Chapter Ten
Claire sat still for a few precious moments after the door clicked shut, trying to make sense of what just happened.
She had no idea what humans did to Alpha King Lukas to make him hate them so. She wasn’t judging him for that because she wasn’t dense, she knew that there were a lot of humans who viewed werewolves exactly like he described.
It just that Claire had never seen them that way, they were just like normal people to her with a few extra features. But for a moment when she saw the terrifying look of anger on Lukas’ face as he stared at her, she nearly gave into the stereotype.
She shook herself out of it though, she still hated her current situation and would keep trying to escape whenever she got the chance to but she wasn’t going to do it because Lukas was a werewolf but because she didn’t want to get married to him. A human would definitely do the same if not worse, if he were arranged to get together with someone he didn’t like instead of the fated love of his life.
Claire understood Lukas’ anger but she couldn’t support it because she was on the recieving end, and honestly she wished he would just let her go. They were both victims in this.
The time limit given to Claire by Lukas made her started moving, she cleaned up first in the bathroom before checking out the *‘outfit’* that Lukas had apparently gotten for her.
The dress was beautifully packaged and it caused a twinge in Claire’s middle, she quickly squashed it knowing that Lukas probably just ordered someone to get it and personally had no hand in it.
The thought of that made her mood sour even though she refused to acknowledge it, she could only blame the *‘Fated mate bond’* for mixing up her feelings when it came to Lukas.
It wasn’t going to stop her from trying to leave again though, she wasn’t sure what Lukas told her parents so it wouldn’t be safe to return home when she finally escaped.
She would just have to reach out to her college friends and then go to stay with them until this all blows over. Hopefully if she was out of his sight, Lukas would realize that she was only a waste of his time and get over her.
Sighing, Claire opened up the package and pulled out an exquisite black dress. It looked like what the love interest in a James Bond movie would wear and was a fashion risk for Claire.
She mostly wore jeans and comfortable shirts or floral print dresses. It wasn’t that she had anything against stylish clothes but it was simply the kind of clothes that she was accustomed to wearing and they worked fine for her.
For the first time, the realization that she had truly being taken from her mundane world and thrust into one of werewolf royalty hit her hard. She had to clutch the dress to herself for a few seconds and just breathe.
She had a time limit though so there was no time to panic about wearing something so outlandish. The black dress had a high slit cut into the left side, it was also lowback and the neck dipped to show cleavage. It was the last thing that Claire would willingly wear.
She wasn’t given an option though and it had already been twenty-five minutes since Lukas left, she didn’t have much time left. So she slipped into the dress, refusing to look at herself in the mirror afterwards.
Because looking in a mirror was only going to finalize the fact that she was truly wearing a scandalous dress and she would lose her spine, and she wouldn’t be able to wear it out.
So she just grabbed a brush and ran it through her hair blindly, gathering up her hair because she didn’t have the time nor the energy to deal with it. Afterwards, she pronounced herself ready and started for the door.
Claire wasn’t a make-up kind of girl, or more like she was the kind of girl who thought that powder, blush and some lipgloss was all she needed.
The hotel actual provided an impressive array of popular and expensive make-up products but once again, Claire didn’t have the time nor the energy to even put anything on.
She just grabbed a fancy looking lipgloss and was on her way. The first thing she did when she got to the door was try it and to her surprise it was locked, she knocked next, expectant.
The door swung open to reveal nervous-looking guards who bowed as soon as they saw her.
“Miss Claire, this was please.” One of the guards said formally. It was the guard that Claire had asked to get a dessert for her and she almost felt bad about tricking him like that, *‘almost’.*
Sleek black heels had been provided with the dress and it made Claire nervous because she wasn’t good with walking on heels, the last thing she needed was falling face down in a room of werewolves.
For the first time, Claire actually put some thought into the kind of dining hall it was going to be. There was a lot on her plate so there hadn’t been time to worry about it earlier. Would it be just her and Lukas or was it a dining room provided for the entire resort? Which meant that there would be lot of people around.
Although she was a tight ball of nerves, she would pick a room full of werewolves over Lukas. The guards said nothing to her, and she returned the energy. They had no hand in her current situation so she didn’t want to drag them into her mess.
They led her though a series of hallways that she couldn’t hope to remember and stopped in front of two large doors which had quite a number of werewolves going in.
Claire instantly attracted stares but she couldn’t tell if it was because she was human or because of the dress? No, it was definitely because she was human.
She hadn’t known earlier because she didn’t know a lot about werewolves but Alpha King Lukas had mentioned to her that werewolves could smell humans even from a distance. It made her feel a little stupid because she thought she was blending in perfectly the entire time meanwhile she was a walking red strobelight.
