Chapter 61: Veterans Day
*The one good thing about Mondays is that there is only one each week. – Tank*
Monday rolled around and Evie returned to school. When she was asked why she had been out all week, she simply said that it was due to family obligations. It was approaching Veteran’s Day and as always, she told her students to interview a veteran or a veterans’ family member. On Friday, they were to turn in their findings and discuss it. During her last class, she was looking through the papers and discovered one missing. One that was never missing.
“Miss Lowery, have you done your interview?”
“Not yet.” Priscilla answered from the back where her cousin sat playing with her hair.
“It’s due at the end of class today.”
“Yes, ma’am. How long did you serve?”
Evie smiled at the girl. “Two years with the Texas National Guard.”
“What was your rank?”
“Lieutenant. I was in intelligence. No, I cannot tell you a lot of what I did.”
“Would you go back?”
“In a heartbeat. But I have a medical discharge due to a back injury, so I don’t think that I’ll be getting that call.”
“Was your husband in?”
“Navy, shore patrol, AKA police.”
“Did you meet in service?”
“We actually grew up together. Graduated same year as my older brother. I had never paid any attention and then bam, hot guy alert while I was at my family’s bar. I had just moved home and was doing my first year of teaching. That night I was hanging out at the main bar." She fanned herself as if she was hot and the class laughed. "My brother came home, there was a big fight because I’m his favorite sister, I tell him this often, just in case he forgets. Our parents told my brother to get over it or go back to sea.”
“Did he get over it?” one of the other girls asked.
Evie smirked. “He’s a captain in the Coast Guard. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.”
There was another round of laughter. Her three man-child sex gods in the back of the room smiled broadly.
“Anyone else in your family serve in the military?” Athos asked.
“The parents were army. My oldest sister is a Marine. I have a sister in the navy and two in the air force. One is a pilot and the other a mechanical engineer, both have been assigned with NASA at different times.”
She continued to answer questions from the class for the rest of the period. Her alarm went off and they all started gathering their belongings to leave. After the bell to dismiss them, Priscilla hung back, telling her three protectors that she would be fine. Although they left the room, Evie was sure that at least one was still in the hall.
And one would have gone down the hall to walk Camille to her next class. Her three musketeers were very protective of the two girls. She knew that Priscilla was harassed because of her parents polygamous lifestyle. The other girl moved out of her families house and transferred schools because of issues with one of her sisters. Evie didn't know all the details, but knew that the boys had taken it upon themselves to protect them both. She was learning that it was a common trend with the Saints.
Protect those who are weaker.
Handing in a piece of paper with her questions and answers on it, Priscilla smiled at her teacher. “I heard Ink and Tank talking and I thought it was you.”
“What were you going to do if it wasn’t me?”
“I talked to Tank. I have his answers also.”
Evie shook her head. “You did good. Proud of you.”
“They’re good guys, Miss Reagan. Ink and Tank. They seem pretty taken with you.”
“You’re not bothered by a woman being with two men?”
Priscilla shook her head no. “I have five moms. My dad loves all his pretties.”
“And your three musketeers?” she asked the teen.
Shaking her head, she replied, “One is already claimed, even if she doesn't know it, one is a cousin and the other more like a brother. But it’s not something that I’m against. Would just have to be the right guys.”
“I get that. You better get to class, Miss Lowery.”
“Yes, ma’am.” she said leaving the room, being greeted by Aramis.
