Chapter 108

"I'll pick you up now, don't go anywhere, wait for me there!" Said Aiden who sounded like a possessive man who was too afraid of losing his girlfriend. 

Nina took a deep breath and exhaled slowly to stop herself from Aiden's restraining attitude like this. 

"Yeah, I'm not going anywhere. I'll be waiting for you!" 

"Okay, I'm leaving now!" 

"Yeah, be careful on the road okay honey?" She said while closing the call that she was making secretly. 

Nina doesn't want her other colleagues to know that she is in a relationship with a famous super model who is known to have a boyfriend, a beautiful designer. If they find out, she will definitely become gossip material that disrupts her peaceful life. 

"Nina, how about I take you home?" Jean, who came straight up to her to offer a lift. Although actually this is the mode he is used to every time he wants to approach a beautiful woman. 

"Nina, you better refuse! Don't let this crocodile get the chance to get close to you, you have to refuse it!" Said Kerry who returned with his argument. 

"Kerry, if you want a ride home, just say so! I'll take you too!" 

"I'm sorry, but I'm going home with Daniel. Thanks for the offer!" 

"Wow...well...you betrayed me, Kerry. I feel hurt!" 

"None of my business!" 

"You heartless cruel woman!" 

Nina who was in the middle of these two people could only laugh every time they started a commotion. If they were still in working hours, they would definitely become the target of the captain's anger. 

"But where is he?" She thought. She looked around, even today the captain was not there when the other employees were getting ready to go home. 

As Depney said, Gavin is always one of the first to arrive and the last to leave. Even though working hours are over, he never hesitates to take overtime to finish the work for tomorrow. 

"Nina, who are you going home with?" Asked Depney. 

"I was picked up by my friend-" she answered doubtfully. It seemed she would have to wait for all her comrades to leave before Aiden came to pick her up, if she wanted to avoid suspicion. 

"Okay, I'll go first then shall I see you tomorrow?" 

"Yes, be carefully on the street!" She said while waving. 

Nina was alone in her study. It's quiet, this place feels lonely when the others have gone home. She felt bad for waiting for Aiden in this place, but if she waited on the first floor, her colleagues who might still be there would definitely offer her a lift and she hesitated to refuse. So, waiting in the den is best. 

Knock...knock...blaaam... 

She heard footsteps and the sound of a door opening. She was shocked and immediately turned to the source of the sound. At the door, Gavin stood and looked at her with cold eyes and that flat face. Nina was a little scared, she spontaneously lowered her head because she was reluctant to look into those eyes any longer. 

"Why aren't you home yet?" Asked Gavin. 

"Um...that, I'm waiting for an invitation. Am I disturbing you?" 

"Fine, it's up to you!" He said as he stepped towards the dispenser while carrying his cup. 

This quiet atmosphere feels even more awkward when you're alone with someone like Gavin, who is known to be very difficult to approach. 

"I heard that the captain has been a thug for years and even became the leader of the thugs on the outskirts of town. Many have claimed to be victims of the robberies that he and his men did, until finally the captain and his group got into trouble with the famous mafia in this city. Captain assaulted that mob boss nearly to death, because of which he was jailed for several years." 

"R-really?" 

"I also heard that, but during the trial, there was a man who defended him and said that Gavin was not entirely guilty of the charge because what he did was only in self-defence. Because of that, he was acquitted of murder and only received punishment for the robbery that he do!" 

She remembered the conversation she, Depney and Bella had this afternoon. The reason why Gavin is so feared is because of his dark past as a former captain in the air force and turned into a dangerous criminal. But now, fate has brought her to this place and what makes Nina a little distrustful is the man who saved Gavin from severe punishment. That man is Victor Sanders, the president of this company. 

After Gavin filled his tea cup with hot water, he walked back to his study where he felt like working for hours in this place. 

"T-that's, uhm...Captain!" She exclaimed suddenly when Gavin opened the door to his office. 

Gavin stopped walking and rolled his eyes back in reaction to Nina's call. 

"What?" 

"Is there anything I can help you with? My friend is a bit late, so I'm idle now!" 

Gavin was silent for a moment and just stared at Nina with an uninterested expression which actually made her think that she had asked for something unnecessary. 

"Am I exaggerating, huh?" She thought with thoughts and guesses that haunted her. 

"You can help me make a report!" He said as he stepped. Nina who was surprised by the answer, was dumbfounded. 

"What are you doing? Come on in!" 

"O-okay...!" Nina immediately approached Gavin and followed him into the room. 

This is the first time she has entered the captain's office, this place is really clean, neat and smells good. Shr had never stepped into a workspace as neat as this. Gavin set his cup on the table and stood with his hips against the corner of the table. 

Gavin folded his arms forward and still didn't instruct anything to Nina who felt the awkward atmosphere even more than before. 

"Why are you standing there? Sit down quickly!" 

"Yes, Captain!" She said. She immediately continued Gavin's work, which seemed to be able to rest a little because someone offered to help him. 

Even though Nina was working, the atmosphere in the room was still very quiet. If only Aiden hadn't asked her to wait because she had to accompany her mother to the supermarket, Nina would have gone straight home instead of having to be stuck in an awkward situation like this. 

"Should I ask him to chat, huh?" She thought. Looks like she should have the initiative to break the ice. 

"Captain!" 

"Ha?" 

"T-that, how long has the captain been working here?" She asked who for some reason was the only question that crossed her head at this time. 

"Five years!" 

"I-is that so? Hehehe...does the captain have a girlfriend?" 

"Stupid! What did I ask?" She thought, feeling ashamed of herself for asking such a useless question. 

Gavin was silent for a moment while holding his teacup, between thinking about answering or even being surprised by the question.
