Chapter 278
Leon sat on a chair in Ida's office at the resort, looking at Sebastian through FaceTime.
Ida and Cody stood quietly behind him.
"Boss, he's not admitting to the cargo. He claimed Vale was his stepfather and was cheating him, trying to pin his own drug dealing on Leon. But the explosion confirms someone is trying to take him out," Ida finished his explanation.
"So, you were found with Vale's dead body almost at the time of his death, but you claim you didn't kill him..." Sebastian sighed, glancing at Zeno beside him.
"We don't believe you," Sebastian said.
Leon clenched his jaw, tapping his feet impatiently.
"Of course, you won't Sebastian. But just don't turn me in yet. If the forensics says I did it, I'll take responsibility. If not, I just need to find my shipment," Leon said, his face serious.
"And what's the shipment?" Sebastian asked.
Leon scoffed, "What's my line of business, dear friend?" He questioned.
Sebastian narrowed his eyes, "Clothing? Textile?" He shrugged.
"And where do my textiles come from?"Come asked again.
"Alright, hold on, detective, I'm asking the questions here, not you. So speak," Sebastian stated, glaring at Leon through the phone.
"I got a report about Vale's involvement with drugs and trafficking, if the shipment you're talking about involves white substances or humans, I suggest you save our time and just spill." Sebastian's voice was cold.
Leon sighed, "Yes, the shipment in question does in fact involve white substances –"
"I knew it!" Cody snapped his fingers.
"Chill, soldier, I'm not finished," Leon frowned, shaking his head.
"Really, you want to tell us that this is your first time –"
"Cody," Sebastian's sharp voice called.
Cody immediately shut his mouth, clearing his throat, "Sorry, boss." He apologised.
Leon sighed and continued, "The shipment is probably half coke and half my textiles. Vale has shipped textiles for me for over five years from Mexico, and I only recently realised that he used my name and money to ship other illegal things. I wanted to confront him today, but I guess someone else got him before I did," he shrugged.
"I mean, this case isn't a hard one. Kendrick obviously poisoned Vale to inherit his dark Web business. He must have timed my vision and poisoned him just when I arrived, making me look like the culprit. But, like I said, don't take my word for it, the forensics will decide the truth," Leon said, gently tapping his fingers on his thigh.
"Then you stay in my resort, Leon. Until the results are out. About your cargo, don't worry, it will be retrieved soon and returned only if your alibi checks out. Let him walk free, guys," Sebastian instructed.
Leon smirked, "You look good, Zeno –"
"Don't make me change my mind," Sebastian interrupted.
Leon raised his hands in surrender, "No harm intended. I'll be out, watching the sunset." He stood and, tapped Cody's shoulder and walked out of the office.
"Hey," Zeno waved at Cody, "Can we talk, alone?" He asked.
Cody glanced at Ida and nodded, "Sure." He took the phone from the desk and walked out of the office, walking along the dimly lit passage.
"What's up," Cody questioned.
"Ida," Zeno stated clearly.
Cody sighed, "What about Ida, Zeno?" He asked tiredly.
"Anything happened yet?" Zeno whispered, he could be seen smiling at Cody through the screen.
"Really, Zeno? After everything I told you, you still think something can happen after that?" He asked, leaning his shoulder against the wall.
Zeno scoffed, "Sebastian and I happened, anyone could happen, too. Talk to him, Cody –"
"I appreciate your concern, Zeno, but... I'm not talking to Ida. We're just working buddies and that's what we're going to be forever –"
"Boring..." Sebastian's voice rang out beside Zeno, causing Cody to blush in embarrassment.
"Don't say that, Papi. Nothing is Boring about Cody, or Ida-hey! Give the –"
"You're taking my husband's time," Sebastian's unsmiling face suddenly appeared on Cody's screen.
Cody almost choked, parting his lips to speak but no words came out.
"Save your excuse, Cody. As a command, I order you to speak to Ida. Tell him how you really feel, where he hurt you, or how you think you've hurt him. I expect a pleasing result by tomorrow morning," Sebastian instructed sternly.
"Yes b..." his words died in his throat as Sebastian ended the call on him.
"What the fuck..." Cody whispered, biting his lip as he thought of what had just happened.
Did Sebastian indirectly force him to make up with Ida?
"I'm ready whenever you are," Ida said behind Cody.
Cody was startled, snapping his head behind him to glare at Ida.
"Seriously? You followed me?" He asked, pushing his phone into his pocket.
"I was curious –"
"That's not cool," He pointed a finger at Ida.
"I'm sorry," Ida gently wrapped his hand around Cody's fingers and stepped closer, "So? Do you want to talk?" He asked softly.
Cody's heart somersaulted in his chest, his breath hitching, his head spinning.
It's been ages since he heard Ida speak to him in that darned soft tone, and that look in his eyes...Cody was literally losing his mind.
"Don't touch me yet," Cody stepped away from Ida, frowning.
Ida smirked, "Yet? I like the sound of that. It means I get to touch you soon?" He asked, taking another step to get closer to Cody.
Cody inhaled quietly, "What are you even doing?" He asked calmly.
Ida turned serious, "Trying to see if you still have feelings for me." He answered honestly.
Cody gulped, looking away from Ida, his pulse racing, "You broke up with me," he finally started something, he had to start something.
Ida shook his head, "I didn't... well, not technically, we both agreed to take a break, and if we still felt the same way for each other –"
"Excuse me," Cody pulled out his ringing phone and answered immediately.
"Hello, Royal? Yes, I'll be there shortly," he said and lifted his face to Ida, "I guess we'll talk some other time." He nodded at him and walked away.
Ida stood there for a while, staring at the wall in front of him. He wasn't angry, he was happy.
Cody mentioned their relationship, which means there was hope for them. It means that Cody's unbothered acts that have been eating at his soul for days were nothing but an act.
"Some other time, right? I'll wait," he murmured, leaning off the wall to trail Cody.
It wasn't stalking, he was just making sure his presence wasn't forgotten.
