#Chapter 51: A Glimpse into The Void

AVA
I saw Elijah waiting on me outside his house in the driveway. I could not help the big grin on my face when I saw him. When my car came to a stop he opened my driver side door and took my hand helping me get out.
I never been treated like this. I could feel my face grow hot.
This man is overwhelming me.
“So how was the shoot this afternoon?” He said. Why was making conversation so easy for him now. Did he not get a rush of flashbacks like I did?
“It went better than the director anticipated. He kept complimenting after every scene.” It was a little unnerving at the beginning.
“The director for the filming right now wants the best and he refused a lot of the talent that Moon and other studios had shown him. He emailed me a list of artist and actresses that he wanted in his productions.” Elijah said as he ushered me to the house.
“Best thing is knowing what you want right?” I said. I smirked at him as I walked in front of him. I could see Elijah eyeing me the entire time.
It excited me. That is not why you came here Ava. I silently told myself.
“So about the information your pack found?” I quickly changed the subject.
Before Elijah could say anything I heard a voice coming from the bathroom. The door opened and his beta almost walked into me.
“That is why I am here madam.” Grayson said with a smile. I noticed that he was wiping his hands with one of the towels from the bathroom rack.
“Are those my good towels you are wiping your filthy fingers with?” I heard Elijah growl behind me. I thanked the Goddess that he could not see my face right now.
I looked up to see a sinister look on Grayson’s face. My eyes grew wide, Elijah could not see my face but his Beta could. I watched his smile grew and stretch to his eyes.
“What’s the matter Little Aviator is the BIg Bad Alpha scaring you? You are practically red with fear right now.” Grayson said. I could tell he was looking at Elijah with every word he uttered.
“Idiot, red is not the color of fear its….” He never finished his sentence.
“Grayson did you and the others find out anything about my family.” I interrupted. I had to steer this conversation to a different topic.
Who knows what was going to happen if I didn’t.
“Right,” Grayson said as he walked in to the kitchen and motioned for the Alpha and I to follow suit. “ There were several documents on the kitchen isle’s countertop. Several folders were spread out as well.
“After our gracious leader assigned us this task I was able to find old records that were never transferred after your mother unfortunate departure.” Grayson said as he sat in on of the chairs.
I sat across from him and Elijah slid his chair closer to me. Part of me wanted to look closer at this action but I was determine to learn more about my mother—about her past that she kept from me.
Look records that I saw were barely legible but I put my faith in Elijah’s pack. “Did you find anything else?” Elijah said as my eyes scanned the documents in front of me.
“Is Sissy here?” I asked. Both men looked at me questionable.
“No she is out at the studio right now, why?” Elijah told the room. I hid my relief.
“I would rather not let anyone outside your higher ranks know about my past. I barely know about my parents I don’t want anyone judging me for it.”
“Ava, I doubt Sissy would judge you, but we will keep this between us.” Elijah said motioning to himself and Grayson.
“And besides the others had sworn not to utter a word about what they found to anyone outside the designees.”
“Designees?”
“Wolves that I assign to certain missions. They are not allowed to discussion the meeting to anyone other than myself without my knowledge or say so.” Elijah said.
The tone of his voice grew deeper as if his wolf wanted to make an appearance.
“What else did you find?” Elijah continued the conversation back to the task at hand.
“Well another thing Ava’s real name was not in the database was because her mother had it changed a few years after she gave birth. It made sense to why it took us so long to find you just based on your given name.” Grayson handed a document to Elijah, who looked at it and passed it to me. It was my birth certificate. It was clear and preserved. My real name was there but there were several empty slots.
The slots that were filled out was my name, the time she delivered me, the date, and her name.
“This can’t be right. There is hardly anything on here.” I tried not to cry. This was a deadend. I felt warmth along my back.
Elijah had placed his hand on my back and patted me to soothe me.
I guess he was not going to use his Alpha call with Grayson in the room.
“Well that is not true. So Lewis dug deeper into spell you use to move through the realms. Its not just any spell; it is a teleportation spell that was handcrafted.”
