I recovered from delivery.
This is my last day of the three day break from the studio and unfortunately I was bed resting for one. After Elijah found me unconscious he issued Pack Law that I would continue to be in his care until further notice.
“From now on you are under my rood and my protection. Until further notice no unauthorized spells.” Elijah told me after we discusses the spell and ritual I performed.
Today I decided to take Connor and Eyolf out for a walk. They had been cooped up in their kennels for weeks since they went berserk. I had always wanted a dog since I was a little girl and I was glad that these two fur babies trusted me; even liked me.
Elijah agreed to let me walk the dogs as long as I was close to the house.
“Some times your owner can be a real worrywart,”I told the two hounds. I strapped them both in their harnesses and leashes. They barked at me with joy. “I guess we all need a little refresh air.”
Walking around the country side reminded me a lot like the pack lands. The air was crisp and the wind blowing against me was so peaceful. I could feel my child’s movement as the dogs slowly walked with me.
“Looks like you guys have a new friend that cannot wait to meet you,” I said as I patted my stomach. Eyolf sniffed the air next to me and whimpered for a second, while Connor was looking around and began to growl.
He was looking at the group of trees that obscured my view. “What’s the matter, buddy,” I asked as I squatted down to Connor’s level. I brush my hand to his neck to calm him down. He only settled down with his growling however his gaze never left that area.
I could feel Tide’s uneasiness as well. This had me worried because she had not made an appearance since I found out I was pregnant. I could hear her panting and whimpering as we made our way back to the the house.
As we began to enter the house I felt Tide pull me towards the backyard. I shook it off, but then Tide growled at me!
What’s the matter with you? I thought as I entered the house. She continued to whimper and cry and even though I wanted to ignore her I knew there had to be a reason why she was calling to me.
I quickly ushered the wolf hounds back to their kennels. I gave them both water and food before I closed the door to their room and made my way to the kitchen. I went to grab my water canteen from the fridge but then Tide started back up again.
Mate.
“Bullshit,” I answered my wolf. There was no way that Jacob was here. And I knew she did not mean Elijah…did she.
Mate’s scent.
I felt like I was going crazy. There was no way Jacob was here, but that pull to the backyard did not fade. I felt like a bitch in heat from her soulmate.
I mean I was pregnant and Doctor Julian did mention that the scent of my mate would effect my wolf and pheromones. I needed him.
Remember that he threw you away. I thought as my pace grew quicker. I halted to where the scent was at its peak. The ground had been dug up and disturbed. Something had been buried and my mate’s scent was all over it.
I dropped to my knees and curled my fingers as my clwas extended.
Mate.
“Yeah I heard you”, I grumbled as I started to dig. I did not care if my clothes were ruined. I needed to see what was holding Jacob’s scent.
I heard a plink sound when my claw’s nail hit what I thought could be the end of my treasure hunt.
Glass. I thought as I scraped my nails against the surface. Buried deep in the ground was a bouquet or what was left of it of welted dead flowers. The fragrance of the flowers were no longer there, but Jacob’s scent was.
His pheromones were coated and grew pungent as it festered in the soil.
The crystal vase was cracked in a few places but did not shatter. The arrangement was dead but the colors got my attention.
Pink and white where now tarnished with brown and black.
Like the love that we had shared.
“He picked out all my favorite flowers,” I whispered trying not to cry.
There was a card with writing I could no longer read. There was a small dirt covered box that had not been opened. The seal was still on it. There wa also a letter smudged with dirt and mud; it was also unopened.
“Why would anyone bury these and no read the contents,” I questioned as I looked at everything in front of me. Then I realized that I was living with an Alpha wolf and my mate was an Alpha as well. It was the dominion of a powerful wolf and Jacob had found a way to enter Elijah’s territory.
I did not bother to cover the hole I had unearthed. I figured if Elijah had the gull to hid something like this from me I would not hide that I found my belongings. I kicked off my walking shoes and made my way upstairs to wash off.
Even though I was upset with Elijah I still had respect for the Alpha and his home. I toss all my dirt covered cothes in the hampre and entered the shower.
I did not bother waiting for the temperautre. I needed to calm dwon. My horomones were messing with my head. All I could think about my mate that had abandon me.
He must have wanted me back, right? He went out of his way to track me down and deliver flowers to my doorstep.
But I quickly remembered the last time we spoke he made it clear that he did not want or need me as his mate. HE found another.
Maybe he realized his mistake. My wolf tried to convinced me. The Moon Goddess did have a way of testing her people. As the cold water hit me I could not help but think of the Alpha that had been taking care of me. e
Elijah never overstepped his boundaries even though there were times he could have. HE was determined to help me and my unborn child. He was the Alpha of the Harbingers and he could have turned me in at any moment.
As I exited the shower I looked at the discarded gifts that Jacob had sent to me. I had put them over a towel on my nightstand. I quickly dressed in a pair of short night bottoms and a over sized shirt.
I felt like a hypocrite pining for my ex and wearing Elijah’s shirt right now, but I needed comfort. I need a wolf’s scent to help me sleep. At first I thought Jacob’s was whom’s I needed since he was the father of my child, but after a few nights of sleeping next to Elijah I found that he calmed me.
He settled my mind but at the same time he ignited my nerves. I looked over Jacob’s letter and found that he gave a short not so sweet detail that he was in the human realm and wanted to see me. I sneered at his words on the paper. He wanted something but he did not want me.
I looked at the small box that rested next to the envelop. I used my nail to break the seal and could not help but cry when I saw the contents.
It was necklace that had a moon shape pendent hanging on the chain. Inside the moon was a diamond cut heart. I could not remember the last time that he gotten me something so beautiful.
I laid it flat on my lap and started to gather my hair in a tie so I would be able to hook the necklace around my neck. I could not explain why but even with the resent me I had towards Jacob I still wanted to wear it.
I took a deep breath and let out a sigh. But my calm was soon shattered in a instant when I heard the Alpha yell in a demanding voice.
“AVA!”
