Chapter 10
Chapter 10
As they hop out of the car, Anna doesn't dare to wait for him, she was tired of everything. Fernandez watches the way her hips sway from left to right and his eyes darken dangerously, she doesn't seem to be aware that she was playing with fire. As Anna got to the living room, there she saw Olivia who was pacing nonstop.
Olivia's expression turned cold and irritated when she saw Anna, but she quickly masked it with a fake smile as she rushed to Fernandez. She attempted to hug him and peck his cheek, but he subtly dodged her, leaving her to smile awkwardly. Instead, she grasped Anna's hand, holding it tightly as Anna tried to pull away.
"I'm so sorry for my behavior at the function, Anna," Olivia said, her voice laced with insincerity. "I was just jealous of the attention Fernandez gave you at the party. But I'm insecure, and Fernandez has assured me it's all just an act for the public. He could never truly love you," Olivia added, her words dripping with venom.
Anna felt a stinging pain from Olivia's words, like salt rubbed into an open wound. She couldn't understand why Fernandez had married her if he already had someone he loved. "I hope you can forgive me, Anna," Olivia continued, her tone sugary sweet. "To prove my sincerity, I've prepared your favorite dish for dinner."
Anna was left speechless, her eyes fixed on Olivia as Fernandez watched the scene unfold with an unreadable expression. Anna's curiosity was piqued - how did Olivia know her favorite food? Olivia seemed to sense her thoughts and smiled knowingly. "If you're wondering how I knew your favorite food, it's because Fernandez told me all about you. He mentioned your love for pasta." Olivia's smile seemed to hide a secret, and Anna's distrust grew.
Olivia pushed Anna into a seat at the dining table and sat beside her, strategically positioning herself between Anna and Fernandez. Anna's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with suspicions. As Olivia served the pasta onto plates, Anna's thoughts turned to the worst-case scenario - had they poisoned the food? She couldn't trust this dysfunctional duo, who seemed to be playing a twisted game with her life.
Anna hesitated, unsure if she should eat the food. Olivia noticed her reluctance and took a forkful of pasta, chewing slowly and deliberately. Anna watched, waiting for any sign of poisoning, but Olivia seemed fine. Fernandez also started eating, and eventually, Anna took a tentative bite. To her surprise, the pasta was delicious, though it didn't quite taste as she expected.
As they finished the meal, Fernandez stood up, his expression cold. "Don't think for a moment that I care about you, Anna. I don't. I only gathered information about you because I couldn't have someone unknown living under my roof." He turned and walked away, leaving Anna feeling sad and unwanted.
Olivia approached her, a condescending smile on her face. "Don't be upset, Anna. That's just Fernandez's nature. He always speaks the truth. And let's be real, you're only his wife in name. We both know he only loves me." She patted Anna's shoulder patronizingly. "Goodnight, sweet dreams. I'll leave you to your thoughts. Fernandez is waiting for me in our room."
Anna nodded, feeling a lump form in her throat. She watched Olivia saunter away, feeling trapped and alone in this loveless marriage.
As Anna settled into the guest room bed, her stomach began to churn and she felt a cold sweat break out across her skin. She couldn't explain what was happening - was it the opulent mansion, the tense atmosphere, or her own anxiety? Seeking relief, she got up and headed downstairs to the kitchen, hoping a glass of water would calm her nerves.
As she opened the fridge to grab a bottle of water, she didn't notice the figure watching her from the shadows. But as soon as she gulped down the cold water, her skin began to itch and her throat felt parched. The symptoms were sudden and intense, and Anna's heart raced as she realized something was terribly wrong.
The figure remained hidden, observing Anna's distress with an unreadable expression. Anna's mind raced - what was happening to her?
Anna's body began to scratch uncontrollably, her skin turning a deep red. Her throat constricted, making it hard to breathe. She gasped for air, grasping the counter for support. Her vision blurred, and her legs felt like jelly. She thought back to what she had eaten - just pasta, no mushrooms. What could be causing this reaction?
As her breathing grew more labored, Fernandez emerged from the shadows, his eyes fixed on her. He had been watching her, sipping his coffee in the corner. At first, he thought she was acting strangely, but as her condition worsened, he sprang into action. Catching her before she fell, he felt her burning skin and weak pulse. His heart raced with anger - whoever had done this to her had also crossed him.
Anna's body began to scratch uncontrollably, her skin turning a deep red. Her throat constricted, making it hard to breathe. She gasped for air, grasping the counter for support. "What's happening to me?" she whispered, her vision blurring.
Fernandez emerged from the shadows, his eyes fixed on her. "Damn it, Anna!" he cursed, catching her before she fell. "Who's done this to you?"
Olivia appeared, concern etched on her face. "What's going on?"
"Get the car key!" Fernandez barked, his anger palpable. "We need to get her to the hospital, now!"
Olivia rushed to comply, handing over the keys. "What's happening to her, Fernandez?"
"I don't know, but I'll find out," he growled, his eyes never leaving Anna's face. "And I'll make them pay."
As they sped to the hospital, Anna's breathing grew more labored. "Fernandez...please..." she whispered, her eyes pleading.
"Hold on, Anna," he replied, his voice softening. "We're almost there."
