Chapter 67

Chapter 67

The next morning, the sun shone on my face as I woke up with a bit of a groan. Stretching out, my foot knocked into something that was followed by a shatter. I jumped up quickly investigating the scene only to be left with a surprise that was sort of ruined. On the bed, there were pancakes, bacon, and eggs sitting with a glass of orange juice spilled on the floor. The glass completely broke and I felt like an asshole now that it just happened.

I quickly got out of the bed running over to attempt to pick up the glass. Of course, my finger got cut in the process making me drop the glass all over again. I was not lucky this morning and even though it was ruined, the gesture was lovely. Too bad I'm a clumsy bitch.

"Shit!" I yelled sucking the blood out of my fingers.

Just then, the door opened as Cyrus walked in with a few things in his hand. Looking at me, he finally spotted the glass broken on the floor and rushed over. Luckily he had napkins to wipe up the spill. The floor was going to be a bit sticky but that could be fixed relatively quickly. That didn't matter because I ruined his surprise!

"Are you ok?" He asked me gathering everything in one spot.

I nod still sucking on my finger. "Yeah but I cut my finger a little," I show him. "It's no big deal though."

Cyrus grabbed my hand to examine it himself. "I guess it's not. You didn't get any glass stuck inside did you?" So many questions.

"I'm fine I feel bad that I ruined your surprise," I sighed.

He smiled helping me stand up. "Don't even worry about it, I was hoping we could eat together anyway."

Grabbing a blanket out of his closet, we spread it out in front of his huge window grabbing our plates. He shared his drink with me since I spilled mine and we had a nice breakfast together. The view from his room was always amazing to me. Looking out of the window left me in awe. Getting to see this every day would never get old.

After we finished eating, Cyrus moved our plates to one side scooting over to me. He pulled me into him as we both took in the scenery. It was breathtaking and there was no better way to be spending it than wrapped in his arms. Even though he pretty much swallowed me. This was nice.

Squeezing me one last time, Cyrus finally spoke again hitting me with something I wasn't expecting him to say.

"Jay finally got back to me," he says in a tone I couldn't quite describe.

My eyes widen in surprise. "Did he?"

He nods. "Yeah, he's fine if you were wondering."

It was nice to know that he was ok but I didn't want to show too much emotion over it. He still didn't know about what Jay and I were up to in his absence. Showing even the tiniest bit of emotion would cause alarm. That was his best friend the only one that should be concerned was him honestly. Though there was this sense of relief that he was ok, however, anger that he wasn't talking to me. Not that we had a way to communicate anyway. It would have been nice to hear from him even just to hear his voice again. That fucker!

I smile not sure of what to do or say. "That's good," I kept it simple.

"You know he asked about you," way to raise suspicion, Jay.

I shrugged, "wonder why, we were always fighting."

Cyrus laughed. "You're a great person, A, people gravitate towards you."

He did have a point there. "I guess so. I'm glad he got back to you though. I know you're worried."

There wasn't anything else for me to say. Unless I wanted someone to get angry at me the conversation needed to be stirred off anything with me. If we focused on why he asked about me things might come out that we didn't need to right now. Fortunately for me, Cyrus was a bit oblivious to most things around me. I'm not sure if that was a good thing or not but in this case, it was pretty darn good.

At least that's what I thought. The conversation didn't end there, sparking a mini argument.

"Though it did feel a little strange that he immediately asked about you," I can feel him clenching his teeth.

My heart rate picked up but kept myself as composed as I could. "I'm not sure why. I mean we did form a friendship after finding common ground."

Cyrus wasn't buying that. "Jay doesn't just ask about anyone, Autumn."

My defenses kicked in doing more harm than good but what was I supposed to do? Just let him accuse me of things without denying them? If he found out what was going on there's no doubt he would hate me for the rest of his life. I would be the one who broke his heart when that wasn't my intention. Truly there were feelings there for both of them. Unfortunately, making it hard to choose who to be with. Though, Jay's disappearance made it easier my mind still wondered about him.

