Chapter Fifty-two
Claire was alerted by Rosie when it was time for lunch, which meant that she would have to meet up with Lukas.
“Thank you, you can also take the rest of the day off.” She informed her assistant, rising to her feet.
Rosie smiled, “Thank you, Luna Claire.”
Claire nodded and made her way out of her office first, she would have to stop by her bedroom to change into something more suitable for an important lunch.
Fortunately, she wasn’t the one required to handle her wardrobe because she was quite sure she couldn't keep up with dressing up for all the events and whatnot that she was required to attend.
Her maids settled on a strapless mini black dress with a complementary slit up a side, it fit Claire like a glove, gorgeous sandal heels completing the outfit.
She couldn’t believe that there was a time when she couldn’t even put on a dress such as this but now it was a daily occurrence for her. Her blonde hair was styled and put up in an elegant chignon bun, diamond drop earrings dangling from her ears.
When she was all set, she stepped out of her bedroom to find the hallway empty. Well, she called it her bedroom but it was actually Lukas’ bedroom.
She wasn’t quite sure where exactly she was supposed to meet up with Lukas so she decided to go find him in her office. Rosie had informed her about the lunch early enough for her to get adequate time to get ready, she would be very irritable if even after all that Lukas still wasn’t ready.
As she started down the hallway, she realized that she had never gone to Lukas’ office before and so had no idea of where exactly it was located on the second floor.
She called a servant to ask for directions, the uniformed maid all too happy to personally take Claire to where she wanted to go.
“Thank you.” She smiled to the maid who bowed prettily and hurried off after dropping her off at the door to Lukas’ office.
Claire straightened her spine and knocked on the door, her bejeweled clutch purse held tightly in her other hand.
There was a heavy silence after she knocked that it made her worry if Lukas was in his office after all. Just when she was about to turn around and try something else, she heard Lukas’ voice from within.
“Who is it?” He asked coldly, making Claire shiver despite herself.
“Forgotten we’re supposed to be having lunch now?” She mustered her courage to call back at him through the closed door.
In a split second the door was flung open, Lukas standing on the other side. “Claire,” He breathed.
Claire felt her throat close up at the way Lukas hungrily eyed her up, she hoped to be able to scold him for forgetting but he was dressed impeccably, there was nothing to nit-pick.
*‘Did he really just sit in his large and lavish office, dressed like a model ready for a photoshoot?’*
Because it was evident that he hadn’t been expecting Claire so there was no way that he could have prepared beforehand.
She finally found her voice after getting caught in Lukas’ stare like a deer in a car’s headlights. “I see you’re all set, can we get going then?” She tried to say in a flippant manner but there was a telltale quiver in her voice that showed just how much Lukas affected her.
“Of course,” Lukas stepped out and offered her his arm.
Claire took it grudgingly, letting him lead the way. She would have protested further but she was a little nervous about the lunch they were to be having to mess with Lukas.
“Where are we having lunch?” Claire asked when they got outside the mansion, Lukas being kind enough to help her down the front stairs as well.
Lukas gritted his teeth, he would have preferred that Claire didn’t accompany him for this lunch but the Emissary had specially requested her presence and unfortunately Lukas couldn’t turn him down.
Emissaries were fixed in werewolf countries as a loud *‘fuck you’* from the Human Government. It was clear that the Emissaries were spies and supervisors all rolled up into one. Almost like the Human Government were blatantly spelling it out that they didn’t trust werewolves.
“Hotel Noir.” He responded in clipped tones, wishing that this was instead just a lunch date between him and his mate.
Rosie had filled Claire in with all she needed to know about the Emissary in question, and how important the Ministry of Human-Were Inter-relations was. But her helpful assistant hadn’t know about the location or what kind of lunch it would be.
She had hoped to get some useful information from Lukas but really, she should have known better.
She let him hold open the car door for her and let her in but afterward, she kept a wide berth between them. She sat at the furthest edge of the seat, keeping her gaze out the window to discourage further conversation.
Lukas seemed to share her views because he immediately became frosty as soon as he sat in his car, busying himself with his phone.
Claire decided to do the same, she wouldn’t be expected to have any knowledge on the running of the country but it would be in her favor if she learned the layout of the hotel they would be having lunch at.
She brought out her phone and did a quick google search, the results were impressive. The hotel had a lot of decent reviews, and it was clearly a favorite among the rich.
Knowing the menu of the afternoon would also really come in handy but she had no idea how to get that herself so she texted the only person she knew that could get it in no time.
Rosie was over the moon to receive a text from her and in less than five minutes already had the answers to all the questions Claire had. *‘How efficacious’.*
