Chapter Fifteen

Claire roused slowly, a furrow on her brows as she slowly regained consciousness. She blinked open her eyes and immediately squinted from how bright it was.
She stared up at the ceiling, frowning at how familiar it was. Her memories leading up till that moment were a little foggy so she was confused for a few moments.
Lukas let out a breath he didn’t know he had been holding in. “Have a nice nap?” He asked quietly.
Claire’s head snapped to the side to stare at the person that had spoken and immediately she saw Lukas, her memories came tumbling back unbidden.
“You.” Claire narrowed her eyes at Lukas, if she could scramble backwards to put some distance in between them, she would.
“I take it that you missed me…”
“How long was I out of it?” Claire sat up slowly, ignoring his words.
“Just a few hours…” Lukas’ trailed off to stare at his phone. “Also your parents are here to see you.”
“What?” Claire half leapt from the bed in shock. “Where are they??”
“Slow down,” Lukas got up from a chair beside the bed, sitting beside her on the bed.
Claire flinched when he cupped her face. “Don’t touch me.” She snapped at him.
Lukas made no move to take away his hand. “It’s bad rep for me if people find out my fiancee keeps trying to run away.”
Claire scoffed. “I’m not getting married to you.”
“You don’t want to disappoint your parents, do you?” He teased, seeming to enjoy the situation a lot.
Claire’s hair had been gathered up to make space for the bandage wrapped around her head, her make-up had been wiped off and she was changed out of the torn black dress she previously had on.
“What are you talking about?” She narrowed her eyes. “I don’t know what lies you fed my parents but they’re not going to believe some stranger over their own daughter.”
Lukas grinned. “Of course, they’re not. That’s why you’re going to be the one doing the lying.”
Claire’s eyes widened in horror. “Wha-What do you mean?”
Lukas placed his other hand around her waist to curb her plans of trying to scramble away from him, his hand that had been previously cupping her face slipping lower to wrap around her neck.
“Who do you think I am, Claire?” He asked in a sinister voice, his eyes darkening. “I can ruin your parents’ lives and everything they worked hard for with a single word, do I need to explain myself further?”
Claire was unable to speak for a few moments, tears filling her leaf green eyes as she stared up at Lukas. “Y-You despicable low-life.” She whispered in pain, forcing back her tears.
Lukas had a satisfied smile on his face. “I’m happy we could come to an agreement.” He said calmly, choking her slightly. “Now we need to get our lies straight for your parents' sake.”
Claire didn’t say a word after that, glaring at Lukas. She feared that if she tried to say anything, she would end up crying.
Lukas decided on what they would tell her parents and Claire was forced to follow along for their sake. She thought she would be able to get back at Lukas now that she was finally allowed to see her parents but she should have known better; Lukas was a scheming devil.
Claire laid back down silently on the bed when Lukas went out of the master suite to invite her parents in. She fought valiantly to hold back her tears as her mother called her name fearfully and hurried forward.
“Oh, Sunshine,” Julia sighed miserably, hurrying to her daughter’s side. “Lukas told us what happened, I’m so glad he was able to find you on time.” She murmured with tear-filled eyes, hugging Claire.
Claire closed her eyes in defeat, she couldn’t risk her parents safety to save her own skin. She had gotten herself into Lukas’ claws after all, she was an adult now, she had to deal with her problems herself. She couldn’t keep relying on her parents.
“I’m sorry for worrying you, mom.” Claire managed to say clearly, she had been worried that her shaky voice would give her away.
The story that Lukas had decided they go with was that she went on a little forest walk and lost her way, and unfortunately she fell into a pit but luckily Lukas found her in time and saved her.
Claire had to fight the urge to scoff; save her? All that Lukas had ever done was ruin her.
Lukas was at the peak of his charming personality when her parents were around, he truly looked like he was distressed by her injuries. He also didn’t let Claire speak too long with her mom, sending them off with promises to take the best care of her.
Claire turned away from the door when her parents left. She was thoroughly drained, the horrors of her day catching up with her. It was only early in the afternoon but she wished that the day would end.
Her tears that she had struggled to hold back the entire time her parents were around started to fall. Claire cried silently, wrapping her arms around herself to console herself because there was no one else to do it for her.
Lukas came in and joined her on the bed, pulling her close to cuddle her. His touch was gentle and he made sure to avoid her injuries.
This only made Claire cry louder but she couldn’t push him away, he was the reason she was like this but she didn’t have the strength to fight him anymore.
“Will you be happier if I’m dead?” Claire sobbed out, hiding her face in Lukas’ chest.
Lukas gingerly tilted her face so he could look in her eyes. Tears made her eyes glisten beautifully, her nose an adorable red. “I wouldn’t, little human. I’ll never let you go, not even to the hands of death.” He whispered, kissing her forehead.
