Needing His Reassurances
I pushed the water around my body with my hands, trying to warm the water up a little. I groaned when it didn’t and turned to look at Giselda who was perched on the bathroom sink counter reviewing some documents. Just like she had the last for the last three days since we arrived at Havana.
“Giselda?” I called softly.
“Yes, Annie,” she immediately responded without even looking up.
“Does Logan regret asking me to be his alpha sow?” I asked timidly, too afraid of the answer to speak any louder than a whisper.
Her head snapped up so she could meet my eyes, which I immediately lowered to the floor. “Excuse me?”
“Please, don’t make me say it again,” I mumbled.
“Logan is happy that you agreed to be his alpha sow,” she said matter of factly.
“Are you sure?” I pressed.
“Yes. Without a doubt. Where is all of this coming from, Annie?”
“It’s just that he’s barely been around since we got here. We haven’t spoken. We haven’t touched. We haven’t done anything.”
She stared at me in shock. “Nothing?”
“No. He’s gone before I wake up and sneaks into bed after I am asleep. Sometimes I wake up and try to snuggle with him but he’s on his side, facing away from me,” I told her.
“Annie, listen to me. If that’s what he’s doing there has to be a reason. Have you tried to talk to him about it? Have you told him that it hurts your feelings that he is doing that and makes you feel unwanted?”
I shook my head as I trailed my fingers through the water. “No. He’s an alpha. He is busy. I–”
“Never too busy that he won’t take a few minutes out of his day to speak to the most important person in his life,” she said, cutting me off.
“But the sleuth–”
“Is not as important as you are. He loves you. He waited for years for you. Trust me, Annie, that man is crazy about you.”
“But–”
“Finish up. I want to take you somewhere,” she interrupted me again.
“Where?”
“To see Logan. It’s one thing to hear how he feels from me but it is an entirely other thing to hear it from him. I’m the beta, Annie. A new beta at that. Do you think that if he didn’t love you, he would have asked me to do my work wherever you are so that I could make sure that you were safe? No, he wouldn’t. I would be sitting in that stupid office with him, listening to boring business and trying not to kill the elders. So, finish up, so I can take you to see him and you can put these thoughts out of your head.”
I sighed but fell silent as I quickly washed my hair and body before rinsing off. As the water drained, I took the towel she handed me, dried off, and got dressed in jeans and a black tank top. She raised her eyebrow at me.
“Aren’t you going to wear a bra?”
I looked down at my shirt to see that both of my nipples were poking out. “I don’t have a bra. I haven’t been anywhere but the room. I need to go shopping and get stuff, but I have been to be afraid to ask and–”
“Annie, relax. Let’s go see Logan and then I will take you shopping, but in the meantime, here.” She quickly removed her bra and handed it to me. “I’m a little smaller than you but it will work in a pinch. Goddess knows that Logan will kill any man that looks at you. While you’re talking to him, I will go and get another bra.”
“Thanks,” I whispered as I put it on.
She gave me a nod of approval. “He is going to go crazy. You look so beautiful.”
“It’s just jeans and–”
“Shush! That man is crazy about you. Come on now. Let’s go make him aware of how much of a dick he’s being,” she suggested.
“He’s–”
“I swear if you say, ‘he’s an alpha’ one more time, I might just have to smack you a good one!” She threatened playfully.
I followed her silently down to the main floor where she pushed me gently into a hallway.
“It’s the only room down that hallway. Just keep going until you reach a door. And tell him how you feel. Don’t hold back,” she ordered.
“Alright.”
I walked slowly down the hallway until I reached the door. I glanced over my shoulder to see her standing in the entrance of the hallway with her arms folded over her chest, and tapping her foot, killing every hope that I could just run back to my room and not have to face him. I hesitantly raised my hand to knock on the door softly.
“I’M IN A MEETING! GO AWAY!” Logan yelled, making me jump.
“Y-yes, Alpha Logan,” I whimpered.
I turned around to flee back down the hallway when the door was pulled open, and my wrist was grabbed. He pulled me into his arms, immediately burying his face in my neck.
“Annie! I’m sorry. I didn’t know it was you. I thought it was that damn maid again. She’s been pestering me all day about stuff. Why didn’t you just come in? You don’t have to knock on doors. You are my alpha sow. There is no sleuth business that you will be barred from,” he told me.
I turned around to look up at him. “I just wanted to talk to you about something,” I whispered.
“Ok, baby. Oh, and don’t call me Alpha Logan. Everyone else has to call me that, but not you. Come in. Let’s talk.”
He led me inside his office where Ryan and another gentleman sat at Logan’s desk, obviously very annoyed that I had showed up and interrupted their meeting. Logan bared his teeth at them.
“You heard her. We need to talk. Get out. I will tell you when to return!” He growled, letting his aura out.
Both men hurried out of the office, shutting the door behind them. Logan guided me to his chair, where he pulled me onto his lap the moment he sat down, keeping his arms wrapped around me.
“So, my beautiful Alpha Sow Annaria, what did you want to talk about?” He asked.
“I-I ummm…”
He settled back in his seat before shifting me so that I was laying on his chest. “Take your time, love. There’s no need to rush.”
“It’s just that I worry that you regret choosing me!” I blurted.
He went completely still under me before tipping my face up so that I was looking into his eyes. “What?”
“It’s just that we haven’t spent any time together and I… well I miss you.”
He smiled brightly at me. “I’ve missed you too, Annie. I’m sorry that I have been working so much. I didn’t even stop to think how you were feeling about it. I was just focused on fixing the mess my parents left me to deal with.”
“I can help you. My parents taught me how to run a sleuth. Daddy says that I was the best at handling the money,” I told him.
He brought his lips down to meet mine. “Do you want to help, baby?”
“If it means I get to spend time with you, yes. I don’t like all this time apart.”
“I’ll tell you what, Annie. How about I take the rest of the day off and we can do something together, and then tonight we can start looking over the sleuth’s financial records together?”
“Really?”
He nodded. “Yeah. I hate being away from you too. This way I get to handle business and still spend time with you.”
I threw my arms around his neck excitedly as I peppered his neck with tiny kisses. “I’d love that. Thank you so much.”
“Don’t thank me, beautiful. I never want you to feel like you’re feeling now.” He paused to peck my lips. “I will also make sure that I don’t work past 6 PM anymore. That way we have a few hours to spend together before we go to bed.”
“And not start until 8 AM so I don’t have to wake up alone?” I asked hopefully.
He nodded. “If that is what my alpha sow would like me to do.”
“It is. Overworking yourself is not good to do,” I told him.
“I know.” His hands moved down my body, tracing all of my curves before gripping my ass. “I’m glad you’re here, Annie. I actually wanted to talk to you about something.”
“What did I do?”
“Nothing. I was wondering if you wanted to go on a date with me? There’s somewhere special that I want to take you. A place that is reserved only for the alpha and beta families.”
“And you want to take me there?” I murmured in awe.
“Very much so. You are now part of the alpha family. It is only right that you visit this place.”
I smiled up at him as I kissed him softly before whispering against his lips, “okay. I’ll go with you.”
