#Chapter 45: Who Am I?
AVA’s POV
I could not help but laugh at Elijah's reaction to going through my portal. After visiting with his pack he told me that it was time to head back to the mortal world.
“That does not feel right at all.” He said. He looked a little green around the ears.
“I told you that it's not for everyone. It took me years to get use to transportation like that. And I was nine.”
“Yeah,” Elijah said with a huff. “I have been using the portals since I was sixteen and training with the Harbingers, kitten.”
“And yet…you look like you are going to upchuck at any moment.” I said. I tried to hide my laughter but he wiggled his nose at me and shooed me away from the bags.
“I’ll get these you go ahead and rest. There is a lot to do in the upcoming days and you do not need to wear yourself down.” He said, hoisting the bags in each hand. He flipped both bags using his hands and one by one each of the bags where on his shoulders.
Which I could not argue with the man. I had an appointment with one of the doctors there and I could not miss it. Elijah had also told me that he had to fax a NDA over to the doctor’s office for all of the workers to sign.
Not only to keep my privacy during my pregnancy but to avoid anyone trying to disclose any information about me to the public. I had forgotten about issues like that considering during our visit to Elijah’s pack the biggest news was dropped on me.
I was not a half human werewolf. I was half witch. My mother was a witch as well.
When we were staying in Elijah’s home in the werewolf realm I slept in his bed. It gave me comfort to know that Elijah wanted me close to him. Every night I would fall asleep in his arms but every morning I would wake up to him being absent from the bed.
I chalked it up to pack duties. But one night before we headed off to bed, we talked a little about my past.
“I know this is out of the blue but I was wondering since you found out so much could you keep looking into my past and my mother’s?” I asked sheepishly. I was worried about what he might say to me.
“Of course, kitten. All you have to do is ask,” he said as he brushed my hair from my face.
“Well Grayson and Lewis did find your birth certificate during their initial search.” He said as he pulled me in closer to him.
“Could they show it to me?” I asked. I could not deny I was eager.
“Unfortunately the only thing we could decipher was your name and that was still murky.”
“What did it say?”
“Avalyn Pierce or Evelyn. The document was barely legible due to mishandling.” Elijah said with a yawn.
When Elijah asked about my name I just shrugged.
“So you have never heard of anyone calling you this before today?” He asked.
“I never heard of the last name before and my mother always called me Ava.” It felt like I was in a fog of uncertainty. I was starting to doubt myself. “I always assumed that was my real name.” I said frowning.
As I thought about our final nights at Elijah’s home, I could not help but blush. Every night he held me close to his body. He radiated heat between us justifying that he wanted to make sure the baby and I stayed at the right temperature.
“I don’t want you two getting sick.”
Some nights he kissed me on the cheeks other times my neck. As I bit my lip from the memory I grew disappointed and frustrated at myself. At the picnic I had told Sissy that there was nothing going on between Elijah and I, but there was obviously something there.
For a moment I felt like I was no better than Alex. When I had asked and confronted her about her feelings with Jacob she flat out denied that they had been seeing one another since she came back.
I knew it was a bold lie considering half the pack whispered about it. I felt like everyone was mocking me and I felt like a joke. I groaned at the thought of me doing the same thing to Sissy.
“Something the matter?” I jumped at his voice.
“You scared me.” I laughed at the tall and well toned man dropping our bags in the hallway.
“I didn't mean to. You must be deep in thought about something.”
“Elijah, why don’t you have a mate yet?” I asked. immediately I regretted my question. It was none of my business. He paused for a second.
“I guess I never found someone that the Moon Goddess saw fit for me to spend my life with. Why kitten, are you putting in an application?” Elijah said as he smirked.
“Not with your cocky attitude,” I said as I gave him a playful shove.
I stopped. I did not want to pry but I did want to know. “So there are no women in your pack that want to be with you?”
Elijah tensed for a moment. “Why the sudden interest in my personal life Ava?”
“Well I notice that there was one she-wolf in particular that staked her claim on you. Made it clear that you were off limits and I did not want to get in her way if she had a chance.” I said.
Elijah got closer to me to the point where I was staring at his chest.
“Ava there is no one that I have found that could be my mate. At least not in my pack. So whatever wolf staked her claim on me that does not exist is that clear.” I could see Elijah’s blue eyes begin to darken.
“Crystal.”
“If you excuse me I have work to do.” Elijah walked away and practically flew up the stairs.
I knew that I had crossed the line, so why was I so happy to hear that Sissy’s claims were false.
I looked at the time and began to bring my luggage up to the guest room. I would be lying if I said I was not tempted to proposition Elijah to sleep in his bed just one more night. But after our discussion down stairs I felt that I had overstepped my boundaries enough.
After putting away all of my things and clothes I grabbed my bag and headed outside. I had a few errands to run into town and I wanted to stock up on new clothes. Even though I was not showing right now it would not hurt to prepare for the up and coming months.
As I left the house I got a whiff of something out of place. It smelled like the forest but my bedroom in Jacob’s packhouse. I rushed it off thinking it could be my hormones toying with my emotions again. There was no way a scent like that could be in the human world.
