Chapter Ninety

Alec made his way back to his office, thinking that he finally had some time to take a breather only to get a call on his phone just as he pushed open the door. The details of the phone call made him want to throw his phone at the far wall of his lavish office.
“What do you mean she’s demanding to be let in? Alpha Lukas isn’t allowing anyone in the mansion at the moment.” He said sternly, a trace of weariness in his voice.
Rosie had been waiting for him to return and when she heard Alec’s words, she straightened up in her seat, a furrow on her brow.
After a couple more back and forths, Alec hung up and muttered curses under his breath as he made his way to his chair.
Rosie watched him curiously, “What was that about?”
On a normal day, she wouldn’t have been able to brazenly ask Alec a question like that but the past hours had speedrun them to a level of familiarity that would have normally taken months.
“Alina Costin.” Alec muttered darkly, still glaring at his phone. “The guards are having a difficult time with her, I might have to go out myself.” He added, massaging his temples.
Rosie placed a hand on Alec’s desk, her expression serious. “Let me do it,” She said instead, “Luna Claire might have taught me a thing or two on how to handle her.”
Alec looked skeptical at this, Rosie had to be well aware of how impossible Alina was. Alec couldn’t believe how shameless she could be to keep hanging around Lukas when he was clearly mated. He agreed to Rosie’s offer nonethless because frankly he had no other options.
“Besides, if it doesn’t work all I have to do is call up Alpha King Costin.” She rose to her feet with a suave shrug of her shoulders, striding out.
Alec preferred to handle his responsiblities alone but he found that he didn’t mind Rosie helping him out. Sighing deeply, he rested his head against the hard surface of his desk, needing to rest his eyes for a bit.
Rosie strode out of the mansion with purpose, although she was in casual clothing, she put on a formal air on as she bid the bodyguards to let her outside.
There she found Alina impatiently tapping a heel on the gravel, storm clouds rolling over her head as she stomped over the moment she noticed someone leaving the gate.
“What is this disrespect? When have I never been let into Lukas’ place?” She lashed out, her bleached blonde hair in an elaborate hairstyle.
Rosie remained calm in the face of her fury, she wasn’t required to be respectful to the werewolf princess of another country, especially when said princess was blatantly disrespecting her Luna Queen.
“Ever since Alpha Lukas ordered for you not to,” She countered calmly, “If you would like an appointment, I could…”
“I don’t want a bloody appointment, I want to see Lukas!” Alina cut her off, her eyes flashing.
Rosie was confident that the werewolf princess was all bark and no bite, “I’m afraid that’s not possible, he’s not receiving visitors at the moment.”
“Is it because he’s with that filthy hum-”
“He’s with his mate, yes.” Rosie cut her off, starting to get irritated as well. “I could have you turned away for insulting the Luna Queen, on Alpha King Lukas’ orders.”
Alina choked at this, her heavily made-up face turning a bright red. “Fine.” She gritted out, clutching her purse tighter. “I’d like to see Luna Queen Claire, you’re her assistant no? Make that happen.” She snapped her fingers at Rosie.
“Certainly,” Rosie said smoothly, “For what reason would you like an audience with the Luna Queen?” She asked professionally.
Alina scowled and was about to say something bitchy before clamping her mouth shut, “She didn’t attend the dinner party, I merely want to check up on her wellbeing.” She forced herself to say, a strained smile on her face.
Rosie nodded intently, “How generous of you Princess Alina, unfortunately, Luna Claire is a bit under the weather and will also not be receiving any guests so I’ll have to schedule you for a later date.” She presented with the brightest of smiles.
It was the same story that had been fed to the media. This had to be done because there were a lot of people who had been expecting the Luna Queen to show up to the dinner party that was the talk of the town. So naturally, when she didn't, a big fuss was made about it.
Alina’s eyes widened as a myriad of thoughts crossed her dark eyes - surely it couldn’t be that the human was pregnant with Lukas’ child?!
Rosie could pretty much guess what was going on in the snotty noble’s head but she didn’t try to correct her, letting her make her assumptions and jump to conclusions.
Alina glared at the little annoying assistant but she knew that there was nothing more she could do. “I’ll be back.” She threatened, pointing a finger at Rosie before stomping off to her expensive car.
Rosie’s lips tightened in disapproval, could they really not completely get rid of her? Just because her father was so powerful, no one wanted to get on her bad side.
She made her way back into the mansion after successfully sending off the live bomb that wanted to come in. Knowing that kind of person Alina was, she would want Lukas to buy her silence… It was truly baffling how someone as admirable as Alpha King Costin could be related to her.
Rosie didn’t bother knocking after getting to Alec’s office, she had practically spent all day in it, and she was free to come and go as she wished. She stopped at the door when she found Alec slumped over his desk, her expression softening.
It was already well into the afternoon and with how hectic their night had been, Rosie had been expecting Alec to take a nap already. She quietly walked over to him, wanting to make him comfortable but unsure of how to do so without waking him.
The moment she came within arms reach, he caught her wrist and pulled her down on his legs. Rosie was so stunned by this that she couldn’t protest when Alec easily hoisted her up on him to put her in the perfect position to be his pillow.
Rosie colored up as bright as her hair when Alec tightly wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his head on her breasts, promptly falling asleep again. When she calmed down sufficiently, she found that she rather liked their current positions.
Without Alec’s glasses, she could see how dark his undereye bags were. It made her reflexively push his dark blond hair out of his face to see him better as he slept.
He already looked very handsome and intimidating with his glasses on, when he took it off, Rosie half expected him to look gentler but it only emphasized the hard lines of his face.
She sighed and settled in comfortably, carding her fingers through Alec’s hair as he lightly dozed. She never imagined that she would ever get this far with Alec, much more in the span of mere hours.
She had to admit that she had spent an unhealthy amount of time in the past week just thinking about him, it made her current position a little difficult to believe.
Rosie had dated previously but she had never had anything serious, far too busy with work to give romance and relationships much of her time. But right now, even though she loved her job, she would give it up in a heartbeat if it meant that she would get Alec.
She couldn’t even say when she started to fall for him. When the admiration she felt for him at first slowly started to change to something more. Was it when she had first seen through his facade when he was searching for the Luna Queen? Or was it when he came right to her the moment she got down from Killian’s car? Or was it right now as she was held closely in his arms while he was vulnerable with her?
Rosie couldn’t say for sure but that didn’t hamper how deeply she felt for Alec. It felt like she just fell in love with him and at the same time like she had loved him ever since they first met.
Alec’s brows furrowed, “What are you thinking so hard about?” He interrupted her thoughts, lazily opening his eyes. “Are you uncomfortable?”
Rosie bit her lips and glanced down, flustered by Alec being so close. She just noticed that he always showed more emotion around her. The more time she spent around him, the more she found out that he was less of the cold and clinical man that she initially thought he was and that he was quite warm - at least to her.
“No, I’m comfortable.” She said in a rush before registering her words which made her blush a darker shade of red.
Alec leaned back, all of the sleep gone from his eyes at this sight of her. “I’m not, let’s move this to my bedroom.”
