Chapter 67

Chapter 67
Anna pushed the food around her plate, her appetite suppressed by the weight of her thoughts. Reyna chatted on, oblivious to Anna's distraction, sharing stories about her job and the challenges she faced.
"And then, Bianca, Leonard's manager, she's always picking on me," Reyna said, her voice laced with frustration. "I don't know why she has it out for me, but from my theory I think she's obsessed with Leonardo Rossi."
Anna nodded, feigning interest, her mind a thousand miles away. She couldn't shake off the thought of facing Fernandez, of telling him about the pregnancy.
As the dinner drew to a close, Anna yawned, her exhaustion catching up with her. "I'm so sleepy, Reyna. I think I'll head to bed."
Reyna nodded, concern etched on her face. "You should rest, Anna. You're pregnant, after all."
Anna smiled weakly, her eyes already drooping. She made her way to her room, her body heavy with fatigue. But as she lay in bed, her mind refused to shut off. Thoughts of Fernandez, of the pregnancy, of the uncertain future swirled in her head, keeping her awake.
Just as she was starting to drift off, the door slammed open, and Fernandez strode in. Anna's heart skipped a beat as she hastily closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep. She breathed silently, her chest barely rising and falling, as Fernandez approached her bed.
He stood there for a moment, his presence looming over her, before turning and leaving the room, the door creaking shut behind him. Anna let out a sigh of relief, her heart still racing from the close call. She knew she couldn't avoid him forever, but for now, she just wanted to escape.
As Reyna snuggled under the blankets, her mind wandered to Anna and Fernandez, her thoughts consumed by their complicated situation. She prayed that they would find a way to resolve their issues amicably, that Anna would make a decision that would bring her peace and happiness. Reyna's eyes grew heavy, but her mind remained restless, her thoughts swirling with possibilities.
Meanwhile, Fernandez lay in his bed, his mind racing with questions. He couldn't shake off the feeling that Anna was hiding something from him. They had settled their misunderstanding earlier that day, but her behavior tonight had left him perplexed. She had always waited for him for dinner, even when they were at odds, but tonight, she had pretended to sleep, her lashes fluttering ever so slightly as he approached her bed.
Fernandez's eyes narrowed, his mind working overtime to unravel the mystery. He had seen the faint tremble of her lashes, the subtle rise and fall of her chest, and he knew she wasn't asleep. But why was she pretending to be? What was she hiding?
He tossed and turned, the sheets tangled around his legs, his thoughts a jumbled mess of confusion and concern. He couldn't help but wonder what was going on, what secrets Anna was keeping from him. The silence between them was deafening, and Fernandez couldn't shake off the feeling that their relationship was on the precipice of something momentous.
As the warm sunlight streamed through the window, Anna slowly opened her eyes, groggily taking in her surroundings. She stretched lazily, arching her back and extending her arms above her head. After a quick trip to the bathroom, she picked up her phone and began her descent downstairs. But as she checked the time, her eyes widened in shock - it was already 10 am! Her leg wobbled beneath her, and she felt a surge of fear as she almost lost her balance on the staircase.
Just as she was about to tumble, a strong arm wrapped around her waist, steadying her. Fernandez's face was inches from hers, his emerald green eyes sparkling with concern. Anna's breathing was rapid, her heart racing like she had just sprinted a marathon. She couldn't believe her carelessness had almost put her baby's life at risk.
As Fernandez carried her down the stairs, Anna's senses slowly returned. She gazed up at him, taking in every feature of his chiseled face - the sharp jawline, thin lips, and long nose. She couldn't help but wonder if her baby would inherit his handsome looks, but she hoped they wouldn't inherit his character.
In that moment, Anna made a decision - she would keep the baby. This tiny being was her flesh and blood, and she would protect it with every fiber of her being.
As Fernandez set her down on the floor, he asked, "Are you okay?" Anna nodded, still taking in his formal attire. "Why aren't you at work?" she asked, curiosity getting the better of her. Fernandez's expression was enigmatic, his eyes still searching hers for answers.
"I was actually waiting for you to get up," Fernandez said, his eyes locked on hers. "It seems you've been sleeping quite well lately, and I didn't want to wake you up."
Anna's cheeks flushed slightly as she replied, "You should have woken me up. I actually don't want to go to the office with you today. I wanted to visit my mother."
Fernandez's expression was understanding, and he nodded. "Okay, I'll leave you to it then." He grabbed his car keys from the table and headed towards the door.
But just as he was about to open it, he stopped in his tracks and turned back to Anna. "Are you sure you don't have anything to tell me?" he asked, his eyes searching hers for any hint of secrecy.
Anna's heart skipped a beat as she gave a nervous smile and nodded negatively. "No, nothing," she said, trying to sound nonchalant.
Fernandez's gaze lingered on hers for a moment before he turned and left the mansion. As the door closed behind him, Anna let out a sigh of relief. She wasn't ready to tell him about the baby just yet; she wanted to surprise him later.
With a newfound sense of determination, Anna made her way out of the mansion, opting for a cab instead of one of the family cars. She didn't want anyone to find out about her secret just yet; she wanted to be the one to tell Fernandez.
As the cab pulled away from the mansion, Fernandez re-entered the house, realizing he had forgotten an important file. He strode back into the foyer, his eyes scanning the room for the missing documents.
