SEQUEL: FIFTEEN
Alina and Madeline decided to not fly down to Silverfall City till the next day, driving right to Iyla’s address from the airport.
It was easy for Madeline to arrange a car for them which was delivered right to the airport for them. She had lost her phone when they fell for Iyla’s lies when instead of a fancy underground club, they had nearly been auctioned off as slaves.
So it was up to Alina to give directions from the map on her phone, they were using the address from the information that Roman had found for them.
The airport was in the main part of the city but the map led them away from the city and after nearly an hour of driving, they found themselves on the outskirts, driving down the interstate on a lonely road.
“Are you sure you gave me the right directions?” Madeline asked with a frown, slowly down in caution.
Alina had a similar expression on her face, “I’m a hundred percent sure, we put in the address together, didn’t we? I‘m just telling you what the map says.” She defended herself. “It says her house is just up ahead.”
Madeline kept driving although her instincts said otherwise, “Do you really think anyone actually lives here?” She voiced her concerns.
There was nothing but foliage on either side of the empty road, it was already noon but even then, they were the only ones on the part of the interstate. It didn’t look like there were any houses around, and even if there were, no one would live in such a remote area.
Alina scowled, “So Roman had given us the wrong information after all, how are we sure he even got the right person?”
“He didn’t” Madeline immediately defended him, “He showed me the files that his personal assistant sent and all the pictures matched Iyla, there was no way he would have gotten the address wrong.”
Alina scoffed, “Or maybe he did this specifically to get back at me,” She went right on, refusing to be convinced.
Madeline personally felt that she wouldn’t blame Roman if he did that considering all that Alina had done to him, “That’s highly unlikely, Iyla might just be a weirdo that lives in the middle of nowhere.”
Alina fell silent, that was a possibility that she hadn’t considered, it made their little expedition feel dangerous. Maybe they shouldn’t have underestimated someone like Iyla who had an in with a dangerous gang group like The Underground.
Just then, a small cottage came into view, making Madeline speed up. “That has to be the place for sure,” She said with excitement, relieved that their journey was over.
Alina however, didn’t share her enthusiasm but before she could tell Madeline her reservations, she had already pulled over to the side of the road, driving right onto the grass in front of the quiet house.
“Is something wron-” Madeline started to ask but she didn’t get very far because a shot rang out, making them both instinctively duck with muffled screams.
“Oh my fucking god!” Madeline whispered in horror, quickly trying to reverse.
“What the fuck was that?” Alina asked in turn, her eyes wide in a panic.
Madeline couldn’t reply because she quickly figured out what that random gunshot had been for, “The car’s tire has been shot.” She quickly relayed, stopping the car before she lost control of it and sent them careening into the asphalt.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck… It was a fucking trap.” Alina cursed under her breath, staring into her phone. She had no idea what was about to happen but she needed to call for help nonetheless.
They were trapped here now because one of the car’s tires had been punctured by a fucking bullet, it was only a matter of time before whoever had shot at the car aimed at them.
“Ho-How…” Madeline stuttered, confounded.
“Iyla, it has to be that fucking bitch,” Alina snarled. As much as she despised Roman, she knew for a fact that he would never try to hurt her or pose a danger to her.
“What are you doing?” Madeline asked in a fearful voice when she noticed Alina scrolling furiously on her phone.
“Trying to call for help?”
“The police?” Madeline immediately suggested.
Alina had thought about that but there were several reasons why that was a bad idea, firstly, they had come here of their own volition because they planned to get revenge on Iyla, which wasn’t exactly a great reason to give the police.
Not to mention, Alina wasn’t supposed to be in Silverfall City, and Madeline was supposed to be on a vacation on an obscure Island. Even they knew their limits when they stirred up trouble.
“I thought as much,” Madeline muttered grimly at the look that her friend gave her, “Alpha King Lukas then?” She immediately suggested.
That would be the best choice honestly, they were in his territory and it would only take him a short time to get to them but that was under the assumption that he was actually in Silverfall.
“I can’t do that,” Alina replied in a strained whisper.
Madeline had to physically clamp her lips shut to keep her words in, she wanted to tell Alina much like she always wanted to that she didn’t have to listen to her father all the time, she was grown and could pretty much do what she wanted.
It didn’t help that she couldn’t even call her own father because he never picked up his calls or showed up for her, so what was the use of listening to someone that didn’t even care?
Alina’s thoughts were running down the same lines but she physically couldn’t bring herself to go against her father, she simply couldn’t. If he didn’t want her to not speak to Lukas, then she couldn’t, she would just have to come up with another solution.
However, she wasn’t given the chance to do that because another shot rang out, smashing through the window of the backseat this time and making them scream in horror.
“We can’t remain here,” Madeline said, near tears.
Without thinking, Alina dialed Roman’s number. Her father had given it to her but she had always thought that she would never have a reason to use it, until now.
