Why?

Gerry
As soon as Giselda was pulled under, Ryan dismissed everyone from the clearing except for the doctor, who he asked to check her out. Once the doctor was done, he stood up, rubbing his forehead.
“We should make her comfortable. I will have some of my assistants come and carry her back,” he told us.
Ryan narrowed his eyes on the doctor. “What do you mean by ‘make her comfortable?’
“Come on, Ryan! You watched her lose her mate. You know what that means. We don’t survive long without our mates. She has a week, maybe two at most.”
“Are you saying that she will die?” Ryan asked gleefully, making me growl at him while baring my teeth at him.
“Yes, Ryan. I doubt the Goddess will spare her when she so obviously wants to be with him,” the doctor explained.
“I wonder who Logan will choose as his beta now. I’m next in line,” he mused joyfully.
I leapt to my feet and had him pinned against a tree in seconds. He clawed at my hand, struggling to breathe as I tightened my hand around his throat.
“You will never be beta!” I growled. “I won’t let her die. She is my fated mate, and I will not allow her to follow him to the Goddess’ side. You did this!” I gestured around the clearing. “You came to me and wanted me to hurt Giselda and Annie. You didn’t just want to be beta! You wanted me to offer you a way to become alpha. You wanted me to take my sister’s mate away from her. You wanted me to help you take her sleuth away from her. If she had been here yesterday, you would have already been dead!” His face turned red as I continued to squeeze his throat. “I will not allow you to threaten them!”
“Are you sure about your allegations?” The doctor asked.
I turned my head to pin him with an angry glare. “Very. I almost fought him the other day because he asked me to help him. I’ve been trying to talk to Annie and Logan, but they haven’t been here. And she won’t talk to me. So, I’m stuck waiting for the alphas to get back.”
“If Alpha Sow Annaria is your sister, why don’t you just link her?” The doctor inquired.
I pretended to grimace. “Because I hurt her by choice. I fucked up and my intentions weren’t exactly pure toward her. I regret it and would never overstep again. I respect her relationship with your alpha and refuse to make him doubt what our relationship is now.”
“Oh! Everything makes sense now!” He said, and I narrowed my eyes on him even more.
“What makes sense?” I spat.
“Hmmm? Nothing. Just why Alpha Sow Annaria was asking for you when she was in the hospital the other day,” he answered.
I pulled Ryan away from the tree to slam him back against it, grinning when his head hit the trunk hard and he lost consciousness. After I turned around to face the doctor, I tilted my head as I studied his face.
“Why was she in the hospital? Is she okay?” I asked, surprised by my genuine interest in her wellbeing.
“Yes. She just hasn’t been taking care of herself correctly. She tried to comfort Beta Giselda and passed out. I put her on a strict diet and told Alpha Logan that she needed to slow down. She is just pushing herself too fast. I have no doubt that when she gets back, she will be better.”
“Hmmmm. So what do we do about these two?” I inquired.
“Well, we take him to the dungeons and make her comfortable,” he told me.
I walked back over to Giselda to carefully pick her up before cradling her seemingly lovingly against my chest as I met his eyes.
“There is no making her comfortable. I meant when I said that I wasn’t going to allow her to follow him to the Goddess’ side. I am her mate and I am capable of saving her. I will save her. She may hate me later and I will accept it, but she can’t die before I earn her forgiveness,” I said, letting my aura come out a little.
He eyed me for a moment before walking over to Ryan to throw him over his shoulder. “Alright. We will just wait for Beta Giselda to wake up and then we will ask her what she wants to do.”
“That’s fine.” I tilted my head toward the trees. “After you.”
As I followed behind him, Kraven pushed forward a little. ‘I hope you know what you’re doing, human,’ he growled.
I smirked for a second before wiping it off my face. ‘I do.’
‘What’s the plan?’ He asked.
‘We’re going to blame everything on Ryan,’ I told him smugly.
‘How are we going to keep him from saying that we were behind the attack?’
I laughed in my head. ‘Trust me, Kraven.’
‘You better not mess up, human. You don’t even want to know what I will do if you fail me,’ he threatened.
‘I won’t.’
He faded back, leaving me more annoyed than I was while I was watching my fucking mate marry that loser asshole she chose over me. My arms tightened around Giselda as the urge to choke the living shit out of her surfaced. I wanted to fucking slit the little bitches throat for what she did. The doctor led me to a room that smelled so strongly of Milton and Giselda that I almost gagged.
“You can put her in her bed. I will be right back after I take Ryan to the dungeon,” the doctor said.
“Alright.”
While I walked across the room, the doctor slipped out of the room, leaving the door cracked behind him. I glanced over my shoulder to make sure he was gone before tossing her on the bed. She bounced, almost falling off the bed. I leaned over the bed to glare at Giselda.
“Don’t even think that you’ve won,” I hissed before quickly straightening her out so the doctor wouldn’t know that I threw her.
