Chapter 53.
Peppers POV.
“Hello.” I say weakly as I feel my voice crack.
“You hid from me.” He states firmly not asking it as a question and I slowly nod looking to the ground.

“I want to know why?” The man asks and I take a deep breath.
“I didn’t pick up on your scent, I was scared you were an intruder.” I say softly as the man snickers and I feel shame wash off of me.
“You didn’t pick up on your own mates scent.” He says almost amused.
“I’m not a wolf.” I say under my breath now getting annoyed, great my mate is a jerk.
“Neither am I.” I look up to see a devilish grin across his face.

My heart begins to race again as I go to speak but nothing comes out.
“Whats wrong little witch, cat got your tongue?” He asks snickering once again, ok so he knows what I am at least.
“What are you?” I finally ask and I hold my breath waiting for an answer, the tall man smiles before taking a step back and allowing his body to shift. I flinch and look away as his bones break and reform in to a huge strong beast standing on two feet, he’s a Lycan. I gasp stepping back a few times as I struggle to hold myself up.

I thought the lycan were extinct, there hasn’t been any reports of them in decades. Oh my goddess how have I been mated to one, I swallow hard as the huge beast walks towards me on his back 2 legs making me hold my breath. My mind spins trying to take in all the information, just as I begin to breath again the beast steps back and I hear the popping and snapping of his bones once again making me flinch, I feel tears rim behind my eyes as I sit speechless waiting for him to return to his human form.

Within a few moments this almost 7 foot man stands stark naked in front of me in all his glory, I feel my face heat and I know my cheeks just got bright red. He chuckles again before sitting down next to me.
“We don’t need to stay here, the crystal lake is just down the path.” I say softly as he jumps up offering me his hand.
“Well then we’re off to the crystal lake.” He says as I take his hand and he swiftly pulls me up, I pull my hood down from my cape as we walk to the lake.

“I didn’t think Lycans still existed.” I say making him laugh once again.
“Well there are only a few Lycan family’s left but we all went in to hiding, we didn’t like the way the wolves lived their lives.” He starts explaining.
“I just took over power from my father and have heard rumours of the prophecy, I decided to come and see for myself.” He continues as I listen silently.
“Are you meeting with my Alpha?” I ask softly cutting him off.
“Yes, he knows I’m coming but I didn’t give him details.” He says as we reach the crystal lake and I take my shoes off sitting to put my feet in the water.

“What’s your name?” I ask as I unbutton my cape letting it lay around me on the ground, maybe having a mate won’t be awful, that is as long as he’s not an ass.
“King Linus the second, and do you think I’m an ass?.” He answers with a chuckle and my mouth drops.
“King?” I ask repeating what he said.
“Wait how did you know what I was thinking?” My mind goes to shock as I stair at him waiting for his answer.

“Yes, with there only being a few Lycan family’s left we have one ruler a king.” He says and I nod putting my head down to think.
“And Lycans can read minds so I can her what your thinking, so I’ll ask again do you think I’m an ass?” He says with a smile and I look away.
“When will you be meeting with my Alpha?” I ask Turning to peek at him.
“Soon I should be meeting him in the next hour or so.” He answers and I nod.
“And I don’t know yet.” I say keeping my head down answering his question finally and I hear him chuckle again.

“Why don’t you tell me about yourself.” He asks making me feel nervous.
“Um there not really anything to tell, I have a twin sister named Poppy and you already know I’m a witch, I live in a pack of wolves and vampires and live as I please.” I answer shrugging my shoulders and he laughs.
“Whats so funny?” I ask feeling confused.
“Well I know your sisters name now but not yours.” He says and I feel myself blush.
“Oh that’s right I’m sorry my name is Pepper.” I say putting my head down.

“That’s a beautiful name.” He answers as we sit quietly watching the beautiful water ripple with the wind.
“What are your expectations here?” I ask bluntly after a few moments.
“Expectations? What do you mean?” He asks in confusion as my face drops once again.
“What are you wanting from me, what is your plan now that you’ve found me.” I ask again feeling anxious for an answer.
“Well you are my mate, I will ask your Alpha to allow you to come home with me.” He states effortlessly making my heart drop and I feel sick.

“I can’t, I can’t do that. I’m sorry.” I say before standing quickly to leave and he grabs my arm stopping me abruptly.
“What? Why not?” He asks and I feel fear radiate off of him.
“I can’t leave my sister or my pack.” I say firmly letting him know I’m not willing to waver on this.
“Ok well we can figure something else out I’m sure, let’s go speak with your Alpha first.” He answers and I take a deep breath before nodding slowly and we turn back towards the pack and start our walk.

We make it to the pack house as the members jut begin to wake up and leave their houses to start their days, I ca feel my heart pounding in my chest and it feels like everyone is staring at me. The pounding keeps rhythm with each step up to the Alpha house, it’s still early so he’s probably at his home office. King Linus knocks on the solid wood door as the sound rumbles through the forest around us.
“Oh hey Pepper.” Valerie says opening the door before stopping and inhaling hard.
“Lycan.” Her face turns as she steps back.

“Hello we are here to speak with the Alpha.” King Linus says as his voice radiates power, Valerie eyes him for a minute ad her eyes gloss over as she mind links Evan.
“Follow me.” She state firmly and I know shes on edge, we follow her up to the home office I’ve been in many times before and we take a seat at the desk.
“He will be in shortly.” She says closing the door behind her and I exhale deeply feeling my body melt in to the chair waiting to disappear.