Handcrafted?
“That means that whom ever made this spell was not only skilled but powerful enough that she could be undetected by werewolves. Want to know what the main ingredient to this unique spell?”
Elijah shrugged and I just looked at Grayson wondering myself.
“The blood and hair of an Alpha were.” Grayson said.
I looked at Elijah and saw all the blood drained from his face I had no doubt that I had a similar look.
“My mother was working with an Alpha.” I said.
“So why would any Alpha aid a witch in a spell that would cloak her spell signature?” Elijah asked. He was grinding his teeth in aggravation.
“I am getting to that. First her name was Harmony Bell Torres. Which explains why you do not share the same last name as your mother.
“She was married before she was mated to a were. She was mated with a were and then she gave birth to you. You carry your father’s name.”
“So who is my father?” I asked. “If I have his name than you should be able to find him, right?”
Elijah let out a sigh.
“That’s if he wanted to be found kitten. Back than it was unheard of to be mated with a witch. I am pretty sure that she was probably working with a pack and they fell in love.”
Grayson let out a sound that imitated a bell.
“Ding! Ding! Ding! Harmony Bell was a personally witch for a pack alright. There are records of domestic abuse in her first marriage so there is a possibility that the Alpha she got the ingredients from was also the one that helped her escape her first marriage.”
Grayson’s explanations left me with only more questions and few answers.
“So my father sheltered her and the Moon Goddess made them mates. It makes no sense then where is he!” I shouted.
“I am sorry Ava that’s were the trail goes cold.” Grayson’s mood dampened.
I looked at Elijah and he wrapped his arm around my waist. He pulled me in closer and I breathed him in. His scent gave me a calming resolve.
“I’m sorry for that.” I said to Grayson.
“Don’t worry your freak out was not as bad as Lewis’s when we hit the wall. He was about to flip the table. I can still hear him shouting: “Got dammit, I was so close!” But there is always trails in wolf packs.”
We looked at Elijah who had been quiet through the rest of the meeting.
“Elijah.” I said trying to get his attention.
“Alpha.” Grayson muttered.
He looked at both of us as if he was snapped out of a trance. “Forgive me, I was just thinking. I have a theory: In the human world when the father’s name is absent from the birth certificate it is usually because he was not present for the birth or that he has passed.”
“So what do you think Alpha?”
“Either Ava’s father died before Harmony gave birth or the officials scrubbed his name from the records to preserver the ideals of wolves mating with witches.”
I turned to him and addressed his theory,“but why?”
“Since witches have always been enemies with wolves it was never a thought that our kinds could be fated. But you are living proof that it is possible. Your mother and father probably created that spell to cloak you from the Harbingers.”
“ You may be on to something there.” Grayson stated as he pulled out several other documents that were in plastic slips.
“These were found in the old files your folks kept, Alpha. These documents were persevered even after the fire.” Grayson said as he carefully passed the slips to us.
“Fire?” I asked. I looked over Elijah’s shoulder to look over documents. I was afraid they would crumble in my hands.
“The manor you stayed in during your visit to the pack’s land was rebuilt after the fire. I had it rebuilt close to the original state with minor upgrades.”
Grayson continued to explain.
“Some of the witches gained favor with wolf packs after the treaty was signed—at least before they started killing each other again. When wolves started to execute witches for selling black magic items and spells; the wolves of the High Council and Alpha King demanded punishment. That could have been the reason why Ava and her mother fled back to the mortal realm. Especially since her father was not in the picture.”
I looked at the scattered documents in front of me. Grayson had excused himself for the night to return back to the pack. Elijah had offered me the guest room stating that Sissy would be in the room further away.
I locked my door just in case she got any ideas. I tossed and turned in the bed unable to sleep. I could not help but think what would have been if my father would have been there to protect us.
Grayson’s findings left me more confused than I was before. I had more questions and few answers.
I decided that I would stop letting others do the work for me. I was going to look into my mother’s past myself. I was going to connect with Harmony’s lineage and forsake my wolf half.
It was the least I could do for my mother’s sacrifices.
