Chapter 14

Chapter 14
The servants had prepared a sumptuous dinner, and Granny called Anna down to join them. Anna reluctantly made her way to the dining table, not wanting to see Fernandez's face. But she couldn't reject Granny's invitation.
As they sat down, Anna chose a seat far away from Fernandez, her heart racing with anxiety. Being seated with him was even more hellish than she thought. She couldn't digest the food properly, eating at a tortoise's pace.
Granny noticed her struggles and chimed in, "Anna, you're too thin. Eat more, dear."
Fernandez looked up, his eyes locking onto Anna's. "Yes, Granny's right. You should eat more. People will think I'm treating you badly if they see you like this."
Anna glared at him, her voice venomous. "Who are you to talk to me about my weight? Will you always complain about everything in my life?"
Fernandez raised an eyebrow. "Are you supposed to argue over everything?"
Anna's eyes flashed. "I get it. Since I was sold to you, you think you have the right to talk to me like that."
Granny slammed her hand on the table. "Fernandez, that's enough!"
Fernandez's eyes flashed anger as Granny slapped him. "Anna, Granny hasn't ever hit me, but because of you, she did it. I promise, Anna, you will regret this!"
He stormed out of the room, leaving Anna shaken.
Granny apologized to Anna and followed Fernandez out, leaving Anna alone with her thoughts.
In his room, Fernandez paced angrily, recalling how Granny had shouted at him and hit him because of Anna. He lit a cigarette and smoked it, his mind racing. He'd been going crazy ever since he married this girl. He wanted to torment her, but it seemed he was the one being punished. He promised not to let this insult slide.
Anna couldn't sleep, her mind racing with excitement. She had been monitoring Fernandez's movements, waiting for him to leave his study. And when she saw no sign of him, she made her way to the study, her heart pounding with anticipation.
She opened his laptop and began searching for job openings. After what felt like hours, she finally found one that caught her eye. "Smith & Co." was looking for a Secretary, and the salary was more than decent. The interview was tomorrow at 9 pm, and it was only a 30-minute drive from the mansion.
"Yes!" Anna exclaimed, pumping her fist in the air. "I'm going to get this job, and I'll never have to see Fernandez's face again!"
She quickly cleared up everything on the laptop and made her way back to her room, her heart full of joy. She couldn't wait to go to the interview and start working. She would finally be independent, free from Fernandez's grasp.
"I'm going to do this," she said to herself, her eyes shining with determination. "I'm going to make a new life for myself, without him."
She jumped onto her bed, bouncing up and down like a child. "I'm finally going to be free!" she exclaimed, laughing out loud.
Fernandez stormed out of the mansion, his eyes blazing with anger. He didn't even bother to have breakfast, his stomach churning with resentment. He drove to the company, his mind racing with thoughts of Anna and how she had humiliated him in front of Granny.
As he arrived at the office, he was greeted by his assistant, who handed him a cup of coffee. "Good morning, sir," she said, eyeing him warily.
Fernandez took the coffee without a word, his eyes still flashing with anger.
Meanwhile, back at the mansion, Anna was getting ready for her interview. She chose a white shirt and a black skirt, feeling a sense of professionalism wash over her. She brushed her hair and let it fall down her shoulder, applying a bold red lipstick to complete her look.
Granny hugged her tightly in the living room. "Good luck, dear. I know you'll do great."
Anna smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Granny. "Thanks, Granny. I won't let you down."
She took her card and hailed a cab, feeling a sense of excitement and nervousness as she headed to Smith & Co.
As she arrived at the company, she took a deep breath and stepped out of the cab. She looked up at the building, feeling a sense of determination wash over her. She was going to nail this interview, and start her new life.
Smith & Co. was a modern, sleek building with a gleaming glass facade and a spacious lobby. The reception area was tastefully decorated with a minimalist aesthetic, complete with a small water feature and a few potted plants.
Anna arrived early, her heart racing with excitement. She was the first candidate to arrive, and she felt a sense of pride and accomplishment at being so prepared.
She approached the receptionist, a friendly-looking woman with a warm smile. "Hi, I'm here for the Secretary interview," Anna said, her voice confident.
The receptionist nodded. "Ah, yes. You're the first one to arrive. The interview will be held in the conference room, just down that hall." She pointed to a corridor to the left.
Anna thanked her and made her way to the conference room. As she entered, she saw a young man sitting at the head of the table. He was handsome, with piercing blue eyes and a charming smile.
"Hi, I'm Alex, the CEO," he said, standing up to greet her. "Please, have a seat."
Anna handed him her CV, and they began the review. Alex was impressed with her qualifications and experience, and the interview went smoothly.
"So, Miss Anderson, tell me a little about yourself." Anna took a deep breath. "Well, I'm an unmarried lady, living with my grandmother. I have previous experience as a Secretary, and I'm eager to start working again."
As they finished up, Alex smiled at her. "Well, Anna, I think you'd be a great fit for our team. Can you start tomorrow?"
Anna beamed with joy. "Yes, absolutely. Thank you so much!"
As she left the company, she saw the other candidates arriving, looking hopeful. But as she walked out the door, she heard the receptionist call out to them. "I'm sorry, folks. The position has been filled. Anna has been employed as our new Secretary."
The other candidates looked dejected, but Anna just smiled to herself. She had done it. She had landed the job, and she couldn't wait to start her new life.
As Anna left the conference room, Alex couldn't help but smile brightly. He muttered her name again, "Anna Anderson...".
He leaned back in his chair, his eyes gleaming with interest. "I like her," he thought to himself. "She's intelligent, confident, and beautiful."
Alex couldn't remember the last time he felt this way about someone. He usually didn't mix business with pleasure, but there was something about Anna that drew him in.
"I'd like to get to know her better," he thought, making a mental note to find ways to spend more time with her.
