Chapter Sixteen
Claire’s injuries from the incident healed quickly. Luckily her head injury had no other consequences and the cut in her leg wasn’t too deep.
After her parents left and she had the entire scene with Lukas, she didn’t see him again. Fortunately, she got her phone back so she could communicate with her parents and her not so great friend Rachel.
Claire didn’t really have a lot of close friends in college, she was the type that kept to herself and everyone knew her as the nice loner. She hung out with a group of classmates and roommates but their relationship was built on similar interests, considering that they all lived and learned in the same space.
Right now, she just woke up from an afternoon nap, it was all she ever did, eat, watch television and sleep. Lukas didn’t allow her to leave the suite and honestly, Claire wasn’t sure she wanted to leave.
Going outside would only remind her of the freedom she had lost. She even insisted on keeping the blinds closed because she didn’t want to look outside the glass walls.
Claire’s bandages were taken off two days ago and she was more or less fully healed. It had been four days since the incident in the woods and Claire was still having a hard time believing that she had been stuck in the resort for the entire time.
She got out of bed, yawning softly as she shucked her robes closer. She glanced at the ornate clock on the wall and saw that the time was five, fifty-three. She didn’t have to open the blinds to know that the sun was starting to set.
Her dinner would be brought soon but Claire didn’t have an appetite, she was just drained. How long was Alpha King Lukas planning on keeping her here? Did he not have anything better to do like run a whole country instead of wasting time on her?
A knock rapped on the door to the suite and without sparing the door a look, she responded. “Just leave it in the sitting area.” She spoke dismissively to who she thought was a bodyguard bringing her dinner.
“Are you sure about that?” An amused voice spoke after the door swung open and shut.
Claire had been heading to the connecting bathroom but after hearing that voice that had haunted her dreams and everyone of her waking hours, she whipped around. “What do you want?”
Lukas chuckled, dressed in formal clothes as usual. “Always so hostile, is that anyway to treat your Prince Charming?”
Clare decided then and there that she didn’t have the energy to deal with him. *‘Her Prince Charming? What a cruel joke?’* He had literally ignored her all this while!
She just continued her journey to the bathroom, deciding to ignore him in return, two could play at that game.
What Claire didn’t expect was for Lukas to calmly follow her into the bathroom, leaning against the closed door and staring straight at her with an unruffled expression.
After returning his gaze for a full minute, she cracked and gave in. “Fine,” She sighed, trying to go for a nicer tone. “Do you need something?”
Lukas only had two reactions for her, he either looked mockingly amused by her or irritated. Now he had an expression of mocking amusement on his handsome face. “You wouldn’t be able to provide it even if I did.” He said cruelly, his words cutting into her. “You’ll be having dinner with me, be down in half an hour.”
Claire didn’t make a move till Lukas was gone, and he didn’t waste any time leaving like he would contract something from her if he spent too much time around her.
Claire slid down the glass wall of the bathroom stall, she was still outside of it, in her robe. Spending just a few minutes around Lukas was enough to drain her of all her energy, dinner with him would be extremely unbearable.
She forced herself to her feet though, this stopped being a series of unfortunate incidents when her parents were dragged into it. She would do anything so keep them safe, even if it meant having dinner with the devil himself.
Unsurprisingly, there was a new dress laid out on the bed for her. This outfit was a short midnight blue, body-fitting dress. It had way too many straps and revealed even more skin than the last outfit.
There was a new pair of black stilettos considering that she lost the last one in the woods during her disaster of an escape. Somehow she managed to put the dress on and get into the heels without falling over, which was a feat in itself. She ran a brush through her hair and pronounced herself ready, heading for the door.
It swung open before she could touch it and Lukas was standing on the other side of the door, staring down expectantly at her.
This made Claire flinch, she hadn’t been expecting him to return. She clenched her fists and straightened her shoulders, she wasn’t just going to roll over to her back and allow Lukas do as he wished. He might have her cornered now but he hadn’t broken her spirit.
“I came to get you for our dinner, we’ll be having it at a different venue tonight.” He said politely, almost nicely.
This made Claire extra cautious, she could handle Lukas easily when he was being his cold and unfeeling self but when he turned his charm on her like this, she had a much harder time.
She remained quiet, unwilling to give him ammunition to use against her.
Lukas reached out to touch Claire’s hair, the wild blonde locks were left down her bare shoulders. It was soft, so very soft, and slightly damp. “It’s always a shame to see such a delicate neck bare.” He murmured, letting his fingers drop from her hair to her throat.
Claire gulped, staring wide-eyed at Lukas. *‘He couldn’t possibly mean to give her another necklace with a tracker placed in it?’* And the worst part was that she couldn’t refuse it.
