Trying To Decide
*She nodded. “There is a chance, but I cannot tell you how to get this future.”*
*I stuck my hands in my pockets as I walked back down to her. “Show me the last one. I need to know what I’m up against.”*
*“As you wish.”*
*The scene changed again and I found myself back in a strange forest. I peered around the darkness looking for Gerald, knowing that this was going to be bad. There was no way that two of three visions were going to be good. A loud roar had me running through the trees, following the screaming of bears. I darted through some trees into a clearing where almost a dozen bears were all fighting the same bear. I raised my head into the air, sniffing intently. I walked around the fray, watching the bear in the middle, completely shocked that he was able to hold off my parents, Elena, Beanie, and Godric by himself.*
*Even though I didn’t recognize the bear by sight or smell, I knew that it was Gerald. I cursed under my breath as he threw Elena against a tree. Godric took the opportunity to roll him, landing on top of a struggling Gerald. Energy surged around them as all of the other bears poured their auras into Godric. Gerald shifted back, but Godric didn’t let him up. I watched in awe as vines came up from under Gerald to cocoon him. Once he was fully wrapped up, Godric backed off of him, growling lightly before shifting back. The vines forced Gerald up to his knees with his limbs tightly held together.*
*The vision me walked up to him, shaking his arm as if he was trying to force Godric to pull back entirely, which I had no doubt he was. I had been having a hard time restraining Godric myself and the vision seemed like something horrible had happened. The vision me stopped in front of Gerald as everyone else shifted back, panting and checking on each other. The vision me flexed his muscles before forcing Gerald’s head back.*
*“You took her from us,” he growled. “And she’s never coming back. Out of all of your crimes, that is the one that I hate the most. She did nothing but love you. You used her, betrayed her, and then killed her. She begged us, even after everything you did to her, she begged us to spare you. Her dying breath was wasted on her compassion and love for you. You didn’t deserve her. You didn’t deserve either of them. And I’m here to make sure that you are punished here on earth before you are sent to the Goddess to also be punished by her.”*
*Gerald spit in his face before laughing. “Go ahead, brother. Send me to the Goddess. She’ll just be there waiting for me. She is mine! She was always mine! And she will always be mine!”*
*The vision me smirked at him as his arm and hand shifted to Godric’s. “You’ll have to let me know when I join you in the afterlife.”*
*With one swipe of his sharp, deadly claws, Gerald’s head rolled off his shoulders, coming to a stop directly in front of my feet. I gazed down at the now lifeless eyes of my younger brother for a moment before raising my eyes back to the vision me, who was smearing Gerald’s blood all over himself.*
*“I told you that one day I would end you for what you made me do to Letti. You thought I was lying. What do you think now?”*
*The vision froze and Vine Keeper Annaria studied my face. “You have three choices, Osprey. You need to think long and hard about which one is the right one. I really wish that I could tell you which choice to make, but I can’t.”*
*I turned my head to face my family again. “I know what I want to do,” I murmured. “In two of these, he was obviously feral,” I told her. “I think I want you to make it impossible for him to become feral.”*
*Her face stilled into a neutral look before she nodded. “If that is what you wish.”*
*It was my turn to study her face, worried that I was making that wrong choice with how she responded. I lowered my head to look at the decapitated head at my feet as I pondered what I should do. I shook my head.*
*“Can I have some time to think about it? I don’t want to make the wrong decision?” I sighed. *“Annie, my mate, and our daughter depend on it.”*
*“What about the rest of your sleuth? Don’t they matter?” She asked.*
*“Not as much as my mate and our daughters do to me. Not as much as Annie matters to him. All of this,” I told her, waving my hand around at the scene. “Is about her. About Annie. He is going crazy because of her. I need to figure out how to bring him back to earth for her. Obviously it can be done. You showed me that it can be, but you won’t tell me how. So I have to think about it.”*
*She nodded. “Take as long as you need to. When you are ready, walk into the woods and call to me. I will come.” She walked over to me to put her hand on my shoulder, squeezing my shoulder. “I’m proud of you, Alpha Osprey. You really have grown up into a wonderful man.”*
She faded from sight as the vision released me from its hold. When I opened my eyes again, I was back in the cabin, slumped against the wall. I eyed Gerald on the bed, sighing before pushing myself up off the floor. I walked over to the bed where I shook him awake. He instantly narrowed his eyes on me.
“What the fuck do you want?” He spat.
“We need to talk, Gerald.”
“About what? I don’t want to talk to you!” He growled. “Let me go!”
I eyed him for a moment before shaking my head. “Not until after we talk. Annie’s life depends on it and so does yours…”
