Chapter 172: Four Years
*I lost my husbands, my baby, my world. I’m scared that I’ll lose Tank and Ink also. – Evie*
Nessie had been in the kitchen trying out another recipe that she was planning on fixing for Thanksgiving. She started planning the meal around mid August. It had changed and morphed as recipes weren’t what she wanted and people requested different things.
“Green bean casserole? What the feck is that?” After it was explained, she looked at Jax, who was over from Pop’s Place, with a disgusted look and demanded; “Why the hell would yeh eat that?”
But several people requested it. She eventually relented and found a recipe. Then she tweaked it until she and her girls approved.
She did the same with several other recipes. Sweet potato casserole and pie. Stuffing.
Currently, she was trying her latest rendition of cranberry salad. Evie had come in to find something to eat and drop off the envelopes with the sex of her babies.
They talked for a while about how she had lost her first husbands four years ago that day. Evie questioned if she was reading more into the fact that it was that day that her men finally got to feel the babies moving. And it was also on the anniversary that they were able to get the sex.
Nessie looked at her palm and found herself confused. She went and got her aunt for a second opinion. Siobhan never had the gift, but had learned palms and cards. Many tourists assumed that everyone in Scotland could read palms. Siobhan often joked that she had the class between maths and reading. With a straight face, Nessie agreed and that it was part of the curriculum.
“Oh, yeh know. The four R's. Reading. Writing, not an R. Arithmetic, also not an R. Ripping idiots off.”
What Nessie saw with Evie left her confused. Siobhan wasn’t sure what she was supposed to know if someone with the gift couldn’t read it.
The duo then looked at Tank and Ink’s hands. Still confused, they took pictures with Siobhan’s phone and sent them to her mom. Grams had called and explained it.
Now Nessie sat in the new room upstairs, on the new couch in front of the new table, laying out new cards. Siobhan had picked them up from the Wiccan bookstore since it still creeped Toad out.
Knuckles came in and sat on the couch. He slid a leg around her until he was behind her.
“Hello, beautiful.” He said kissing her neck. She murmured a response and leaned against his chest. “What do you see?”
“Nothing new.” She answered as the cats got off their perch in the corner and came to lay next to Knuckles. “Have yeh ever been to Scotland?”
“Never even been outside the United States. And Canada is only a few hours away.” He admitted.
“Ever flown?”
“Nope. Are we going to go?”
“Spring. I’ll go when Grams dies. I’d like yeh with me.”
“Would love to.” He wrapped an arm around her as she turned sideways and leaned against his chest.
“I want yeh. Not just to go home with me. I want yeh in me.” She buried her face in his neck.
“When you’re ready.” He whispered. “Don’t make a choice you’ll regret.”
“Why don’t yeh go to one of the club girls? Yeh hand can’t be doing everything for yeh.”
He slid his hand into her hair and then pulled her head back so that he could meet her eyes.
“No. I’m not going to fuck another woman and then come to your bed.” He told her firmly, but gently.
“Even if I tell yeh, that yeh can?”
“Even if you invite one into your bed. Or send one to me.”
“Yeh used to seek them out.”
“I won’t lie to you and deny that. I’ve probably fucked my way through all the girls at all of the damned clubhouses. But that’s not me anymore.” Knuckles brought her lips to hers and kissed her lightly.
“This,” he said against her lips, “is what I want. If you want something else, tell me. But you’re all I need.”
He tasted her tears as he kissed her again. She wrapped her arms around his neck and then moved so that she straddled his hips. Nessie pressed her body against his, grinding against him. He moved to place kisses on her neck.
“You push my limits, babe. But I’ll wait until you’re ready. I don’t need one of your thirteen brothers or twenty-seven cousins coming after me.” He nipped her neck. “I sure as hell don’t need your uncle or the club taking care of me. I know what they would do to me.”
“What would they do to yeh?”
