Chapter 60

Chapter 60
As Anna's eyes scanned the file, her face crumpled in shock. Her mother, her beloved mother, had been battling brain cancer for three years? And she had reached the last stage? Anna's hand instinctively rose to cover her mouth, as if to stifle a scream.
Her eyes welled up with tears as she read on, her mind reeling with questions. Why had her mother kept this a secret from her? Why had Fernandez known about it and not told her? What was he thinking, keeping this from her?
Anna's body shook with sobs as she read the devastating news. She felt like she had been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her. She couldn't believe her mother had suffered in silence, carrying this burden alone.
Fernandez's name on the file seemed to mock her, his secrecy a betrayal. Who did he think he was, knowing about her mother's illness and not telling her? Did he think he was protecting her? Did he think she couldn't handle the truth?
Anna's pain and anger boiled over, her tears streaming down her face like a river. She felt like she was drowning in a sea of emotions, unable to keep her head above water.
She thought of all the times her mother had been distant, preoccupied, and now it made sense. She thought of all the times Fernandez had been evasive, secretive, and now it made sense.
Anna's heart felt like it was shattering into a million pieces, her world crumbling around her. She couldn't bear the thought of her mother suffering alone, and Fernandez knowing about it and not telling her.
She let out a wail, a primal scream of pain and anguish, as she collapsed onto the bed, the file still clutched in her hand tightly.
Anna stormed into the living room, her eyes blazing with fury, her fists clenched at her sides. Fernandez, still seated on the couch, looked up from his phone, his expression a mix of shock and confusion.
"How dare you?" Anna shouted, her voice echoing through the room, her words laced with venom. Fernandez's eyes widened, his brow furrowed in bewilderment.
Anna's face was a picture of pain and betrayal, her eyes red-rimmed from crying, her skin pale with rage. She stood tall, her shoulders squared, her chest heaving with emotion.
Fernandez slowly rose from the couch, his hands raised in a calming gesture. "Anna, what's wrong? What's going on?" he asked, his voice soft, but Anna was having none of it.
She slapped him, her hand connecting with his cheek with a loud crack. Fernandez's head jerked back, his eyes widening in shock.
"What the hell have I done to you?" Anna shouted, her voice hoarse with emotion. "Who are you to decide everything for me? How dare you hide this from me?"
Fernandez's face was a mask of confusion, his eyes darting back and forth as he tried to process what was happening. He took a step forward, his hand reaching out to Anna, but she slapped it away.
"Don't touch me!" she spat, her eyes blazing with fury. "You know what? I hate you!"
With that, she turned and stormed out of the hotel suite, leaving Fernandez standing alone, his cheek stinging from the slap, his mind reeling with confusion.
Fernandez touched his cheek, still trying to process the sudden outburst from Anna. "What could have caused such a reaction from her?" he wondered aloud, his brow furrowed in confusion.
He thought back to their time together, trying to recall if he had done anything to warrant such anger. He had tormented her with Olivia, Olivia fed her something she was allergic to, but she had never reacted like this before.
Fernandez's eyes narrowed as he looked towards the door Anna had stormed out of. She must have seen something that triggered her anger, but what could it be? He couldn't shake off the memory of the betrayed look on her face.
Determined to find answers, Fernandez stood up and entered the room Anna had just left. He scanned every nook and cranny, but there was nothing out of the ordinary. He rubbed his brow in frustration, feeling like he was missing something.
As he sat down on the bed, his eyes landed on a file on top of the drawer. He picked it up, and his eyes widened in shock. "What was this doing here?" he exclaimed, his mind racing.
He hadn't brought it here, so who could have? He banged his fist on the drawer when he saw the rest of his business file, shouting a loud "Damn!" He must have packed it along with the other files.
Fernandez's face paled as he realized what Anna must have seen. She wasn't supposed to see this. The file contained sensitive information about her mother's illness.
Now that she had seen it, Fernandez didn't know what to do. He felt like he had made a grave mistake, and he didn't know how to fix it. He slumped forward, his head in his hands, trying to think of a way to make things right.
Anna walked out of the hotel, her mind consumed by thoughts of her mother's illness and Fernandez's betrayal. She passed by the reception, oblivious to the butler's presence.
"Madam! Why are you here, do you need anything?" the butler asked, approaching her.
Anna didn't respond, lost in her thoughts. The butler repeated himself, louder this time. "Madam! Madam, do you hear me?"
But Anna didn't hear him. Her mind was a million miles away, wondering how her mother had kept her illness a secret, how she had dealt with the pain and suffering alone.
The butler looked at her with concern, wondering if he had done something wrong. Had he not met their expectations? Would Madam Soraya fire him?
Anna finally walked out of the hotel, into the busy streets of Dubai. Cars honked, people shouted, but Anna didn't notice. She was too lost in her thoughts, too consumed by her emotions.
As she walked, she didn't see the car speeding towards her. The driver honked repeatedly, trying to get her attention. But Anna didn't hear him. She didn't see the danger until it was almost too late.
The car was inches away from her when Anna finally snapped out of her trance. She saw the car, saw the driver's frightened face, and let out a scream. She tried to move, but her legs wouldn't respond. She was frozen in fear.
And then, everything went black. Anna fainted, collapsing onto the pavement as the car screeched to a halt just inches away from her.