I scoffed. "We had things to relate to each other about, building a weird closeness."

"How close are we talking?" He looked at me ready to argue.

The conversation was going nowhere and quite frankly there was no other way to tell him this. There are only so many ways you can tell someone you're just friends. Did I need to write a book for him to get it? Jay and I were nothing more at this point. He was gone, Cyrus had me. My attention was fully on him from this moment on. It's almost like a fever dream of what happened with Jay. A stupid fever dream.

Sighing, I raked my fingers through my hair getting frustrated with him. "Close like you and him close," I say over it. "Friends!"

Cyrus didn't respond to me instead staring intently in my direction. He never questioned anything between Jay and me before really. Aside from the time he got upset when he picked me up. However, that was a misunderstanding though nothing went down before then. Things were overly complicated but my mind was made up. Cyrus was the one I chose. We've been here since the start. Things couldn't end this way, right? We were better than that, better than this! Cyrus was my one and it was going to stay that way.

Before he could answer me, there was a knock at his door startling both of us. The only person it could be was his mom. She was always checking up on him at the most unconventional times. How the heck was I supposed to hide in such short notice?

Panicking, Cyrus looked around before coming up with a plan. A shitty plan at that.

"Get under the bed," he whispered.

"What? Are you crazy there's barely room under there!" I whispered and yelled as another knock was at the door.

Cyrus rolled his eyes not amused. "We don't have time for this, Autumn, please just go!"

Groaning, I slipped under the bed as quickly as possible before Cyrus got up to open the door. He took a deep breath and as the door opened his voice sounded shocked.

"Dad?"

Dad? Was that Cairo at the door? Of all people neither of us expected him to be knocking on the door. Throughout my whole journey here, Cairo popped up twice. The man was always busy that I forgot he was even around. The question is what was he doing here? It must’ve been important for him to show up at Cyrus’ door randomly like that.

I couldn’t see much but I could tell Cyrus let him on closing the door behind them. It was quiet for a second before Cairo spoke again making my heart drop. The man was great at reading the room. We also didn’t do a good job at cleaning up our mess before I was forced under the bed.

“Is she here?” He asked Cyrus startling the both of us.

Cyrus’ voice cracked as he spoke. “What do you mean? No one’s here,” he lied, or at least tried to.

“Son, I’m not an idiot. Where is she?” He asked again.

Cyrus sighed not strong enough to lie to his father again. “Come on out,” he called out to me.

I wasn’t sure if it were ok for me to show myself to him. Cyrus said it was ok and Cairo did ask where I was. Despite what Farah felt, Cairo didn’t let her influence him. His decisions were made up of his own opinions and good opinions at that. This man wasn’t here to judge me or Cyrus. Cairo was here to support us and only us. Making me feel more comfortable in the process.

Gathering up the courage, I rolled from under the bed and slowly sat up to look at him. I gave him a small wave afraid of what he was going to say. Luckily, Cairo formed a smirk on his face that he tried to conceal but it didn’t go unnoticed. Unlike Farah, Cairo liked me and that was all I needed. His approval was what was going to make our last few days here worthwhile.

“You made your decision?” He looked back at Cyrus with his serious face again.

Cyrus nodded, “yes I have.”

Even after our little argument, he was still set on choosing me as his partner. If there were things he only knew I wouldn’t be in the great position I was in. There was guilt and will always be however, I’m taking it for what it is. Cyrus was mine and for the first time, he confirmed it with one of his parents. This was huge!

Cairo gave a nod before heading towards the door. Cyrus stopped him before he could leave though.

“Are you upset?” He asked him the nervousness etched in his voice.

Cairo looked at me, back at Cyrus, to the ground before smiling brightly. “Of course, not son, I couldn’t be prouder. You’ve made the right decision.”

With that, he left leaving me to smile happily to myself. It’s like he wanted him to choose me all along. Oh, Farah would not like that but for me, it was great!
