Chapter 104: The Call
*Renegades, we may have a problem. – Isiah*
Almost exactly an hour later, Tank, Ink, Law, Toad and the other officers sat in the conference room between the offices. The three closest to Evie looked nervous, possibly even a little worried. Several of the officers were not happy at being pulled in for a church meeting during the work day.
Although all of the businesses could run without them, they all preferred to be at the shop or on site. Buck enjoyed having a nice big office in a building overlooking the river. At least he planned to, once DS Holdings was completely moved into the new building.
The door opened and Celt and Werewolf entered. At the glares, Celt shrugged his shoulders. He looked completely out of place in his name brand suit. The other men all wore jeans, t-shirts or company polos and their cuts.
“Brennan texted me and asked that I come.” Celt explained.
“Same.” Werewolf agreed sitting down.
Just as Buck started to object, Ink’s phone rang. Quickly he answered it through the Bluetooth speaker Trevor had set up in the room.
“You got everyone there?” Isiah asked.
“We’re here.” Toad said. “I don’t like-"
“Shut the fuck up and listen. Joy may be heading your way.”
“What the fuck?” Ink demanded as Law yelled “How the hell?” Tank remained scarily quiet. When his phone rang and Dixie appeared on the screen, Ink reached over and answered it on speaker.
“Dixie.” Ink said as a greeting. “You’re on speaker.”
“Niño, listen to me. I know that darkness is pulling at you. Evie needs you. You hear me?”
There was a moment of silence before he quietly answered yes.
“Niño, talk to me.”
He closed his eyes and swallowed hard. “I can’t…”
“Lose her? I know. That’s why we’re on our way. Law, Cajuns are on their way. Zye and some others were on a run. They may be there before we are.”
“Who are the Cajuns? And why are you on your way?” Toad demanded.
“Niño? Are you with me?”
“Yeah, Dix, I’m with you.” Tank said fighting the darkness and fear inside him.
“Good. You call me if you need me. Isiah knows that darkness too.” You could hear her affection for him in her voice. “Love you, boys.”
“Love you, mom.” All three chimed just before the call ended.
“Now can I have answers?” Toad asked.
“The main reason Evie got the restraining order is because Joy threatened to kill her. She broke the order of protection in February, but because Evie no longer lives here and there was no physical aggression, judge gave her probation with an ankle monitor.” Isiah explained.
“She checked in yesterday and Craig thought something felt off about her. Dropped in at the church first thing this morning and David said that she stayed home. Craig went to the house and her car is gone, no one is answering but ankle monitor shows to be inside. And it is.”
“Taped to the damned Roomba. GPS tracker on the car has been turned off, phone was left at the house.”
“Fuck.” Law muttered.
“Agreed.” Isiah said. “Cajuns are our brothers in Louisiana. Cade’s uncle is the enforcer for the Baton Rouge chapter.”
“Friday is Daniel’s birthday.” Tank pointed out.
“Shit.” Isiah muttered. “She still at in-service?”
“Yeah. Athos is watching her.” Ink said then smirked at the look Tank gave him. “Figured it would be a little funny if he was the one watching her.”
“You’re mean.” Tank said.
“You two are just wrong.” Law laughed. “Creamy Evie is up to her shit again.”
“Good. At least I’m not walking in on it at the club.” Isiah laughed. "I sympathize with him."
Law pulled his phone out and answered it. “Yeah. Yeah, still on the phone with him. Okay. Well, fuck me. Yeah. Got it.” He ended the call and ran his hand through his hair that was now approaching shoulder length.
“Israel just heard from David. He got them to turn on GPS through the company. She’s about an hour ahead of ya’ll.”
“Fuck.” Ink said as Tank grabbed his phone and called his brother.
“Mark. Don’t let her out of your sight. When she’s done, bring her to the clubhouse. Yeah. Sure. Really? McDonald’s cheeseburger? Text me what you want, I’ll send Priscilla for it.” He grunted. "I know, at the pool."
“Our woman wants McDonald’s?” Ink asked and Tank nodded. “She wanted that yesterday too. Like was about to rip my head off for some fries.”
“Period cravings?” Werewolf suggested.
“Or stress from school starting. It's about the only time she has no problems eating.” Isiah suggested. “Joseph is signaling for a stop. Gotta go.” The line dropped and the speaker declared that the call ended.
“I’m going to go find Priscilla.” Tank said standing up as his phone chimed.
“Get your woman taken care of and then come back so we can figure out what we’re doing.”
He nodded at Toad and then left.
“Is he going to be okay?” Sledge asked after the door closed.
“I don’t know.” Ink admitted.
