Always
Annie
I swallowed hard as Logan stood in front of me unmoving while Giselda moved around him to stand by his side. When I peeked around Logan’s side to look at Gerry, I uttered a small whimper that made him give a harsh chuckle.
“You haven’t even begun to be afraid, my little Banannie! By the end of this, you will know what true fear is.” He gestured to Logan. “If you want him to have a chance of walking from this, you will come here right now! And I do mean right now.”
I immediately went to move around Logan, but his hand shot around to his back, gripping mine tightly, holding me in place behind him. I fisted my hand in his shirt, making his fingertips turn white.
‘You are not going, Annie! You promised that whatever happened, you would stay by my side! I’m not letting you go. So get used to it,’ he linked.
‘Logan, please, let me go. You can get Osprey and Scarlett, and come find me. I’ll be okay and–’
‘NO! ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT! YOU ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE WITH HIM! GET IT OUT OF YOUR MIND!’ He roared.
“What’s it going to be, Annie? Tik tock! I’m not waiting forever. Tell me what it’s going to be. One! Two! Three!”
“I’m staying with Logan,” I whispered.
“Wrong choice, Annaria. Now, you’re going to lose your mate!” Gerry snarled.
Before I could even react, Logan shifted in front of me, immediately charging forward to meet Kraven halfway to us. When I tried to jump into the fray, Giselda wrapped her arm around my waist, forcing me to stay away from the fight. I screamed when Kraven’s claws swiped down Luge’s face, but he didn’t back off. He kept leaping at Kraven, snapping his jaws and swinging his claws. Suddenly, Kraven shifted back, grabbing his pants before rolling quickly as he pulled a needle and syringe out of his pockets. I cried out as he stabbed it into Luge, who reared up in his hind legs, swinging wildly at the syringe to dislodge it. Kraven shifted back before tackling Luge.
They rolled and I cried out as pain swamped me through my link with Logan. It was immediately cut off when Logan slammed our link shut, locking me out of his mind, crippling my ability to draw some of his pain. Kraven pinned Luge, biting down into his neck and sending me crashing to the ground as devastation filled me. I started to sob hysterically, crying out for Logan as Kraven climbed off Luge, who was struggling to breathe. Giselda jumped in front of me with her arms out.
“LEAVE HER ALONE, GERALD!” She yelled. “THIS ISN’T YOU! YOU LOVE ANNIE! YOU WOULD NEVER HURT HER!”
He smirked at her as he approached her. “You never did know me very well, Giselda!”
He reached out for her, and I kicked her knee in as I leapt at him from the ground, clawing at his face while I kicked and punched every available part of his body.
“WHAT DID YOU GIVE HIM?! TELL ME! WHAT DID YOU GIVE HIM?!” I screamed.
His hand shot out to grab my throat and I kicked out at him wildly while I scratched at his hand. He chuckled as his grip tightened around my throat.
“You have no idea how much I’m going to make you pay for what you just did, you little whore!” He spat before tossing me a few feet away as Giselda lunged at him. I slammed into a tree, sliding to the ground as I tried to catch my breath while he caught her in his arms, restraining her easily while she struggled. He turned to face me, making her do so as well. I tried to get back to my feet as his grip on Giselda shifted so that he had her in a headlock, with his hands on the opposite of her head. I pushed myself up on a tree before leaning back against it as I held my ribs.
“Gerry, please, don’t hurt her. Please. She’s your mate,” I begged as tears streamed down my face. “Please!”
He smirked at me as she met my eyes. “Run,” she whispered seconds before he snapped her neck before using a shifted claw to decapitate her.
“NO!” I screamed as pain rippled through me.
I stumbled forward, intending to try to fight him, but I ended up falling to the ground as another wave of debilitating pain tore through my body. He reached down to grab me but a blur came from our left, knocking into him hard enough to shove him away from me. Logan and Gerald tumbled to the ground, landing blow after blow on each other as my link with Logan opened.
‘Run, Annie! Stay on the path to Havana! Osprey will meet you. He’s on the way! Please, baby, run!’ He told me as he landed a hit on Gerald’s face.
I struggled to push myself up again before stumbling away from the clearing where my mate and Gerald still tussled. I blinked back tears, hating that I was running away when Logan needed me. I froze when the word ‘coward’ started echoing in my head. I spun back around, racing back toward the fight as fast as I could. As soon as I made it back to the clearing, I launched myself at Gerald, attacking him from behind while Logan fought him weakly from underneath as Gerald continued to tear into him easily, removing flesh and muscle from him with every swipe of his deadly claws.
I bit down into Gerald’s neck, and he reached over his shoulder to grab my hair before using it to fling me off of him again. I screamed out again as I hit another tree. Before I could struggle back to my feet, he shifted into his bear, instantly biting down into Logan’s neck, snapping it the second his mouth closed. I cried out as my link with Logan snapped, collapsing on the ground as the most intense pain that I had ever felt filled me. As the pain increased, my vision started to swim. I whimpered as I could barely make out Gerald removing Logan’s heart before eagerly dipping his fingers into my mate’s blood to smear it all over his face and torso.
I closed my eyes tightly to avoid watching him as he continued to paint himself with Logan’s blood, praying that the Goddess would just take me. When my hair was tucked behind my ear, I opened my eyes to see Gerald kneeling in front of me with Logan’s heart in his hand. I blinked and my flowing tears instantly became heavier.
“Why? Why did you have to take them away from me?” I sobbed.
He smiled lovingly at me as he held out Logan’s heart to me. “Here. I brought you a gift. Eat it. Let’s celebrate.”
I pushed his hand away. “No! Logan was not my enemy. You are! I should be eating your heart!” I barely managed to croak out.
His face fell as he looked down at Logan’s heart. “Don’t you see, Annie? I did this for you. Why can’t you see that?”
The pain started to drag me under, forcing my eyes closed as I whispered, “Just kill me, Gerald. I’ll never love you. No matter what you do to me, it will always be him. Always…”