I was still adjusting her when the doctor walked back into the room. He walked over to the bed to grip her waist, checking her pulse. He sighed before turning to me.
“Are you sure that marking her will save her?” He asked.
“Yes,” I answered confidently.
He gently turned her face to the left so that she was facing away from me with Milton’s mark bare.
“Do it before I change my mind. She is fading. Angel is giving up,” he informed me.
I immediately climbed on the bed to bite into her neck. I pushed my venom into her, refusing to let her die. She was mine and I would decide when the little cunt took her last breath. I pulled my teeth out of her throat and the doctor sighed, still gripping her wrist.
“Again.”
I sank my teeth into her throat again, pushing more venom into her. When I pulled my teeth out of her, I looked up at the doctor questioningly. He shook his head, sighing deeply.
“This isn’t working. She’s not accepting your venom. Just what did you do?” He inquired.
I narrowed my eyes on him. “I fucked up. Now back up.”
He backed away a foot, keeping his hand wrapped around her wrist. I shifted on the bed so that I could bite down directly into her heart, pushing my venom as hard and as fast as I could before sitting up to start compressions when her heart stopped. Kraven pushed his aura out as I kept doing the compressions, ordering her to accept our venom. Her body jerked and the doctor let out a shocked noise.
“ACCEPT ME, DAMMIT, GISELDA!”
“Do that again!” He ordered.
I bite back into her chest, pushing the last bit of my stored venom into her before starting my compressions while strengthening my command more. Her body spasmed again before her eyelids fluttered. I kept the compressions going until the doctor reached over to put his hands over mine, stopping me.
“Wait! Her heart is beating normally,” he said.
I remained still until he broke out into a smile. “You did it. She’s going to be okay.”
I forced my body to relax as I tucked her hair behind her ear. I leaned down to kiss her softly. “Thank you for fighting, baby,” I murmured.
The doctor patted my shoulder. “Well, done, son. If you need me, I’ll be on the floor below tonight. Just yell for me.”
“On the floor below?” I repeated.
“Yes. In case you need me.”
“Alright. Thank you.” I walked him to the door where I shook his hand. “Goodnight, Doctor.”
“Goodnight.”
I shut the door behind him before pressing my ear against the door to listen to his retreating steps. Once they were out of ear shot, I stomped back to the bed to glare down at Giselda. I watched her breathe for a moment before letting my eyes move up her body to her face. I grabbed her around the throat to turn her face toward me, before scoffing as I rolled my eyes.
“Save the tears you little slut! You deserve to die but not until I have made you pay for letting some other man violate a body that I own!” I snarled.
I wiped the tear off her face with my index finger before lifting it up so I could look at it. I turned my wrist, almost mesmerized for a moment by its wetness before sticking my finger into my mouth and sucking the tear off. After pulling my finger out of my mouth, I smirked down at her.
“And to think, you haven’t even begun to cry yet.”
I slapped her before walking out of the room. I inhaled deeply as I stepped out of the room. Having picked up on Ryan’s scent, I quickly followed it down two flights of stairs before it led me down a hallway to an almost hidden door. I glanced around before slipping inside. Staying to the shadows, I trailed after the scent to a small cell almost at the back of the dungeons, where Ryan was fast asleep on a hard cot. I smirked. This was too easy. I pulled Kraven forward to control his aura as I walked into the cell to bite him. I groaned when I didn’t have much venom to push into him, but Kraven’s aura was stronger than it had ever been. So I didn’t foresee any issues. When I felt his resistance fall, I entered his mind immediately taking it over.
I moved through his brain, wrapping my command so tightly around every last centimeter of it that he would have a heart attack, or what presented as one, if he disobeyed. Once I was sure that he would take the full blame for the attack, I walked out of the cell. I quickly found my way to the kitchen, grabbed a few different snacks along with a few bottles of water, and started to head back upstairs, only stopping long enough to listen for the doctor on the second floor. Halfway up the last flight of stairs, I turned around to back down to the second floor. I knocked on the doctor’s door before taking a step back. He pulled the door open a few seconds later, rubbing his eyes sleepily.
“Is Beta Giselda okay?” He asked worriedly.
“Yes, she’s sleeping. I just wanted to ask you a question.” I told him.
“So, ask.”
“Is there anything I need to watch for tonight?” I inquired.
“No. If she makes it through the night, she should be okay. Tonight is crucial. Just take care of her the best way you can,” he answered.
I nodded. “Okay. Thank you.”
Feeling more relieved about her chances of survival, I went upstairs. It made me happy to know that she was going to survive. I needed her to. Not only was she my way into the house, but she was also the way back into Annie’s life. When I walked into the room, I drew up short when Giselda was sitting up in the middle of the bed with her arms around her legs. She raised her tear stained face to meet my eyes.
“Why?” She whispered.
“Why what?” I asked as I walked over to the bed.
“Why did you keep me alive? Do you really hate me that much?”
