Chasing Annie

Logan
I groaned as I pushed myself up off the floor. I was such an asshole and I hadn’t mean to be. True to her word, Annie had packed up and left Havana within an hour of our fight, slipping out of the gates while I was being lectured by Giselda for acting so jealously. It hadn’t taken me long to catch up to her. She may be good at hiding her scent in the forest because I honestly didn’t try that hard to find her. Our game was about building her confidence, and she was getting better at it. If I wanted to, I could find her quickly, and that was why I held Luge back so I could only use my human abilities to “find” her. Not that I would ever tell her that. But now? With her trying to leave me, I kept Luge at the front of our mind so we didn’t lose her for real as she made her way slowly across the country.
Marsha would run all day and at night, carrying her single backpack of things in her mouth, and Annie would get a hotel room every night. She knew I was following her. I didn’t hide it. I tried to talk to her as much as I could, but she kept our link tightly sealed, and stormed past me at the hotels. I had no idea where she was going, but I had a feeling that she was going back to her birth sleuth, which was mainly fueled by the knowledge that Annie never paid for her rooms. She would walk in, give her name, and be handed a key. So, someone, probably Osprey, was paying ahead for them. I had taken to sleeping outside her room every night so I would know when she was getting ready to leave. I didn’t want her to make it to wherever she was going. If she did, I was afraid that I would lose her for good.
I hoped that me leaving Havana to follow her would show her that I wanted her. I hoped that it would make her believe that I really did love her, but so far she had no interest in anything that I was doing. And it was killing me. I was so tired, both emotionally and physically. I was a mess without her. Giselda linked me throughout the day to keep me updated about Havana and what was going on there, but I didn’t really care. I wasn’t going back without Annie. Even if I had to sleep outside whatever sleuth she was going to. I sighed before rapping my knuckles on her room door.
“Annie? Are you awake? Can we please talk?” I begged. When there wasn’t even a sound from inside the room, I pressed my ear against the door. “Annie?” Still nothing. I jumped to my feet to kick the door angrily. “ANNIE! ANSWER THE DOOR!”
Something hit the back of my head, making me spin around. Annie stood there eating a muffin with her eyes narrowed on me.
“Eat! I know you haven’t been.”
I looked down to see a prepackaged muffin laying at my feet. I groaned as I bent down to pick it up.
“Thank you.”
“Whatever. You’re still a jerk,” she grumbled as she opened the door before walking in, leaving the door open.
“Annie?”
“Well come on. You've been trying to talk to me for three days. You might as well come in and say what you have to say so we can go home,” she told me as she plopped down on the bed.
I hurried inside, closing the door behind me before she could change her mind. “I’m sorry, Annie. For being an asshole. I shouldn’t have said that stuff to you or brushed off how you felt. I am sorry that I am so jealous of Gerald. I don’t know if it’s going to be something I can get over quickly, especially since everything is still so fresh, but I swear to you that I am trying. I don’t want to lose you and the last few days have just about killed me. I need you, baby. As my mate, my wife, the mother of my children, and my alpha sow. I love you, and you forgive me, I swear that I will not yell at you anymore. If I get jealous or angry, I promise to come tell you about how I am feeling,” I said, rushing through my words in panic of her stopping me before I could get it all out.
She tilted her head as she studied my face, taking another bite of her muffin. “I’ll forgive you on one condition.”
“Anything! I’ll do anything you want me to do! Just tell me what it is and I’ll do it right now,” I gushed as hope blossomed in my chest.
“You have to get on your knees and kiss my feet and apologize.”
I eyed her in shock for a moment before nodding. I slowly walked over to the bed before slowly lowering myself to the floor in front of her. I cleared my throat as I reached for her foot to remove her shoe and sock. I gripped her ankle before starting to lift it up to my mouth. She giggled as she yanked her foot out of my hold. I looked up at her questioningly. She pulled me up to lay next to her on bed. I sigh happily when she curled up my chest and kissed my jaw.
