Trying to Honor Everyone
Osprey
As soon as my mother ushered us out of the room, I jogged down the stairs, telling them that I would find and talk to Gerry. I rolled my shoulders back as I leapt the porch stairs to land on the ground, immediately shifting my path so I could follow Gerry’s scent into the woods. When his scent turned back toward the house, I sped up, racing back toward the house while I snuck into Annie’s head. Godric growled angrily when fear and heartbreak instantly swamped us, only to be replaced seconds later by joy and excitement.
As I exited the forest, the front door standing wide open had me running inside at full speed, terrified of what I would find. I checked Annie’s link again and let out a breath of relief as her arousal flowed through. She was okay. At least for the moment. I hurried into the living room where my parents’ scents were the strongest, my heart immediately stopping when I saw them all slumped on the couches. I glanced at the ceiling when a loud thud made it shake. Fuck. They were really going at it. I started checking my parents’ pulses while praying that Logan had kept his promise and had actually removed Annie from the fight. If she got hurt, I had Scarlett’s permission to fuck both of their asses up.
As soon as I made sure that all of my parents were still alive and only under a command, I left the room, immediately stopping when I saw Giselda standing halfway up the stairs with tears glistening in her eyes. I went up to her, keeping an ear on the scuffle happening in the room, to place a hand on the small of her back. She turned her head to look at me, blinking at me furiously.
“Are you alright?” I asked softly.
“No. I know this is the plan, but the only way this ends is with his death,” she told me quietly.
“Don’t be so sure of that. Maybe Logan or Annie can get him to see reason,” I said.
She shook her head sadly. “No. He dies.” She turned toward me fully. “He’ll never let her go, and I hope you understand that I can’t be here when you kill him.”
I nodded. “It’s okay. Go on. I’ll handle it here.”
She gave me a quick hug before fleeing from the house. I knew she was hurting, and it sucked that it was because of my brother. He was an asshole and didn’t deserve either of the women that he had in his claws. I tensed as I listened to the conversation between Annie, Logan, and Gerry. I just hoped that I hadn’t been wrong to trust Logan. If Gerry was as crazy as they said he was, which by this point I had no doubt he was, Logan might not be able to keep his word. And if he couldn’t, there was only one avenue left for me to take. I put my hand into my pocket to grasp the small vial Beanie had been given by the vines.
He hadn’t wanted to be with his fated mate because of what his parents did to him, so he had begged the Keeper of the Vines for a way to break the mate bond. I was just glad that when he finally found his mate, he hadn’t been able to break the bond. My sister, Elena, had changed his mind, which I was glad about because they were perfect together. He had given it to me before I came to help Logan. He adored Annie just as much as I did and understood that she needed to be protected. The moment I told him that if Logan couldn’t protect her from Gerry, then he didn’t need to be with her, he had agreed and given me the vial to break the bond. I didn’t want to do it to Annie, but if it meant protecting her, then I would. We all would. Without hesitation. When I heard someone running into things inside the room, I rushed up the stairs, bounding inside with Godric immediately letting our aura out while I pulled on Scarlett’s, Beanie’s, and Elena’s auras to strengthen our own.
“THAT’S ENOUGH!” I yelled as I rushed over to the window, trapping Gerry in place with my aura.
I was pushed out of the way as Logan jumped from the window to fall beside Annie, pleading with her to stay with him. I watched as Annie was practically swallowed by a pod and taken under the ground while Logan begged the vines to bring her back as he tried to dig the pod up. I watched for a moment with my heart not beating as sorrow filled me over feeling Annie’s link break. After a few seconds of panic, two more vines came up to pierce Logan’s leg before little lumps started being taken from him from one vine while the other started to push some into him. He watched it for a moment before his body jerked. He moved to lay over the spot where the pod buried itself back into the ground before looking up at me. I opened our link.
‘What’s going on, Logan?’
‘I am not sure, but I think the vines are giving Annie my blood while giving me hers,’ he responded.
‘Do you think she is alive?’ I asked as her link started to pulse weakly in my head.
‘I am not entirely sure, but if there’s a chance, I’m going to do everything I can to help her.’
‘Good. You handle that, and I’ll handle Gerry. Keep me updated,’ I ordered.
‘I will.’
His eyes drifted close, and I turned around to glare at Gerry, who was just as angrily looking at me. I narrowed my eyes on him.
“I’m going to tell you exactly what is going to happen. For causing Annie’s death,” I laughed coldly as his eyes widened. “Oh, you think I’m lying? Go look. The vines took her body. I know you felt her link break. You have destroyed her. After breaking her spirit, you killed her. How does it feel to be the reason our little sister is no longer here? How does it feel to be the reason that the woman you claim to love is dead? How does it feel that you destroyed the only good thing in your life? You never deserved her. You also don’t deserve Giselda. And by the time I’m done with you, you will know just how much you don’t deserve them.” I paused to let my words sink in. “But, because Giselda has feelings for you, I will try to wake you up. Maybe you will wake up and realize just how wrong you have been.” I hit him in the chest. “This is your only chance. And you’re only getting it because Scarlett loves you. If I had it my way, you would be dead already. So, if I were you, I would take this chance. Do you understand me?”
His jaw clenched, but he gave me a sharp. “Yes.”
“Good. Now, the first step is to drop your aura from our parents and never aura them again.”
I waited for a moment before he nodded. “Done.”
“And now, step two…”
