Chapter Eighty
Claire woke up slowly, she wasn't sure if she woke up by herself or if someone roused her. Her vision was blurry when she first regained consciousness, her head heavy.
"I see you're up." A familiar voice said, making her whip her head up in shock.
"Roman!" She tried to say but her voice came out as a croak.
Claire tried to make a move, perhaps to run away but she found that she couldn't move. A quick glance down at her body showed that she was strapped down to a chair, the chair seemed to be bolted to the ground which meant that it was prepared for this very thing.
She looked around the room she was in next, Roman Bancroft was leaning against the wall next to her, just watching her silently. The room was dimly lit by a low hanging bulb which casted a lot of shadows in the room.
Claire could barely make out what the room looked like with the minimal lighting, it made her very nervous. "What do you want from me?" She demanded.
She would never had guessed that he would be the one to orchestrate her kidnapping. She knew that the Bristish Alpha King has always been dangerous but to go as far as to have her kidnapped? What did he hope to get from her?
"It not what I want from you but what I can use you to get." Roman said calmly, not moving from his spot against the wall.
He wore a trench coat over his outfit, and Claire couldn't make out his expression because of how dark the room was.
Claire felt her blood run cold - *Lukas* - It had to be Lukas. They were trying to use her as bait to get him.
This made Claire laugh despite herself and the scary situation she was currently in. "Then you've made a gross miscalculation, Lukas doesn't care about me." She said with conviction, so much so that Roman moved uneasily.
Claire fell silent after her announcement, watching Roman light up a cigar. This action brightened his face briefly and she could see the terrifying expression on his face, it made her flinch.
"That'll put a hole in our plans." Another eerily familiar voice spoke up from somewhere else in the dim room making Claire jolt in fear.
She remembered who that was, it was the werewolf that had taken her away.
Roman made a harsh sound of dismissal, "We'll go on with our plans." He said tightly.
"But..." The other werewolf hesitated. "What if he doesn't show up?"
"He will." Roman said with as much conviction as Claire, puffing out a large ring of smoke.
Claire had to swallow back her scoff, if anything, Lukas would be probably happy to get rid of her. He wasn't going to walk right into a trap just to save her, she knew that well.
"I told you, its a waste of your time." Claire spoke up again. "If you wanted Lukas' attention, you would have be better off taking someone els-" Her words were cut off sharply when Roman quickly crossed the space between them and put his face right in front of hers.
They were mere inches apart now and the close proximity made her choke on cigar smoke.
"If you're trying to divert my attention, it's not going to work, Claire." Roman said her name smooth and airy, like a mouthful of smoke. "Lukas will come." He repeated, trailing a hand down her face and neck until he found the freshly bitten mark at the juncture of her neck.
Claire gasped involuntarily when the pads of Roman's fingers brushed over the sensitive spot, a shudder running through her.
"He wouldn't have marked you if he wasn't." Roman straightened up and Claire could see his nose wrinkle, "You smell like him, it makes me sick."
Claire tried to lean back to put some space in between them, she wasn't sure of what Roman was talking about but the one thing she was sure of was that Lukas wasn't coming. The mark or whatever was simply something done to make her feel horrible, there was no special sentiment attached to it.
She looked warily from Roman to the other werewolf that had merged into the shadows again, he stood so still that if she hadn't seen him before, she wouldn't have guessed that there was someone in the shadows.
*'What would they do to her when Lukas didn't show up?'* She could maybe trust Roman to keep her alive because he didn't seem to have any inclination to kill her but the huge werewolf hiding in the shadows was a different head case.
Claire could tell right from the moment they first met that he had a deep visceral hatred for humans. She would definitely not be safe if she was left to him.
Roman blew another puff of smoke right in her face like he was trying to replace her scent with cigar smoke. Claire didn't find this funny, coughing and choking on the thick smoke.
"What are you going to do with her after we get Lukas?" The burly werewolf asked quietly after a long silence filled with Claire hacking and gagging.
Claire fell silent at this, this was something she also wanted to know. She waited tensely for Roman's answer, instinctively sensing that he would be the one to decide her fate no matter what.
Roman took a couple leisure puffs of his fat cigar like he had all the time in the world. "I'll take her off your hands, you don't need to worry about that."
Claire felt her blood run cold at Roman's words. *'What did he mean by that? What was he going to do to her?'*
She didn't dare to breathe, holding her breath as he turned around and walked in the direction of what seemed to be the door of the room she was in. The other werewolf followed behind him, they intended to leave her all alone in this dark room!
Claire wondered how they could see their way when she literally couldn't see anything a few feet from her. She let her head hang in defeat when the door clicked shut. *'There was no one to save her this time'*
