Nobody and Nothing Will Stand In My Way

Gerry
I held Annie’s hand on the way to her program’s building. I was amazed by how accepting she had been of the fact that I marked her without giving her a heads up. I lifted her hand up to press a kiss to the back of it while she shifted to lay her head on my shoulder.
“Gerry?”
“Yes, beautiful?”
“When do you want me to mark you?” She asked, surprising me a little.
I groaned as my cock twitched in my pants, getting a little hard at the thought of her marking me back. “I wanted you to mark me the moment I found you in the bar with that pathetic wolf,” I told her before kissing her hand again, “but since we can’t go back in time, I will just say that I want you to mark me whenever it feels right to you. I don’t want you to think just because I marked you that you have to mark me back. It’s more important to me that you want to mark me.”
“Are you sure it’s okay that I didn’t mark you back?”
“Yes, baby,” I answered her.
But it wasn’t. I wanted her to mark me; I needed her to. I knew I had been on the cusp of losing her before I aura’ed her, and the smallest little thing could tip the scales back in that direction. All it would take was seeing her mate again or talking about him to make Marsha realize that something had tampered with her memories. It wouldn’t take long between the first inkling of being messed with and the time that Marsha would start to look through their memories, as my energy would be hard to miss. Out of the two of them, Marsha was a lot more suspicious and observant.
“Gerry?”
“Yes, Annie?”
“You missed the turn for my building,” she told me. “Are you okay?”
I shook my head to clear my thoughts as I completed a u-turn to go back. “Yes, baby. I was just thinking about you marking me. I can’t help but get excited at the prospect of you making me yours in a way that would be unmistakable as to who I belong to.”
Once I parked, she wrapped her arms around my neck as she pressed a kiss to my cheek. “I can’t wait either. I just want it to be special for you. I want it to be something you tell our great-great-great grandchildren.”
I moved my seat back so I could pull her onto my lap. “Great-great-great grandchildren, hmmm. I think you wanting to be with me long enough to have them is an even more exciting thought than being marked by you.”
She giggled as she pecked my lips. “Great-great-great grandchildren and then some.”
I groaned again as I ran my hands down her body. “You better get inside before I take you home and tie you to our bed.”
Her hands flew up to her face to cover her blush. “Gerry!”
I smirked down at her. “Yes, my little mate?”
“Maybe tonight!”
I cursed under my breath as she moved back to her side of the car. “Don’t tease me, Annie!”
“Okay,” she whispered, flushing even darker.
I quickly got out of the car and hurried around to the other side so I could open the door for her. I helped her out before starting to lead her toward the entrance. She squeezed my hand before pulling away to run up to Giselda, who shot me an angry look over Annie’s shoulder as they hugged. I knew she could smell me on Annie, but I didn't care. Annie was mine, and I would be damned if anyone was going to get between us, and that included my fated mate too. When Annie pulled back to smile at Giselda, she ripped her gaze from me to look at Annie.
“Good morning, Annie! How are you doing today?” Giselda asked.
“I’m great,” Annie answered.
Giselda leaned toward her, sniffing intently before her eyes flashed furiously at me. “You smell different, Annie. Did you have a good night last night?”
Annie glanced at me as her cheeks started turning pink again. “Yes, I did. Did you?”
“It was alright, I suppose. Annie, may I ask you something?”
“Sure.”
“Is Gerald your fated mate?” Giselda asked, making me stiffen immediately as my gaze shot to hers.
Annie shook her head slightly as she reached back to take my hand. “No, but I chose him, and he chose me back. I wouldn’t trade him for anything in the world.”
I brought her hand to my mouth to kiss it as I continued to glare at Giselda. “And I wouldn’t trade you either, Banannie.”
“What about your fated—”
“Annie! Didn’t you say that you had to use the bathroom on the way here?” I asked, cutting Giselda off, angry at myself for not realizing that if anyone could blow this whole thing up with Annie, it was Giselda.
During my fight with Osprey the night before, Scarlett had hinted at Logan and Giselda knowing each other. If that was the case, Giselda might have been sent here to intercept Annie on purpose. I had to put a stop to this before it got out of control. Annie smiled up at me.
“I did. I’m surprised you heard me while you were lost in your thoughts. I’ll be right back, Giselda.” She pressed her lips against my cheek. “I love you, Gerry. Have a good day.”
After Annie ran inside, I pinned Giselda with a threatening glare while I let my aura out to force her to comply with my wishes. “You will not speak to her about Logan. I know you know him. You will not mention that she has found her fated mate.” I narrowed my eyes on her, letting her know how angry I truly was. “You will not tell anyone that you found your mate. And if you already have told people, you are to tell them you are mistaken.” I took a deep breath. “Have you told anyone that I’m your mate?”
“No,” she whispered, completely under my control.
“Good. Keep it that way. I don’t want anyone to know. Especially not Annie. I won’t lose her because of you or her mate. Do you understand me?” She nodded as tears started to course down her face. “Good! Now, get to class. And don’t do anything to Annie. You will treat her like she is your best friend.”
I watched as she spun around to go inside before I climbed back into my car. I may not want her as my mate, but that didn’t mean that I wanted to have to kill her. I would if I had to so I could preserve my relationship with Annie, but I prayed to the Goddess that I wouldn’t have to. I sighed as I glanced at the building in my rearview mirror. The Goddess had never let me down before, and even if she decided to, I knew she wouldn’t abandon Annie. So that meant she wouldn’t abandon me either, not as long as I was with Annie. I was practically untouchable, and it was all because my little sister now bore my mark.
