Chapter 59

Chapter 59

Surprisingly to me, Twila was headed out for a day with Sienna. Sienna asked her if she wanted to hang out today and Twila said yes. Bradyn and I were on the fence about this idea. It's not like they couldn't hang out, but the argument that ensued before didn't make this ideal. If they were willing to work on their friendship, that's great. Sienna knew how Twila felt though, and I didn't want Twila getting her hopes up for nothing.

However, Twila seemed confident and excited. They haven't exactly been on the best of terms since being here. This was her opportunity to patch things up and she wasn't going to miss it for the world. She brushed her gorgeous black curls up into a bun, getting all decked out in make-up and one of her best dresses. This meant a lot to Twila and I can tell just by how she was getting herself ready.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" We both asked her. We were not confident that she was making the right decision.

Twila looked herself over in the mirror, before turning her attention towards us. "What's the big deal? It's just friends hanging out with friends." She was nonchalant, about the ordeal.

We were letting up, though. "You guys just had a big argument. I don't think hanging out is the solution to your problems." I tried to explain it reasonably so not to upset her.

"On top of that, she said some pretty rude things to you, Twy," Bradyn added on to my point.

It didn't seem like we were getting through to her. We were aggravating her more if nothing else. When this was coming from a place of care. We wanted her to be happy and hanging out with Sienna didn't seem like a good way to move on. On top of that, as Bradyn said, Sienna said some pretty compelling things about Twila. If it were me, I wouldn't want to be associated with someone who slandered me in front of others. It was strange.

She rolled her eyes, not pleased with our comments. "You guys are thinking way too deep into this. It's a harmless outing nothing more."

I stood up, walking over to hug her. "I guess so, I just don't want you to get hurt that's all," I explained.

Feeling her smile, she hugged me back, understanding. "I appreciate it."

"Be careful and have fun," Bradyn said, hugging her as well.

Twila took a deep breath before walking out the door. I didn't want to let her go but didn't have a choice in the matter. It's not like I was her parent making decisions for her. That was up to her to decide if it was worth dealing with Sienna again. Personally, going to be buddies so soon after a huge argument was crazy to me. However, it made sense being how their relationship sounded toxic.

After she left, Bradyn and I were left to figure out what we wanted to do. Tomorrow night was the dinner so we wanted to do something fun. Bradyn suggested we go to the fair that was on the broad walk. To me, it was a great idea and it's likely to not be as many people there during the day. We could practically get on any ride and not have to wait in long lines for the snacks that would be there.

Quickly, we got dressed, me in denim shorts and a short-sleeved crop top, and Bradyn in one of her many dresses. It was a short walk from the Hadid's vacation house to the broad walk, which was fine by us. Before we could make it out the door, though, we were greeted by Jay and Cyrus standing outside. Jay wouldn't look my way for the life of him and it bugged me. He was still mad about yesterday, but there wasn't anything to be done about it. It didn't make it any less frustrating that he wouldn't even glance at me.

Cyrus smiled greeting both of us in his charming way. "Hey, you guys headed somewhere?" He asked, intrigued, to know.

"We're down to the broad walk for the fair," Bradyn responded. "Want to come?"

I was hoping she wouldn't say that, but how could she not? They were right there and we were going. There was no sense in not inviting them along. It would be fun to have more company. Although Jay wasn't talking to me like I wanted him to. Still, she invited them and of course, they said yes. Well, Cyrus said yes; Jay sort of agreed just because he didn't want to be left. It made things somewhat awkward, but we walked together anyway. Bradyn and Jay walked ahead of Cyrus and me, having a good conversation, it seemed as Bradyn was laughing a lot. I don't know why, but I got this strange feeling in my stomach trying not to let it show on my face. What was he doing? Was he trying to get to me on purpose?

"Hello, earth to Autumn!" Cyrus yelled in my direction.

I snapped out of my thoughts, looking at him. "Sorry, what was that?" I was so caught up with Jay I forgot about Cyrus talking to me.

He chuckled, not noticing anything. "I said how has your day been so far?" He asked again.

"It's been ok just very slow for some reason." I smiled, still watching Jay closely from the side of my eye. "I'm excited about the fair though!" I changed the subject.

His eyes perked up. "You're so going to love it!" And he didn't lie.