“You don’t have to kiss my feet, Logan. I was just testing you,” she told me.
“And did I pass?” I asked.
“You’ve passed for the last three days, Alpha Sexy Pants.”
“You have no idea how good that sounds to me. I thought I was losing you. I was starting to toy with the idea of kidnapping you and holding you hostage in Havana until you forgave me.”
She giggled again as she ran her fingers down my chest. “You were supposed to. I’m glad you followed me, Logan.”
“Me too, Annie. I meant it when I said that I would give up Havana for you. You are the only thing in this world that is worth anything to me, beautiful. You and our baby,” I told her, moving my hand to rest on her stomach.
She smiled up at me. “I really like it when you say that. Our baby. You’re such a great man. I love you.”
“I love you too, Annie.”
She touched my cheek as she raised up a little to put her arm on my chest before laying her chin on it. “I suppose you are ready to go home to Havana now.”
I shrugged. “Whenever you are. We can take the rest of the day or 8 days or 8 years or 80 years to relax before we go. We don’t have to rush.”
She smiled as she leaned forward to press her lips against mine. “That’s so sweet of you to say, but we both know that Giselda is in charge of Havana, and that is not something she is enjoying. She’s happy to just be the beta and take orders from the grumpy, too sexy, bossy pants Mcgee alpha that we all love.”
I chuckled as I slid my hand down her back to squeeze her ass. “You forget perfect and jealous and possibly asshole.”
Her grin widened. “Oh, please do forgive me. The grumpy, too sexy, perfect, jealous, bossy pants Mcgee asshole of an alpha. Better?”
I nodded as I rolled her over. “And when we get home, I’ll make sure that lunatic of an alpha that you just love so much will go easy on you.”
She wrapped her legs around my waist. “Maybe tomorrow. This alpha sow needs to sleep in her own bed with her lunatic alpha’s arms around her.”
I smirked down at her before pecking her lips. “Careful now, before I make that alphas jealous look tame.” She burst out laughing. “You’re so funny, Logan. Take me home. I’m ready.”
“Ummm, the only problem is that I have no idea where we are,” I admitted.
She raised an eyebrow at him. “No? We’re only about 20 miles outside of Havana. We’ve been running around in circles.”
I narrowed my eyes on her. “You’ve got to be kidding me!”
“Not at all. That’s why no one makes me pay for my rooms. They know I’m Havana’s Alpha Sow and then you show up. Nobody is going to make you pay for anything. You have a resting alpha face.”
“What does that even mean?” I asked curiously.
“You always look like you are about to eat someone. People just nod and duck.”
“Whatever,” I grumbled as I got up, instantly pulling her up too.
“Don’t be mad, Logan. You are too handsome to develop frown lines,” she teased as she grabbed her bag before dashing out of the room.
I immediately chased after her, making her giggle as she darted into the woods. I quickly let Luge out to race after Marsha, bumping into her eagerly as she led us back to Havana. Once we walked through the gates, we shifted back, got dressed, and started to make our way to the sleuth house holding hands. I stopped her just outside the door to take her in my arms.
“Back in Havana, Annie. Where you belong.”
She stood up on her tiptoes to wrap her arm around my neck. “With you.”
“Definitely.”
I picked her up to carry her inside. As I was stepping onto the landing on our floor, I paused when I heard voices coming from my office. I narrowed my eyes on the door before going over to it and stepping inside. Annie gasped in my arms before struggling to get down. I set her down, keeping her close to my side as I eyed a sad Giselda before glaring at the man standing behind her almost protectively. He put his hands on her shoulders as he eyed me back nervously.
“Logan, Annie, you’re back,” Giselda said, seemingly happy but the emotion in her voice failed to register on her face.
“We are, and I would like to know where Milton is. I would like to know even more why in the hell Gerlad is standing in my office?”
