Chapter Eighty-eight
Alec didn't bother trying to separate Claire from Lukas, not even when they got back to the mansion and Lukas was moved to a guest room where medical equipment had already been set up in.
When she slept off still holding onto Lukas's arm, Rosie had come in to clean her up as best as she could, relief in her big almond eyes as she took off the jewellery Claire still wore.
While they were both recuperating, it was up to Alec to clean up the mess left behind. The Viceroy had expected Killian to make a fuss about the scene they had come to meet but the human said nothing, asked no questions and left right after seeing that Claire was fine.
He had to wonder if they had actually gotten the Emissary on their side with Luna Queen Claire’s help.
There were lots of dead bodies at the shed, only a few had survived but not without ghastly injuries. Lukas had clearly been aiming to kill when he took them on.
Well considering the methods the Rogues had used, Alec actually approved of how he had handled it. He just wasn't pleased about how both of the royalty of the country had been put in mortal danger.
Expecially since it was by a handful of clerks and lumberjacks who believed that they were superheroes and all they needed was a title to take down a powerful race.
Lukas' secretaries were working overtime trying to keep the information from the media. It was a rather hot topic seeing as Luna Claire had been unable to attend the highly anticipated dinner party.
It meant that rumors and gossips had already started flying around even before they had been informed of where she had been taken to. If the public were to catch a wisp of what had actually happened, it would be all out chaos.
So Alec found himself running around and making endless calls until the sun was high in the sky the next day. Only then did he realize that he had stayed up all night without getting a wink of sleep.
He made his way to his office, exhaustion settling in layers over him. His mood brightened considerably when he stepped into his office to find Rosie there.
She had changed out of the red number she had worn the night before, her hair gathered into a messy bun. She wore sweatpants and a loose sweater and she single-handedly added a touch of homeliness to his usually cold and clinical office.
She had placed a covered tray on his desk, a sheepish expression in her beautiful face. "I guessed that you were too busy to eat breakfast so I put something together for you..." She trailed off, her voice getting smaller as she spoke.
Alec felt his lips pull up in a gentle smile although he was so exhausted that he could keel over right then. "Thanks," He said nicely, settling behind his desk.
Rosie was seated on one of the chairs placed on the other side of his table, fiddling with her fingers as she watched him eat. Alec thought that she fit perfectly into his space.
"Did you get any sleep?" He found himself asking to filled up the silence.
Rosie pushed a stray wisp of red hair behind her ear, "Not yet, I want to keep an eye on Luna Claire for a while longer." She said earnestly, "Plus I was able to catch up on a bit of sleep last night, I'm more worried about you-" She froze as she said this like she had said more than she intended to.
Alec just shook his head, he wouldn't be getting any sleep anytime soon. He was grateful that Rosie had thought to make him coffee, he would need all the energy he could get.
Granted, Lukas was out of danger because the bullet had passed cleanly through his shoulder, which meant that there was no complications; someone needed to be in charge with Lukas out of it. He was also keeping the Alpha King’s injury out of the media so he absolutely couldn't abandon the helm.
Rosie left shortly after, Alec didn't need to ask because he knew that she was heading to Luna Claire’s side. It would seem that he had made an awesome choice by hiring her, and he wasn't just talking about her loyalty to the Luna Queen.
There was too much going on for them to address the chemistry burning between them but there would be enough time for that later.
Just as he downed the rest of the coffee, the landline on his table started ringing. He had a maid clear his desk and right as she was leaving, one of Lukas' secretaries hurried in.
Alec blew out a breath, wishing that Rosie was still in his office, she brightened up his greyscale office, adding color. He straightened his shoulders however, readying to attend to whatever problem might have cropped up again.

Rosie felt like she should probably be more tired than she felt but being able to help out in her little way was buoying her on. She had felt bad about not being able to do anything for Luna Claire, especially as the Luna Queen had to protect her instead of the other way around.
She hoped that Luna Claire would be up, it was almost noon, she needed the Luna to eat something for strength. Rosie couldn't begin to imagine what Luna Claire had to go through when she was kidnapped, she was one of the bravest humans that Rosie had ever met.
She knocked softly out of habit, although she was well aware that Alpha King Lukas was unconscious and Luna Claire was deeply asleep beside him. She gently opened the door only to be surprised by Luna Claire who was looking up at her.
"Luna Claire! You're awake!" Rosie whispered, feeling like it was wrong to make too much noise.
Claire still seemed out of it as her personal assistant hurried over to her side and knelt beside the bed with tears in her eyes.
"I'm so happy you're alright," Rosie gushed, blinking away unwanted tears.