The place wasn't packed as I expected and we got to try everything we wanted to in a timely order. There weren't many rides there aside from a giant Ferris wheel that we all rode together. Jay continued to ignore me, only talking to Bradyn and sometimes Cyrus. He was in his feelings, which was whatever. I hated the whole ordeal and he wasn't making things better by being petty. This was the asshole he loved to call himself coming into play.

When we were done on the Ferris wheel, we got in line for my favorite thing in the whole world. Kettle corn! Its sweet yet savory taste was music to my already watering mouth. Cyrus brought my bag for me even though he didn't have to, while Jay got some for him and Bradyn. It was strange that he was buying stuff for her, but I wasn't going to let him get to me.

Opening the bag, Cyrus watched me in amusement as I took in every piece of popcorn. If I had a choice, I would marry this shit. It was a top-tier snack that I simply couldn't get enough of.

"You love this stuff," Cyrus commented, enjoying some himself.

"Do you not? How could you not?" I questioned. "It's the perfect snack."

Cyrus laughed. "Can't argue with you there." He put some more in his mouth. "I'm just glad it wasn't packed in here today."

I nod in agreement. "Right, we did everything promptly, I believe."

"Speaking of which, you want to go on a boat ride with me?" He asked, catching me off guard.

A boat ride didn't sound too bad. The sun was setting and a boat ride would top the evening off perfectly. Though it was pedal boating and cost five bucks just get on the damn thing. Cyrus, of course, paid again being the gentlemen he was. He even helped get my life jacket on as we got in one of the swan-shaped boats.

Jay and Bradyn decided to do one as well. Even after the day we had, Jay still wasn’t giving me any time of day. No looks my way, none of his horrible flirting. Just nothing leaving me high and dry. He was pissed at me and it didn’t feel like we would get any closure anytime soon. At the rate this was going, our days having each other were over.

I didn’t worry about it, at least I told myself I wouldn’t, as I grabbed Cyrus’ hand enjoying our time. The sunset looked beautiful as we pedaled around the stream. Being here with him made me feel warm inside. Even when I wanted to be peeved I couldn’t with him around. It was nearly impossible.

“Spending time with you is something I can’t wait to do every day.” He looked at me joyful.

I fake pour because what he said was so sweet. “You’re going to make me cry.” I squeezed his hand in excitement. “So your choice is final then?”

He nodded as we stopped pedaling for a minute. “As final as it’ll ever be.”

“Even if your mom tries to convince you?” I wanted to be sure. It was the only way I could come to terms with Jay.

He was tired of my questioning but answered anyway. “Yes women, my decision is final. I’m not losing you because my mother is a psycho obsessed with status.”

I smiled slightly to myself. “That’s one terrifying lady.” I cringe in my seat.

Cyrus laughed, somewhat agreeing with me. It was funny that he’d acknowledge his mom's flaws. Most kids wouldn’t do that including me. Though my mom and I communicated any frustrations we had with one another. Always listening and always understanding. Farah didn’t look like she would take the time to listen to her children. Even if they were right she didn’t care. Very my way or the highway vibes from her.

Cyrus shook his head. “Trust me, come next week she’ll have no choice but to change unless she wants to lose a son.” His threat sounded serious. Did I just ruin people's relationships with each other?

“I don’t want that, but I’m glad you’re standing your ground,” I said.

“As I said, you’re important to me, Autumn. I’m not giving you up.” He reassured me pecking my lips lightly.

Before I could respond sweetly, our boat was being tipped over. The cold water hit our bodies as we came back up to the surface. Jay and Bradyn were laughing hysterically already in the water as well. They thought this was so hilarious but I put a stop to that splashing a mountain of water onto Bradyn. Cyrus got Jay and we played around like that for a little while before returning the boats.

It wasn’t fun walking home in soaking wet clothes. It was a fun day though. Instead of walking with Cyrus, I walked with Bradyn back to the house hand in hand. We were both ready to get out of these clothes and take another shower after being in the water. The dinner was also tomorrow meaning we’d have to wash our hair too. My main concern was sitting at a table with Farah. Last time that didn’t bode well for me and it’ll be even more embarrassing with everyone there. If Cyrus stuck to his words then this will be the last obstacle I had to face with Farah.

But life can’t always be that simple.
