Chapter 49
"Sure, Abbey, here," he gave her his phone to input her number.
"Call me," Abbey returned his phone to him and quickly gave him a soft kiss on the lips before walking away.
"Alright, she's bold," Ida said with a chuckle.
Zeno blinked, still trying to understand what happened. Things were moving very fast on his end. This wasn't what he expected at all.
But, it was good. Abbey could be the one to lead them to Darren's secret.
Zeno was super glad that Linda wasn't at the reception as they were leaving. He wasn't ready to face her annoying glances and words.
"So, we are heading back to the mansion already. I thought I would get you to watch you perform...sad," Ida teased.
Zeno sent him a death glare and walked away from him.
"Zeno, the van is that way," He pointed in the opposite direction.
"I know, I'm not going back to the mansion yet," Zeno replied.
Ida frowned, "Not coming back? Are you joking?" He asked.
Zeno paused and turned back to him, "I have some things to check on; I'll be back before you know it," Zeno shrugged.
Ida shook his head. "You're missing the point, it's not about me...the boss, he'd be mad finding out you deviated from the mission. Unless you're ready to receive a few punches from him," Ida asked dreadfully.
Zeno sighed, "Punches it is, then," He tapped Ida's shoulders before walking in the opposite direction.
"Hop in, boy. Let him be..." Lucia quietly rolled the Van to a stop beside Ida.
Ida entered, feeling bad in advance for what Zeno might face from Sebastian's wrath.
Zeno reached the hospital and went right to Doc. Ezra's office.
He knocked.
"Come in," Doc. Ezra replied from inside the office.
Zeno opened the door and went in.
"Good afternoon, Doctor, " Zeno greeted as he lowered himself in front of the table.
"Zeno, you look well," Doc. Ezra commented.
Zeno smiled slightly, "I just hope my Nana is looking well too," He spoke politely.
"I know I've only been able to pay a little more money since then, but from now on, the money will be coming in monthly, and I hope it'll be enough to treat her," Zeno explained, looking worried.
Doc. Ezra chuckled. "Don't worry, Zeno. Your grandma is doing well. And, you can take your time with the payment, we'll do our best with her," He assured.
"Can I see her?" He asked.
Doc. Ezra slowly shook his head. "But I have a video for you." He slid Zeno a small flash.
"This is from yesterday's recording. You'd be happy with what you're about to watch," Doc. Ezra informed.
Zeno wasn't entirely happy that he didn't get to see his Nana, but he was eager to see what happened in the video.
"Thank you, Doctor," Zeno said and stood, taking the flash with him before he left the office.
Outside the hospital, Zeno walked aimlessly down the street, he didn't want to go back to Sebastian yet. He needed to clear his head from all the drama surrounding Sebastian.
His life has never been this chaotic as it was with Sebastian. He had even come to realize that he was capable of being attracted to other men...to Sebastian. It frustrated him, and he hoped that he could still go back to normal after parting with Sebastian.
However, a small part of him doubted that; for him not to have reacted to Abbey raised red flags inside his head; maybe it was because of her job and the whole environment. If he saw her outside of her workplace and paid more attention to her, maybe he would finally feel an attraction for her.
He decided that he was going to give Abbey a chance, even though she was part of the reason he didn't want to go back to Sebastian yet; he felt like he couldn't face him after kissing Abbey; he felt as if he had done wrong by him. Still, he was going to give Abbey a chance, not like a relationship chance, but something similar to what he had going on with Sebastian...a fling.
He needed to get his sexuality back on track.
Honk! Honk!
Zeno immediately hopped out of the way when he heard the loud honk behind him. He looked around and realized that he'd walked quite far away from the hospital.
He looked back and saw a familiar car slowly rolling to a stop behind him.
He wanted to mind his business and keep walking ahead but he stopped when he saw Nicholas come out from the car.
"Zeno," Nicholas waved as he walked up to Zeno.
"Hello, Mr. NIcholas," Zeno greeted politely.
"Please, Call me Nicholas, Zeno," Nicholas offered him a handshake, smiling at him.
Zeno reluctantly shook his hand. "I'll keep that in mind," he told him.
"Um, It was nice seeing you again, I'll be on my way, then," Zeno nodded at him and started to walk away.
"Wait, wait, wait. I'll drop you off," Nicholas quickly caught up with Zeno.
Zeno sighed quietly, he didn't want this. He just didn't want to associate with anyone related to Sebastian at the moment.
He saw the restaurant beside him and quickly came up with an excuse.
"It's alright, I don't want to delay you; I still want to order some lunch here, and it'll probably take a while," Zeno nodded, proud of himself.
Nicholas gave him a mischievous smirk. "That won't be a problem; after all, it's my restaurant; you'll get your order immediately, come on," Nicholas held Zeno's hand and led him into the restaurant.
Zeno knew that he'd just shot himself in the foot. Before he entered the restaurant, he looked up and saw the name of the restaurant; 'NICK'S CUISINE was boldly staring at him, and he felt dumb for not taking cognizance of it in the first place.
Just as Nicholas said, the moment the waiter saw Nicholas, they immediately attended to him and asked him for his order, and in the next minute, they were heading back to Nicholas' car with a bag of food in his hands.
They arrived inside Sebastian's compound just at the same time he was walking out of the bodyguard's quarter with Ida behind him.
'Shit, here comes trouble,' Zeno said as he saw Sebastian's unsmiling face.
He got down from the car and thanked Nicholas, "Thank you, Nicholas." He said politely.
Nicholas chuckled. "You can be informal with me, Zeno, I'm not like him," he pointed to Sebastian, knowing that Sebastian heard him.
Zeno immediately turned to Sebastian who was now standing beside Nicholas, but he was surprised to see his indifferent face. He didn't look a tad bit angry, and he wasn't even looking his way.
"Bring it in, Nicholas," Sebastian said and walked away, not sparing Zeno a single glance.
Ida shook his head at Zeno before following Sebastian inside.
Zeno didn't know why, but he kind of felt hurt that Sebastian had ignored him. Not even a hateful comment on his uninformed disappearance.
"Come on, Zeno. I specifically visited you today; take me to your room. Yeah," Nicholas held Zeno's hand and led him inside.
Zeno followed, absent-minded, his thoughts were tied around Sebastian's attitude. He could feel it...something wasn't right with him.
