Chapter 112: Released

*Oh, we love Dr. Barkley. He’s delivered all our babies since Dr. Coggins retired. – Becks*

After four days, Evie was released from the hospital under light duty. Even the nurse was having a hard time not laughing as she read the instructions and restrictions.

Neither of her men were letting her do much. They were still feeding her the meals. They gave her sponge baths. When she had to get out of bed for the sheets to be changed, they scooped her up before she could get up on her own.

If it was something that they could do, the nursing staff learned to simply get out of their way.

The two large bikers pampered their woman. They even arranged for someone to come in and give her a manicure and pedicure because she missed her weekly appointment. Then, because Evie said every woman, especially new moms, needed a little pampering, all the new moms got them also.

And the nursing staff all got gift certificates.

She was spoiled. She knew it. And she was okay with it. Her men were well aware of it and had no problems spoiling her. Her family enjoyed seeing her happy.

And the Saints liked to give the men hell.

Of course, the majority of them also had women that were spoiled.

When they left the hospital, Evie was rolled out in her wheelchair to her Corvette. Lined up before and behind the red sports car were two rows of bikers. Saints, Renegades, Cajuns and even a sprinkling of Eagles.

Dutifully, Evie got into the car as the nurse instructed. But as soon as he stepped away, she slid out and walked over to Darkness. He carefully hugged her and kissed her temple. He had been a close friend of Cade’s as a boy and hers after she lost her husbands.

“Hello, Darkness.” Evie whispered.

“My old friend.” He whispered back cupping her cheek and tilting her face to him. “You found your way out of the dark.”

“I did.” She turned and smiled at her men. “I found my darkness and my color.”

“And you are their light.” Darkness surmised.

“Yeah.” She half turned back to him. “I hope that you find light again.”

“When it’s time for my star to shine, it will guide me home.” He smiled at her. “Wherever home is. Go to your men, little light.”

There was something in the way he said that which caused her to wonder if he had found his light. His voice and touch were both lighter than usual. Plus, he typically called her 'little light of mine' and this time, she was just a little light. This was something she would think about later.

She grinned and said something in creole French and the four Cajuns laughed as her parents shook their heads. Evie went back to where her men were waiting somewhat patiently. Rising up on her toes, she kissed each of them before sliding back into her Corvette. Ink reached over and fastened her seat belt.

The door closed softly behind her and she sighed in relief. She was glad to be going home. It had only been a few days, but that was long enough.

“Are you my chauffeur?” Evie asked Athos who was sitting in the driver’s seat.

“Until my brother and Werewolf say otherwise, I am at your disposal.” He grinned turning the engine over. “Fucking sweet ass ride.”

“I can tell that you’re going to suffer having to drive my ‘vette.” She laughed.

“Horribly.” He agreed as their procession began to move. “I mean, passenger is supposed to be in charge of music. You are in no condition to handle the radio.”

Giving a dramatic sigh, he pulled out onto the road. “I’ll have to drive and manage the music.”

“Radio controls are on the steering wheel.”

“Woman! I am suffering here!” he exclaimed as he began to use the wheel controls to change the radio. “You have Bluetooth! Can I connect?”

“Not while you’re suffering. Or driving.” She quickly amended herself and he pouted.

“Fine. But when we get to the Shack, I’m not going to be suffering anymore.”

“Or driving.”

“Exactly.”
