Chapter 231: No Thanks
*I told you before, I don’t want or need your help. Thanks. But no thanks. – Rye*
Karan took another bite of her apple as she scanned over her paper. The alarm chirped notifying her that the back employee entrance had opened. Glancing over at the screen on her wall and saw Rye enter the door held open by Chance.
Forgetting her paper, she turned and watched the daily lunch time show. Reaching for the remote, she started to unmute the TV. Setting it back down, she decided that the silent movie was better.
Eating her apple and drinking her lemon water, Cookie better realize the sacrifice she was making for their wedding, Karan watched the couple. What they could argue about every damned day, Karan didn’t know.
What she did know was that at this point it was a choice. Rye had a set lunch time. Chance did not. The fact that he still continued to come back from lunch the same time she did, spoke volumes.
What it said was that it was his choice. He wanted this daily interaction.
What was it about this woman that intrigued him? And irritated him? Maybe it was because she was not falling for his charm. Rye was immune to him, and no one seemed to know why. Or even how.
Chance said something as the door closed behind him. The alarm notified Karan that the door was once again secured. Rae turned sharply on her heel and said something back.
Movement caught Karan’s attention and she watched Werewolf pull her pink paisley chair over so he could sit down and watch the show too.
“Come on, baby. I could rock your world.” He said trying to imitate his brother.
Karan laughed and nearly choked on her apple.
“Keep your STD riddled hands away from me.” She said as Rye got in Chance’s face on the screen.
“Whatever.” Werewolf scoffed as they watched his brother give a wide arc with his hands. “I always use condoms.”
“On your hands?” Karan asked as Rye poked Chance on his chest.
“Well, I wash them really good.” Werewolf replied as Chance rubbed his chest. “And that hurt.”
“It’s going to hurt more if you don’t leave me alone.” Karan said as Rye turned away from Chance.
“Come back!” Werewolf said for Chance as he followed Rye into the hallway. “I just picked up a new prescription for penicillin.”
Karan laughed at him as the movement on the screen moved from one box to another.
The two people in the office focused on the little square showing the back hallway. Rye turned and shook her finger in Chance’s face.
“Don’t follow me, you twerp.”
“Twerp?” Werewolf asked in his regular voice.
Karan shrugged. “That girl doesn’t swear and blushes at everything.”
“Alright.” He said and then returned to his Chance voice. “My office is this way. I’m not following you.”
“Then quit looking at my bottom!” Karan demanded as Rye turned back around and left the hallway.
“I was not looking at your ass!” Werewolf said as his brother stormed out of the screen.
“He was so totally checking out her ass.” Karan laughed as she grabbed the remote and switched to the bottom stairwell camera.
Rye was halfway up the first part of the stairs as Chance paused at the bottom. He obviously checked out her ass before continuing.
Both Werewolf and Karan were laughing as she pulled up the outside cameras. The reason that he came today was to make sure there were no outside blind spots.
Karan glanced out to the empty common room and watched her friend stomp across the floor.
“You ever see him like this over a woman?” Karan asked quietly.
“Never.” Werewolf confirmed as he shook his head. “What about you?”
“No. But I’ve never seen a woman reject him either. He turns on the charm and she turns on the bitch.”
The man in question stormed through his office and across the reception area. “That damned woman is infuriating!”
“Who’s infuriating?” Werewolf asked innocently.
He had not actually met Rye yet. Suddenly, he wanted to.
*”Rye.”* Chance snarled.
“I don’t think I’ve met her.” His brother replied.
“She’s wretched! I hold the door open for her and she tells me that she doesn’t need any help from the likes of me.” He ran his hand through his hair, pulling it out of his ponytail. “Just opening the fucking door for her!" he huffed and then snarled Rye's Comment. "Thanks, but no thanks”
“She’s actually the sweetest person you’ll ever meet.” Karan smiled and then turned back to the cameras. “The concern that I had was over here at the outdoor playground.”
Chance huffed and returned to his office. Ozzy Osborne began to ride the crazy train in the office opposite Karan.
“At least he’s on the right train.” Werewolf muttered and Karan offered him a high five.
“I wish I knew what it was between them.” Karan admitted as she reached for her lemon water.
“Cookie still have you on a diet?” he asked sympathetically.
“Yes. Ugh. I really would prefer Vegas and for us to go fuck the bridesmaid and maybe the best man afterwards.”
“He just wants to marry you. You could probably talk him into it.”
“I know.” She sighed and looked towards the other office. “Camille and Priss found Nessie’s hidden library.”
“The one hidden on the bookshelves in her office?” Werewolf asked with a grin.
“That’s the one. Has some really good ideas in some of those books.” She grinned at him.
“I’m assuming neither of their dads know that they are reading soft porn?”
“Soft? Ha! Charlotte is not reading the good books.” Karan laughed. “Anyway, those two are convinced that Rye and Chance would be a perfect hate to love romance.”
“What do you think?”
“That those two are more likely to catch a murder charge rather than feelings for each other.”
“Who should we provide an alibi for?”
“Rye. She has a baby. Chance just has bitches.”
