Chapter 293 Didn't Expect to Be Illiterate!
The Ward couple froze, not daring to say another word.
Jessica glared at William angrily, her eyes seeming to say. Look at the job you arranged for them back then, what have my parents become now?
This was something William truly hadn't anticipated. He had simply arranged what seemed like a decent position for the Ward couple... he never expected it would be this humiliating.
The Ward couple spoke humbly, "We know we're getting high salaries without really doing anything, and we're truly grateful to the company... but we still hope you two managers could give us a chance..."
Levi said coldly, "You two get lost! I don't know what kind of luck you had to get into Oceanview Corp in the first place. I've wanted to fire you for ages! You'll be lucky to last until the end of the year, and you still want to bring someone else in?"
Kieran's whole family was frightened.
Eva frowned, "Levi, we did eat their meal after all, don't go too far."
Levi sneered, "Fine, we can arrange a job, but starting today, you two will be responsible for cleaning all the bathrooms in the marketing and HR departments, and your salary gets cut in half!"
Kieran's family was stunned, especially Jessica. Her parents' salaries were her source of income. How could she accept losing half of it?
"If you can arrange a decent position for William, we'll do it," Kieran said through gritted teeth.
"Mom, Dad, are you crazy? Just to find him a job, you're willing to take a 50% pay cut? I don't agree!" Jessica only cared about money. She didn't care about cleaning toilets, but less money? Absolutely not.
Both Levi and Eva were taken aback. They hadn't expected them to agree. But having these two idle people clean toilets, they were happy with that.
Eva turned to William, "What's your education level? What did you study in college? Do you have work experience? What are your skills?"
The Ward couple looked hopeful. It seemed there was a chance!
But William shook his head. "I never went to school."
The moment those words came out, the whole room fell silent, as if the air had frozen.
"You didn't go to college? So you have a high school diploma?" Eva's eyes widened.
"No, I never went to school at all."
This statement dropped like a bombshell, leaving everyone stunned. Never went to school at all? In today's society, that was basically equivalent to being functionally illiterate, and extremely rare.
Jessica was shocked too. She had at least attended community college. She never imagined William was completely uneducated. Now she understood why the Watson family had kicked him out. What use was keeping an illiterate loser?
No wonder he had come to her house. Someone like him couldn't find work anywhere. Even the easiest warehouses and logistics companies require at least a high school diploma. If he didn't come to her house, William would probably starve to death.
"Kieran, are you deliberately messing with us?" Eva was furious.
She had felt a bit guilty after eating their meal and figured arranging some random position wouldn't matter. After all, they were placed there by upper management. Though she didn't want to give special treatment, outright refusing would be awkward and make things too uncomfortable.
She never expected William to be illiterate!
The Ward couple was dumbfounded, too. This was something they had never considered.
Levi was even more furious. "You two freeloaders are bad enough, and now you want to bring in an illiterate? You're making fools of us!"
"Just wait! I'm going to fire you both! Two useless people, get out of here!"
Eva nodded, "Exactly, this is clearly insulting us! How am I supposed to arrange a job for an illiterate person? Even our janitors who clean the bathrooms have high school diplomas!"
Levi said coldly, "Right! Fired! This time, nothing you say will make a difference!"
