Chapter 86

Chapter 86

Anna's eyes fluttered open, and she was greeted by the sight of three men in black suits standing in her ward. They immediately bowed their heads as she looked up at them, their movements swift and synchronized.

Anna's heart skipped a beat as she wondered who they were and what they wanted. Were they here to kidnap her again? She clenched her fist to hide her fear, trying to appear braver than she felt.

She sat up in bed, her eyes narrowing as she asked, "Who are you people?"

One of the men looked up, his eyes polite and respectful. "Hello, madam. We are here on Mr. Antonio's order to take you home, as he has settled your discharge papers."

Anna breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. But her relief was short-lived, as she asked again, "Where is Fernandez? Why is he not here?"

She wanted to know if these men were truly sent by Fernandez before trusting and following them. She didn't want to take any chances, not after what had happened before.

Just then, the door to the ward opened again, and Personal Assistant Thompson entered. "Good day, madam. Mr. Antonio is very busy and asked me to get you."

Upon seeing Mr. Thompson, Anna's heart was finally at peace. She knew that Mr. Thompson was a kind and trustworthy person, and if he was here to take her home, then she could trust that everything would be okay.

But as she stood up from the bed, Anna felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. Her body leaned to the side, but Mr. Thompson was quick to support her, his hands grasping her arms to steady her.

Mr. Thompson couldn't help but feel guilty because of his boss. Ever since Mr. Antonio had come to know about Anna's miscarriage, the people at the company had been enduring his wrath. Mr. Antonio had actually instructed him to go to the hospital with two bodyguards and get Anna, without even bothering to come himself.

Mr. Thompson felt really heartbroken for Anna, wondering how Mr. Antonio could leave her like this. But he wasn't the one to say this, not if he didn't want to be looking for another job. So he kept his thoughts to himself, helping Anna to steady herself before leading her out of the ward.

Anna waved her hands and said to Mr. Thompson, "It's all right, I can manage on my own." Mr. Thompson understood that she wasn't feeling comfortable, so he nodded his head and walked slowly behind her.

One of the bodyguards opened the car door for her, and she entered into the backseat with a lot on her mind. Mr. Thompson drove the car while stealing little glances to ensure that she was okay. Even though his boss was angry and was ignoring Anna, Mr. Thompson knew that his boss would kill him if anything happened to her.

Anna could sense Mr. Thompson's gaze on her all this while, and she knew what he must be thinking. That she was pitiful? She let out a sigh. Right now, she didn't need anyone's pity.

And shortly, they arrived home. As the car entered the mansion, Anna let out a long sigh. She was going to be meeting Fernandez at square one, the cold, brutal, and emotionless man she had first met. Not the one who cared for her because of the pregnancy.

She walked inside the mansion in slow steps, her heart heavy with anxiety, until she got to the living room. And there stood the landlord of the house, Fernandez, on his seat. It came as a shock to Anna; she didn't expect to meet him at home by this time of the day. She rubbed her eyes, thinking that she was not so lucky.

He was sitting in all his glory, with his leg crossed and his laptop on his lap. He sensed her presence and stopped what he was doing. And without looking up, he said to her, "Hey, I need to make some things clear to you."

Anna became stiffened, and mentally prepared herself for what was coming next. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, and her palms growing sweaty.

"How dare you do this to me?" Fernandez's voice was cold and detached. "I have been anticipating and looking forward to the birth of this child. But no, you had to snatch him away from me. You wanted to abort him before. You must be happy, right? Congratulations."

His face was void of emotion, and he was looking at her coldly. Anna's heart tightened; he was again reminding her of her lost child and trying to blame her for it. She couldn't take it anymore; she needed to stand up for herself.

She looked up at him with hurt written all over her face. "Seriously, do you think that's who I am? Do you think I'm happy that I lost my child? I don't think you know how much your words are hurting. It's like you're stabbing a knife into my heart."

He stood up, and let out a sarcastic smile. "Oh, is that true? Right now, I think you're being melodramatic. That's the problem with you poor people; you think we rich people are fools. The mistake I've ever made is allowing you to carry my baby."

His words hurt more than pricking her with a hundred needles. Anna's eyes turned red and moist, and tears were threatening to fall from her eyes. But Fernandez didn't seem to care; he just looked at her with disdain.

"You know that this is really not my fault," Anna said, trying to defend herself.

Fernandez's expression turned even colder. "So, this is my fault? After I warned you not to work, you went ahead to work and ignored me. Guess who kidnapped you and made me lose my baby."

Anna's mouth was wide open in shock. "Alex?" she whispered, her voice trembling.

Fernandez nodded, his eyes glinting with anger. "Yes, Alex. And you know why he kidnapped you? Because you're a foolish woman who can't even follow simple instructions."

Anna felt a surge of anger, but she knew she had to keep her cool. She couldn't let Fernandez get to her, not now. She took a deep breath and tried to calm down, but her heart was still racing with anger and hurt.
