Chapter 128: Bed Rest
*Is it possible to die of boredom? Contact the health department and the CDC. I may be the first recorded case. – Evie*
It had been expected. First full pregnancy. Twins. Gestational diabetes. And now her blood pressure was doing weird things.
When the doctor ordered bed rest, Evie had been prepared.
Lesson plans were ready to be emailed. Long term sub had already committed. Classes were warned ahead of time. Everything was set for the rest of the school year.
By day two, Evie was bored to tears. By day four, she had babysitters. Technically, they were nurses and old ladies that came to make sure she stayed off her feet and ate what she was supposed to. Which, in her book, was the equivalent of babysitters.
Especially since she was no longer allowed to eat a whole box of cookies by herself. Or a serving of fried potato slices. Certainly not a family order.
Becks and Siobhan started dropping by. As did other old ladies. With nothing else to do, Evie started decorating the nursery. When the furniture arrived, so did the prospects.
The nursery was repainted a pale blue with black accents. The furniture was all black lacquer with chrome hardware.
It was now a week before Christmas Eve and Evie lay on the couch with her feet up on the arm. She wasn’t awake and yet she couldn’t be classified as asleep either.
Revelry began barking causing both mother and babies to be startled. As they started moving around, Scruffles was disturbed from his favorite place to nap. On top of her belly.
“Sorry, Scruffles.” She mumbled as he jumped down and ran off towards the office and his bed.
“Don’t get up.” Ink told her coming down the stairs. “It’s just reinforcements.”
“You mean more people to make sure I’m bored.” She grumbled resting a hand over each baby.
Ink just grinned as he opened the door and stepped outside closing the door behind him. A moment later, he stepped back inside and approached his woman.
He knelt next to the couch and rested a hand on her large belly. “Do you need anything?”
“To see my feet.” She half stated and half asked.
“I assure you, little Eves, they are still there and the sexiest feet either of your men have ever seen.” An old man said looking over the back of the couch.
“Pop-pop!” Evie squealed trying to sit up. Ink helped her up from where he was while her grandfather helped from the other side.
“Careful, little Eves.” He said walking around and sitting beside her. She leaned into him and gave into the tears. “Now, let it all out.” He rubbed her back and kissed her hair.
“Dad, I told you that you were going to make her cry.” Seventeen-year-old Maya said sitting on the other side of Evie. “Dix, do you think she’ll fit in your dress?”
“I wore it at thirty-eight weeks. I think she’ll be fine.” Dixie said holding a white dress bag.
“And if not, you have me.” Kirsten said directing the dads, Roscoe and Reed where to put everything. “Now, if you have dicks, get the hell out.” She pointed at Evie. “You’re the one exception.”
“I have elephants.” Evie corrected.
“It looks like you have a fucking herd in there.” Kirsten laughed. “I think we’re going to start by making you a new corset. With support for your Dumbo and Jumbo.”
Ink lifted her shirt and placed kisses over both babies. “You two be good for mommy.”
At the sound of his voice, both babies moved excitedly.
“Wow!” Maya said watching the belly jump.
“They love their daddies.” Evie said smiling at Ink as he stood up. He leaned in and kissed her.
“And their daddies love them and their mommy.” He said caressing her cheek. “Stay off your feet as much as possible. Becks is on her way over.”
“Yes, Sir.” She said looking down.
“Pretty sure that’s what got you a herd of elephants.” Cera teased.
