Chapter 273: Church
*No, seriously, the slut himself hasn’t had a bunny in about two months. – Whip*
First thing Monday morning, Chance caught Rye in the back hallway of the daycare to make sure that they were good. Neither knew that they were being watched on the security system. Now not only did Karan and Werewolf watch them, so did Law and Tank.
“Rye,” he whispered as he pulled her into a hug, “I can’t live without you in my life. I need you.”
“I don’t know what we’re doing.” She admitted quietly.
“Neither do I, Duchess. I just know, I don’t want it to end.”
“Me neither.” Rye admitted quietly as she enjoyed the way this felt.
“You want to do lunch?” he asked her and pressed a light kiss to her hair.
“I need to call the new caseworker and let her know that I have a new house.”
“Okay.” He shifted them and tipped her face up and gently nibbled on her lips. “Let me know?”
“Yeah.” She breathed out as she pushed up on her toes to kiss him.
Karan sat in her office with the screen and audio on them as her phone began blowing up. She glanced at her screen and her group chat labeled DCSS was going crazy. She wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep their show a secret.
Later at lunch, Rye told Chance that she had given Mrs. Nguyen her address and made arrangements for the caseworker to come over to inspect it. The woman called back a few hours later and said that she had an opening that afternoon. After a quick text conversation with Karan, Rye left early. Chance texted Rye and asked that she let him know how it went.
She had not texted or returned by the time the day shift ended. Chance rolled by her house on his way to his clubhouse for church. Her car was not in the driveway, and he assumed that she was either at the grocery store or the hospital. He sent her a quick message to check in before he continued on his way.
Once at Pop’s Place, he called her but there was still no answer. Sending her another message asking her to call him, he followed the other Saints into the meeting room.
“When you going to bring that woman of yours around?” Repo asked slapping Chance on the back.
“Like I’d bring her around you assholes.” Chance grinned at his brother.
“I thought they were shitting me.” Dom said where she stood in a dark corner.
“Told you.” Whip smirked.
“Yes, as shocking as it is, Chance has a woman.” Trigg said sitting in his chair. “For those who might not have heard, that was singular.”
“Feeling the love, prez.” Chance grinned as his phone buzzed. He glanced and saw Karan’s name. As Trigg called the meeting to order, he sent Karan a message saying that he’d call her after church.
Almost immediately, his phone buzzed again. He killed the call without looking at it. After the third call that he got, Trigg gave him a warning glare and he turned the phone off.
When Celt’s phone buzzed, he turned it off giving Trigg a sheepish grin. A few other phones in the room buzzed or rang and at the angry look on Trigg’s face, they were turned off without being answered.
“It’s official, Camille will be going to LSU in fall.”
As he spoke, and he mistakenly thought that he had control of his club, his own phone rang. He killed the call from Toad twice before answering on the third.
“What the hell? You know it’s- yeah, he’s here.” A confused look came over his face as he turned to Chance. “Call Mark, it’s about your baby.”
Chance flipped over the phone and powered it up. It never seemed to take this long to power up. The silence in the room seemed to make the time crawl even slower. As soon as it finally came on, his screen was filled with notifications of missed calls and text messages. His hand was shaking as he tried to do his pattern. After two failed attempts, Celt took the phone and drew the pattern for him. Taking back his phone he clicked on the return call for Mark.
“Mark what the hell is going on?” he listened for a moment and his brothers moved away feeling the anger rolling off him. “What. Do you mean. They. Took. Michael?”
“They can’t just take a baby.” Mark’s calm voice could be heard over the phone, if not the words that he spoke. The calmness in his voice was from years of having to handle upset parents and scared children. Currently, the calmness seemed to aggravate Chance even more.
“No. She met with the caseworker today. Where is she? No, she wasn’t home earlier.” Chance ran a hand through his hair and let out a deep breath. The rubber band that had been holding his hair fell to the floor unnoticed. “Yeah, me too. No, I’ll call mom. Thanks.”
He scrubbed a hand down his face before he called his mom. “Hey. Yeah, Mark talked to me. I don’t know. I don’t know. Mom! I! Don’t! Know!”
Chance huffed out a breath. “I’m sorry. Her world revolves around five pounds and two ounces, and he just got taken away from her.”
“Chance?” Trigg said in the now quiet room. “Toad said that Rye-Anne is at the Shack.”
“It’s just Ryan or Rye. Mom, I’ve got to go. I will. Love you, too.” Ending the call, he stood up and pocketed the phone. “Sorry, Trigg, I’ve got…”
“Yup. Celt go with him.” Trigg said and the two men left. Dom started to follow them. “Where the fuck are you going?”
Stopping at the door, the tattooed woman with a teal Mohawk braided down to her back looked at Trigg like he was an idiot. “I want to see the woman that put a chastity belt on Just Take a Chance Lowery.”
After a moment of thought, Trigg admitted. “So do I. Anybody got anything that can’t wait?”
The men shook their heads no and as soon as Trigg ended the meeting, they all headed to the door and then the Shack.
